Nasher I was not expecting much better in 2008. This year I thought that we were improving but thursday's game tells me that in spite of all the changes and hype we have come very little distance since 2008. The balance of 2011 looks like "another Melbourne Year" to me. Lots of hype and expectation and a few wins with the chance of finals football gone by the end of may. Sorry to be so negative but we have seen it too many time in the past. History has a habit of repeating itself at the MFC

I saw it not a good look. Just seemed way out of his depth to me. Not going well as a player or captain this year. I think he is very lucky to be the captain, if not he might be on the way to Casey. Friday morning I was talking to a friend who said to me. "You know that you are over rating a large number of your players at Melbourne. they are nowhere near as good as you think" My god he might just be right, after some soul searching I have concluded that of our mature group none of them are game breakers. The likes of Green, Bartram, Sylvia , Rivers, Moloney, jones, Davey, Dunn and Bate are average players who occasionaly have a day out. None of them can be relyed on week in week out to beat their opponents. My friend may well be right. If he is it accounts for why we struggle to get close to anyone above the bottom 5-6 teams. I think our playing group is just outcalssed by most teams.

RB I am just about over Bennel, doubt he has it. Does not like it close and tough. Still remember first Pies game last year when he was in a position to seal the game and pull out of collison. He gets scared and vanishes in games like last thursday. A down hill skier for mine. no more chances off to Casey

Not if he is a no.1 pick then we will play him every week because you have to games into them you know. Having said that he was one of the few that deserves a game next weekend IMO

It does look bleak RobbieF, I looked at the fixture today and based on the last 8 weeks form I struggled to find another win to your list. Maybe one of the Richmond games. That would make 6.5 wins on that basis quite a few in the FD would be looking for new jobs I would suggest. So after four years of the much vaunted rebuild we would have risen to the heights of the bottom four. Not sure were we finished in 2007 but was in that group from memory.

He played well today and deserves a spot before Morton, Dunn, Wona, bennel,and even our Captain at the minute. That will not happen of course. By the way that was a massive step forward on thursday for the incumbants.

No And the hawks play tough not many choir boys in that lot. Clarkson was no champion at Melbourne but he was one of the few over the years that was tough and hard at it. Thats what he demands at Hawthorn I think he won a flag in his fourth year, makes DB look a little ordinary

Watched the game today and basically agree with Maldon Boy. Four MFC players stood out. Maric had a good day and kicked a couple, second half better than the first. Not sure if he is good enough at AFL level. However he sure deserves a game next weekend and he is a good kick, a few beauties today. Bate Killed them all day and ended with 6 and set up a few more, one of his kicks in traffic was a beauty low bullet pass that hit the intended smack on the money. Should be in next weekend after the crap dished up on thursday. Warnock killed them he was IMO the general in the back line. After being emergency the last 3 weeks he deserves a game. Pettard had a good game, not brillant but again we should be able to find him a spot. I find it hard to believe he would be worse than 10 others last thursday. Who do they replace. Maric for Bennel or Wona Bate for Morton Warnock for Frawley, Frawley needs a run at Casey to get his timing back he missed all the pre season. Pettard as the Sub again. PS from what I saw today Blease is a long way off selection. I know he had a very bad injury but is showing little to justify his high draft pick at this point.

A worse situation is they might move to Hawthorn, Collingwood, Geelong or even GWS. How much further back would they be than at the Dees

Dee-luded last year they were well behind us. Now they are 1.5 years ahead? Bailey selected a list full of kids, my complaint is a few more mature bodies e.g. Darling would be a big help while the skinny ones develop. I think our Skinny Kids only drafting policy will hurt us for years. A lot of them may never develop properly or move to teams with more on field support.
