Glen Bartlett the new MFC President? (It would seem not yet)
John Crow Batty replied to cooko's topic in Melbourne Demons
Perhaps it's about time something like this happened. Or would you prefer someone old school establishment to continue the tradition? -
Craig has coached himself out of contention

Starting to think the same way but not entirely given up on him. Set in his ways and old school. Seems to lack new ideas to take into the future. -

Who cares as long as he is competant professional. -
Well I am quite positive about that. This club has been turned on its head this season and thankfully so. A new board, admin and coach plus AFL support may make us the next new big thing in the near future. There is a postive buzz and good things are starting to happen. This season is already in the past.

Luke Ball made himself unavaliable, went overseas, did not answer calls from us and would have refused any orher contacts with the club. If we drafted him he would have sat the next season out or been one very [censored] off bastard just like........Moloney. He was Collingwood or nobodys. People at the club knew that. It was a done deal and no one else seriously considered drafting him. End of story.

I hope not, he was pure fiction. -

Good luck Glen. Played 4 games with West Coast. Like the 4 games Brian Cook played for us and now successful CEO at Geelong. Perhaps a good omen. No more old boys baggage. -
Craig has coached himself out of contention
John Crow Batty replied to The Yarra's topic in Melbourne Demons
I thoroughly disagree we have a [censored] poor list. We have some good defenders, forwards and talls. The mids are currently pathetic. Like a chronic lower back problem there. Cuts the body in half and unable to function. Aside from fixing this problem there is the need to get rid of the lack of focus, direction and the almighty inferiority complex. Not going happen on the dregs of the remaining season. -

If he is interested in the full time job, it is starting to look like he is painting himself into a corner. I thought the game plan on the weekend was a little too ambitious and convoluted for a low performing team with no midfield at the tail end of a disastorus season. Should have stuck more to baiscs and kept it simple. It will be hard to live down such a huge loss. However he has time for some restitution. The team will have to play above themselves for the rest of the season and also snag a couple of wins. Perhaps selling himself too hard too early. He should have sprayed himself rather than the players at quarter time. -
The quite admirable performances of the Essendon players have given Hird sustenance to change the game plan from accepting responsibility to fight it out to save his skin.. They will be a key factor to how quick or long this will take to resolve. If performances tail off I predict he will go quickly. If they continue to perform for Hird it will be a bitter long struggle.

So he had nothing to say about Golden Boys future?
-
Don't wrory about that. There are threads adnauseum on our problems. This is good therapy for the downtrodden. This is a free country. You dont have to read this thread.
-
I cant believe how selfish Hird is starting to appear. From a neutral unbiased POV he appears to be selling his players down the river for lengthy suspensions in order to save his own skin. Turning on AD and the AFL who it appears were trying to minimise the impact on the club because it may cause his own demise. His inability to take responsibility for his own actions after he said he would. Allowing loyal servants of the club to take the rap whilst pathetically proclaiming his innocence and making legal threats to all and sundry. And also the unseemly stab in the back he did to Knights previously. He may go down as one of the slickest slimiest snake oil merchants of all time once all his schtick is exposed.

And it was the very first and last inside 50 for the quater. Bar the 2 minutes of play for the entire quarter we never had a sniff.

With our abysmal record of first round draft picks I believe we could do much better by trading them all for seasoned midfield players ready to go. We have no more time left to develop juniors with the starvation rations currently delivered by our midfileld. We have tallent in the back/forward/ruck well on their way.

Neither a fit Clark or Hogan would rate with our current midfield. They will have to raffle the meagre inside fifties amongst ithemselves.

Could this mean that the players may now turn against Hird and that maybe some Neeld like performances are on the card?
-
it was reported that he wasn't happy with the alleged doping that was going on.

Didn't you know? He had his fingers and legs crossed when he said it.

Thaks for pointing that out. I missed that moment.

This was loss of a magnitude I did not see coming after some good improvement under Craig. Whether this is a blip or not time will tell. Brad Scott said they will be trying to improve their defensive game and it appears they used us as guinea pigs to try out their new tricks. Once again big tactical errors were made by us that compounded by the problem of our weak midfield. Always one step behind the oposition in thinking. As if we were playing the defensively fickle North of the recent past. Moving the ball backwards as the first, second, third options strangled us. In fact our first goal of the second qtr was created by MacDonald looking back then switching the ball. forward and no doubt against team rules. The only time we split their mids and defence open for the game. The players could see it was not working, lost confidence and played accordingly. This was a Neeld like performance. The second big tactical blunder made by Craig at the helm. But this time the weather is no excuse.

If Grant Thomas says the coach has lost the players before his first game again then no need to procrastinate until the the coaches first loss.

Round 14 Geelong 11.19 Fremantle 7.2 Round 16 Geelong 13.20 Melbourne 4.6 Similar scoring scenario. 3 to 1 against scoring shots. Even Freo got toweled up there recently and no one can deny they are a top side. They also did not have to play in bucketing rain like us. Ross Lyon must be dud coach. Some very hollow arguments by Craig detractors. Our only 10 goal loss under him in the most challenging conditions. Whilst there have been eight 10 goal plus losses under Neeld this season.
