Sons of the West - weak effort.
John Crow Batty replied to Bitter but optimistic's topic in Melbourne Demons
I guess the club is not used to success and post succcess etiquette. No big deal and a yawn. -
I think we would have better luck with newer migrants and arrivals who will identify with the greater city of Melbourne rather than Caroline Springs etc where they might live. Not many will identify with or live in traditional club suburbs. The realestate is just too expensive.

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
John Crow Batty replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
5 year and longer plans only buy time when there is NFI. -
The tired excuse for our last two rounds is the most lame I have ever heard. That was only a diplomatic excuse from Roos. The real unsaid reasons will have been somewhat more scathing. Most of our wins were front running junkets and we only won one hard fought game and that was in round one. We had many soft losses where we folded meekly when early pressure was applied.

Lockett 1360 goals. 0 flags. Typical of 'me me' forwards that carry on as if their club revolves around them. -

Lets hope soon and not before St Kilda get theirs. -
Great to see the Bulldogs seize their opportunity without dithering and obsessing with slow burn plans that only start showing progress after a long time if ever. As far as I am concerned our list is just as good or better than theirs on paper. We did improve but as with the past two seasons we could and should have done a little bit more to put us on the cusp of a finals spot this season at the least. No doubt if we finish 9th or 10th next season there will be the same cheerleaders getting all wet and excited. If anything I feel let down by us our last two games which dampened down what was to be the begining of our seize the moment opportunity and the pathetic way the players saw out Roos's tenure. I hope to hell the players do not show that kind of disrespect to Goodwin.

Seven year plan? That's nuts. I hope he hasn't brought that idea over with him. -

If he does sign a big deal for us will he will change his attitude, chase, tackle and improve his kicking? That I'm not convinced. -

Started ticking last week. He should ask for a pay rise. -
Played just as I predicted. Congratulations Bulldogs.

I predict a close low scoring game much like last saturday at Sydney. I will give it just to the Bulldogs. They have beaten 3 sides against all expectations with the same formula whilst Sydney look vulnerable against pressure. They were lucky they had Geelong last week who were exposed as soft track bullies.

You are asking for a lot of flak saying these kind of heresies here. Amazing is it. The Bulldogs have a tremendous upheaval, coach sacked, senior players jumping ship in 2014, their list condemned as shyte, tipped for the 2015 wooden spoon and injury upon injury. Now look at them. While us going through a meticulous rebuild with some supposedly great draft picks and showing some modest improvement but none of the spirit and fight of the dogs. If he goes I think we will be in a better place. Pandering to Prima Donna's with crap body language who play hard to get can only lead to grief. -
After Grimes hurt his foot and missed most of 2011 he was never the same player. His development was stalled and frustrating to watch afterwards.

What's in between them might be more important. -
Mutton dressed as lamb IMO

Shame there is so much salary cap being wasted. Players like Dunn, Grimes, Trengove and Garland who once were far better players and now should be at their peak as experienced players are now playing halfarsed football at the second level. Trengove has an excuse but if he is getting anywhere it is still painfully slow. Their lethergy has also rubbed off on many of the next group of players coming up and even on regular senior players. Any C grade player would love to come to us just for the big boost in pay.

Should the AFL lead on Social Issues
John Crow Batty replied to Diamond_Jim's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well I hope not, but there are nutters everywhere. In Central, South America football politics have always been only one or or two degrees less violent than civil war for the most. If posters acted like they talk on forums in real life things might be just as crazy. -
Should the AFL lead on Social Issues
John Crow Batty replied to Diamond_Jim's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not exactly a label. Just what I call myself. I had a long past ancestor who played and coached for them. One of the most successful and colourful clubs in the Colombian league with a history that in some ways loosely mirrors ours. They call themselves the Red Devils and briefly wore our colours in the past. Currently languishing in the second division. They have won 13 titles and were once rated the second best soccer team in the world. They were denied a chance to win the 1989 title when the referee from the first leg of the title deciders against Nacional Medellin then controlled by drug baron Pablo Escobar was murdered for perceived favouritism to ADC. The title was then cancelled for the year. Later ADC was controlled by the drug barons Rodriguez brothers and the club was put on the Clinton List for being linked to the drug trade and had its international funds frozen, made a pariah and eventually forced to near bankruptcy. That's what happens when the wrong people run sporting clubs. Will eventually get sorted out and be great again.
