  1. Why might white sox be the "goer". Can you see any problems with red sox?

Well DC I said I would not be back till 2011

    However could not wait!

Both new jumpers leave me cold however the look will change when they have numbers and on a human in real life

    (I hope)

but when we win 12 games next year I will not care!

Looked up the other lines on the site and I actually like those a lot more than this year.

There are a number of items there that I would consider buying.

Not a lot of "demons" in the designs!

Not sure what happened to "Bring back the Demon"

  2. Aah, the mysterious Zinko! I acquired an MFC 1963 Souveneir album in my trails a few months back with a bio on each player going into the 1963 season, and he was one that caught my eye, not only because of historical anonymity but also his great name!

Behold (I hope the link works ok!):

    OwenZinko2.jpg

I also remember I looked him up in the demons enyclopaedia of players and he did managed to player at least one game in his time at the club

Thanks DD but we still do not know what position he played!

  3. Great pickup Dave.

Any chance you could scan and post a few more from Album? I'm sure plenty would be interested.

How about the collar on the guernsey. With rpfc's penchant for tradition, I wonder if he would like to see a revival? :)

Oh Please DC lets not go there till at least Jan 2011 arrives!

  4. Agree. Until I saw the list I hadn't either.

    Definitely not a Father/Son pick. :)

    A great name...Owen Zinko

Agree it isnt. But you ask for the No 1 list. Careful there was a Test Cricketer in there.

    1912 William Allan (No. 9, 1913; No. 19, 1914)

    1913 Douglas Chapman

    1914 Des McDonald/Carlyle Kenley (No. 22, 1913)

    1915 Johnny Hassett (No. 34, 1913)

    1919 – 1923 William Allan (see 1912 above)

    1924 – 1931 Stan Wittman

    1944 Ron Kimberley (No. 21, 1939 – 1941)/Jack Compton

    1946 – 1947 Ern Rowarth (No. 33, 1945)

    1998 – 1999 Jamie Shanahan

    2003 – 2005 Chris Heffernan

    2005- 2009 Simon Buckley

It is a close go but I reckon No.1 wins

  5. true true, but this subject is more subjective than others

haha, never said what i actually got, old dee

P.S. In my day jumpers were supplied by the club (generally) so choice of numbers also came down to what was available in your size (S,M,L, XL etc) or close to.

You are correct I had forgotten that problem.

Always fanced 31 ( wonder why) but it was a small, tried to get into it a couple of times.

    What a joke!

Settled for 32, closest I could get?

  6. So, different numbers mean different things to different players and different supporters.

    No surprises there really.

Me personally, I always coveted a low number (being a show pony)

I like to see the better players in lower numbers generally, but don't really give a rats clacker

and whatever we say will have no bearing on the club/players re numbers

But then DC if we took that attitude there would be nothing on Demonland.

You were obviously a lot better than me I was just happy to get a number!

  7. Correct. And for all you precious types regarding who is eligible for the coveted and highly regarded No7, here is the past 50 years of No7 wearers:

    1963 – 1964 Owen Zinko

    1966 – 1975 Graham Osborne (No. 24, 1976 – 1977)

    1976 Ray Smith (No. 43, 1975)

    1977 – 1979 Barry Denny

    1980 – 1981 Phil Pinnell

    1982 – 1990 Brian Wilson

    1991 Rod Owen

    1992 – 1999 Darren Kowal

    2000 - 2002 Stephen Powell

    2003 Gary Moorcroft

    2004 - 2010 Brad Miller (No. 37, 2002 – 2003)

Aside for Brian Wilson and Stephen Powell, the No 7 jumper has not done alot. And you cant tell me that Darren Kowal and Gary Moorcroft were deserving the No 7 jumper more than Bennell.

We are really sweating the small stuff here kiddies.

And BTW I wont hear of a bad word against Owen Zinko either! :)

Now Rhino this is much more interesting than if Bennell gets no. 7

I was around in 63/64 and I have no memory of him.

Do you know where he played?

Does anyone know who he was?

  8. I promised myself I was not coming back to this theme for the rest of 2010.

However has anyone seen the preview of the NB range of gear?

    Not a DEMON in sight.

I thought we were bringing back the Demon!

    Or Have I missed something?

  9. old dee, it was always going to be white, at least for the short/medium term. I am a realist underneath

I thought there were plenty of positives though

    1. Navy shorts (maybe). This has a big impact on % of white

    2. Reduced number of clash definitions (maybe) working towards none

    3. No cartoon like graphics

I would consider these significant "wins", but then I'm a glass half-full kinda guy

I wonder if my email prompted the response

It was good to get such a comprehensive explanation of the club's thinking. For a long time we have laboured over a lack of detail both from the AFL and the club, so we have had to speculate on a lot of issues. At least now we have a better framework for future discussions.

I look forward to the release of our new clash jumper. Then might be a good time for further robust discussion, eh.

Thanks Daisycutter I think I always knew that.

    Agree with you on above.

I hope this is my last comment on this theme.

Lets get on with winning our next flag

    Go Dees

  10. I reject most of that. I'm sorry.

The 'reverse uniform' is a bastardisation of our guernsey and it wouldn't alleviate all clashes and therefore we would need a second bastardisation - most likely white.

Let's get the one white guernsey, wear it fleetingly, and finish top so we don't have to wear it in finals.

You have my vote especially that last bit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Did you support the boards decision when they decided to go silver?

Not disagreeing with your sentiments, Deezman but you should always keep a little in reserve

Yes Cam's communication was great, appreciated, comprehensive and to the point. No spin there.

I thought everyone (no matter what side of the fence) could take some positives from it

And its nice to think us bigoted keyboard heroes have a voice no matter how small

Its a great club to feel part of

Well Daisycutter got up this morning to find all this.

    Discussion over it would seem.

    Looks like white again boys.

Just crawl back into my hole and worry about our cricket team.

    Carn the Dees!

  12. Have to go back a long long time,,, but here it is.

Based on Father & Son both having successful careers for the Dees.

    1: Bob C. Johnson 1926-1933 Games Played = 113

Bob 'Big Bob' Johnson 1954-1961 GP = 140

    Total Combined Games = 253

    2: Adrian Dullard 1940-1949 GP = 116

    Tony Dullard 1973-1981 GP = 108

    Total Combined Games = 224

    3: Richie Emselle 1937-1943 GP = 92

    Ken Emselle 1962-1969 GP = 97

    Total Combined Games = 189

I didnt include Barassi Snr and RD

only because RD played over 200 just by himself

IRon Snr had his career cut short (only played 58 games)

Thanks Deevoted, shows what I though not many and a long time between drinks.

Not one in the last 29 years!

  13. Shafted at this point but we are growing, this Fiasco will not be with us forever. I feel it is the AFL flexing its muscles while we are still on the drip feed.

Looking at Carlton's abomination it is evident the AFL have changed the rules again as they always do.. Why were we forced to wear a clash strip against st.kilda in the season just gone?? That's the logic we must eradicate in time.

I think "their" logic was Saints have a black back and we have a mainly dark blue back!

  14. Good News, looks like we might get a good one here.

If he turns into a good player it will be an unusual event.

Can anyone tell me the last time a father and son combination at Melbourne

    Produced a good result?

The last one I can remember was "Spud Dullard" back in the early eighties I think.

Spud was no champion but a useful player.

Over the years the Dees have not had too many "sons" play.

  15. That pale blue looks like a chlorinated pool. Awful. So that is what carlton will look like when we play them is it??

Gee thanks AFL that has zero style (even for that disgusting club Carlton) do not ever tell me that i mix up carlton & Melbourne Jumpers. Indeed!! (walk off in a huff 60's Dr Smith Style!!!!) B)

There you go Nasher-That's my summation of that putrid jumper. And yes white sucks too. My rage has not diluted!!! B)

Amazing is it not. A club that has Blue and white as its colours has no white in the new jumper!

They also have blue shorts, but the Dees are not allowed red shorts.

    And approved by the AFL.

Am I being paranoid or are we getting shafted?

  16. clever rpfc. You cropped the start of the para and took it out of context

    here is the original para

meaning "predominately white" is down the very bottom of my list. But you knew that, you 'ol stirrer you. :)

and last I knew fucshia could be considered a shade of red - the mfc used to think so

Hi Daisycutter you must be close to typing off your finger tips this afternoon!

Before you do can you tell me which clubs we are supposed to clash with?

My normal contact at MFC is not available today and the AFL refused to discuss the matter, refered me back to the MFC.

The comment was "this is a matter for the MFC"

Make of that what you will!

  17. Yep.

So what's changed in the last 5 months re Carlton? Why does ~1/3 of the comp play by different rules?

Hi Trident re above in a seperate comment I said it was a case of power!

Some clubs have a lot e.g. Collingwood and other have little e.g. Melbourne.

I have not fought the mainly white jumper because it appeared to me that it was the decree from the AFl and in the next few years all the obstainers would be into line.

However the game has changed with the new Carlton strip.

If ever a club should have a white clash jumper it is Carton after all their colours are Blue and White.

I heard the Carlton CEO on the radio this morning saying they were a little tired of the white clash jumper

so came up with light blue, this was approved by the AFL because the teams they clash with

are said by the AFL to be Collingwood, Essendon, Richmond and Melborne ( From Memory )

So a light blue does not clash with those teams.

The main message I got was Carlton only need a clash jumper that was different the the teams they clash with.

On that basis the Dees need to work out who the AFL says we clash with and design a jumper around those teams.

The AFL's decree of Mainly White no longer holds water.

However nothing will change unless we all [censored] a lot.

Write to the AFL and Melbourne, nothing will work better than if both groups have 20,000 pieces of paper in their hands.

My two letters are going off as soon as I work out which are the teams were the AFL thinks there is a clash

  18. Quite possibly. There is nothing in concrete at all and we all know that and thats for the main why there is no obvious answer. My words were somewhat directed to any whos thinking is that Watts CANT play the square.

A goodly type... tall athletic menacing with a decent leap might well provide fodder for a switchhit role. He is young but i sense the club wont be closetting him for that long.

we now have a very decent grab bag of forwards. Be very interesting to see how ( npi) it all pans out :)

Leaving my prejudice aside it seems to me that the brains trust at the Dees do not see Watts as a full forward.

From memory I do not remember seeing him play that role for more than small portions of a game.

The fact that they have tried to recruit Hale and now Drafted two full forward types makes me think

That Watts is not a full forward!

At the very least Bailey and company do not seem to think he is one!

  19. What good is a windmill if you can't have the odd tilt?

Keep smiling old dee :) from another oldie

Hi Daisycutter, after seeing todays HUN I need to get a lance!

I am joining all the Don's on Demonland.

If Carlton can have light blue why do we have to have white.

It is time for every Melbourne supporter to write to the AFL.

    Deluge them with complaints.

    I am angry!
