In the next three rounds PA vs Cats, WC vs Tigers, Cats vs Bulldogs, Lions vs Cats, PA vs Swans and WC vs Bulldogs. Big three rounds for us with winnable games and chasers doing it tough.
-
Bye time is always a danger period as things tend to reset for clubs. Easy for good clubs to rest on their laurels and poor clubs to try to atone for poor starts.

Saints Membrey and Ross to leave hub for personal reasons. I guess no big deal for the Saints as their season is already kaput. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/saints-leaders-head-home-for-personal-reasons-20210607-p57ypf.html

Shows how injury can derail a season. Losing Fyfe, Darcy and Cox with bad injuries within five minutes is like us losing Gawn, Petracca and May. Shocking bad luck for Freo. They were taking the game up to the bulldogs before then.
-
If Freo butchered the ball 50% less going inside 50 they would be in the 8 easily.

Andrews career averages for contested marks is 1.34 a game . He took 14 marks when his average is just over 5 a game. He did very well.

Like the old soccer term Catenaccio for team defence. We seem to have translated this to AFL. Our defence chains up the opposition forward line. Our defence is like that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catenaccio

Rating 2021 team Against 1998, 2000 & 2018
John Crow Batty replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
I believe our 1990 team followed by the 1998 team were the best flag chances aside from this season. We just stuffed it up bad in the finals. That’s when we will be judged if the real deal or not. -
Today’s The Age headline. “Tigers reinforce premiership credentials against valiant Bombers“. and this.. “The Tigers have now won successive matches for the first time since round two and 11 straight against the Bombers, erasing any doubts about their premiership credentials in a season where they have struggled to find a groove.” Doesn’t take much for the media Richmond bandwagon to revive. Beat fickle Adelaide and callow Essendon and they are favourites again. And this is called journalism.
-
Back on the Tigers bandwagon, they are now invincible.

As long as we keep on winning it looks like we will carry him. Does good competitive things but can’t kick goals outside his comfort zone of -30 metres out directly in front. Clear that problem up and making most of his limited opportunities he could be a regular 40+ goal kicker a season.
-
I reckon a fine. Surprised how big and strong he looks. The making of a future beast. He ain’t no wee tweety bird.

Shame two Friday night blockbusters in a row played under virus restrictions. But I will be satisfied with another win. That’s all that counts.

WELCOME BACK TO DEMONLAND: TAYLA HARRIS
John Crow Batty replied to Demonland's topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
I understand her form at Carlton was poor this season and she wanted $150,000 a season to continue. Maybe good for marketing but she has to deliver on the field. -
Well it was good response by our captain after his poor effort against the Crows. Well deserved.

What they're saying down at Barkly Street
John Crow Batty replied to Queanbeyan Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
I heard this; They Chopin-ed us to pieces on the Turandot’s and Beethoven-ed the La Mer-de out of us. Enough to make me Puccini all over the floor. Nessun Dorma tonight. -
New Demonland whipping boy. I can expect this thread revived after every average game he plays.
-
Stats don’t lie. He is the leading goal kicking medium forward so far this season. All those above him are key forwards with small forward McDonald-Tipungwudi above him.
-
Just like Luke Bruest. Not many rated him highly and still don’t even after 400 goals. Medium size forwards are always underrated. He will never be a power forward. He did kick 6 when north were all over us though for much of the game. He is a clever strong mark and gets himself into the weak spots of defences.

POSTGAME: Rd 11 vs Western Bulldogs
John Crow Batty replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
We have beaten all the current top ten sides we have played. That 6-0. -
He still played on after this and was on the wing at the next centre bounce. Could have been delayed reaction. And he looked flat after that in his movements and went off after the Bruce goal. Brayshaw took his wing. Involved in one play down back where nothing much happened before that.

POSTGAME: Rd 11 vs Western Bulldogs
John Crow Batty replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Great result. Reminded me of the Geelong game where we basically made them pick their way through a mine field and choked their high powered forward line. We were so clinically efficient that it looked somewhat boring. No bells and whistles but fantastic team synergy. Really hard to pick the best players. Good to see Spargo get more of the ball, something good nearly always happens.
