  1. Carlton used to have a lot of brown paper bags. Maybe they found a few left over ones tucked away in the property room?
  2. One photo here shows bad optics and gross misconduct, the other shows nothing to see.
  3. The official Christian explanation is that The West Coast player actually had his arm behind the Melbourne players neck. He sees what he wants.
  4. If the GF can’t be played in Melbourne without crowds then Optus in Perth would be great. Aside from a selfish POV, it is a great stadium worthy of a GF. Has great atmosphere, state of the art facilities and the playing surface is identical to the MCG. I would only consider attending if we are playing in it.
  5. Margetts was one of the 2015 prelim final umpires where WC beat North. WC 24 frees and North 18. Josh Kennedy got 6 free kicks. I wonder who paid them?
  6. I admit though he is now more likeable after drawing all the WC fan hate. Like I detest cockroaches but the sad song La Cucaracha makes them kind of likeable for a few minutes.
  7. 12 finals but no GF in 376 games indicates the AFL might not have wanted him around much at the business end of seasons
  8. Next honour will be Life Membership for Margetts at WC.
  9. The main reason I become a Melbourne supporter was because I lived in Collingwood then East Melbourne. I used to cop heaps from the local kids and got into fights just about every other week. I went out of the way to support their greatest football enemy as well as Ron Barassi playing for them.
  10. One could also add the treatment to the regular woman on the show. Jacki McDonald used to cop the worst crudest sexist schoolyard jibes as well as many other women who dared appear on the show.

  12. If you are referring to the 70’s, it was still bad but not as bad as in the 1960’s and 50’s. Working class areas were extremely hostile to migrants in particular. People were becoming somewhat more aware and enlightened in the 70’s. One vivid incident I recall was my mum walking me home from school when I was 7 years old and a drunken Aussie fresh out of the pub punched me on the nose for no good reason as he staggered by. Gave me a blood nose. All he said was “effing dagos”. I saw a Chinese guy beaten up on a tram unprovoked. My dad several times came home bloodied with torn clothes. Respectable looking people in shops were not afraid to loudly air racist opinions. Not just school yard stuff.
  13. On the bus back from the game, there were quite a few Melbourne supporters and we all sang the team song. Of course we were loud but good natured. I was sitting near the front when two older WC women supporters got off. They said to the bus driver “ just to let you know, there are aggressive people back there, keep an eye on them”.
  14. I was surprised by the loud booing for the umpires as well given the armchair ride they had with iffy decisions. My favourite moment was at the start of the second quarter when Darling got that soft free and a goal for a non existent push in the back. A WC fan next to me agreed the free was not there but was payback for all the frees we got in the first quarter. I checked and the frees were 6-3 in their favour in the first quarter.
  15. We should be given an extra 4 points for beating the umpires. In a bus full of dees supporters going home singing GOF.
  16. Disgraceful effort by Freo. Stuffing up their finals chances again and boosting Essendon’s….Ugh!
  17. Who would have thought a Collingwood Hawthorn game would be such a meaningless yawn fest. Have to go back at least to the WWII years to match the irrelevance of it all for these two.
  18. Jake Lever thinks it’s a great idea.
  19. The Green/Dangerfield incident is almost identical to the Fritsch incident without the damage. Player going low for the ball, tackler coming in hard and low at same time. Both were reaction incidents. To me Green should get off as incident appears accidental and unavoidable. Selwood on the other hand exhibited a classic run past the ball, chose to bump a player bending down for the ball and hit him squarely on the side of head. This is the kind of premeditated incident that has caused numerous concussions and the AFL have punished severely to stop them happening. In this case he should rightfully be suspended. He did everything wrong expect hurt Taylor but as well included the bad “optics” that sunk Viney for 2 weeks. Selwood deserves the same. For the sake of the integrity of the rules Selwood should not get away with it because he didn’t cause serious damage.
  20. Interesting stat. Geelong have only won 4 games against top 8 sides including the umpire robbery by 1 point against Brisbane and a lucky 5 points against Bulldogs. Their resume is well padded by beating easy beats in a dream draw and a dream home ground advantage. 4 out of 5 losses are against current top 8 sides.
  21. Toby Green, the perfect definition of a flawed genius.
  22. It’s easy to whack a miscreant player biggly if his team is out of finals contention. Imagine the hoops the AFL would have leaped through to minimise his punishment if he played for Geelong or Bulldogs.

  24. Got my second dose of AZ on Monday. Feeling a little wonky for a couple of days but fine today. I urge everyone not to waste time if you haven’t got one already. Get in quickly.
