  1. Yes dc, more appropriate. Scrooge McTote.
  2. Maybe it's the new year/Xmas spirit, but those are extremely generous odds for GWS.
  3. Troy, like the hundreds of thousands of others to die in that disaster is of course, sorely missed - as supporters we should never forget Troy, but as people, we should never forget the enormity of this and other natural disasters; we should always be ready to offer whatever help we can. It was heartening to see that one child who it was thought had perished, was the other day, reunited with her family... almost 7 years to the day after the event.
  4. Yes, it's always going to be better because it is no longer just a memory. On top of that, a premiership now is a much greater achievement considering the number of teams playing, the travel involved and the pace at which the modern game is played resulting in a high rate of attrition... it really is survival of the fittest.
  5. Maybe we have found our Chinese sponsor for the front of jumper?
  6. It's a typical low budget affair that is nothing more than a bit of fun for all involved. Just be thankful that it didn't involve the coaching staff doing a flash mob... now THAT is a trend I do find disturbing.
  7. I became a supporter in 1956 (or so my parents told me) and once I got a jumper, also sported the number 31, despite the fact my real hero was Hassa Mann. My other favorite back then was Brian Dixon, but I think that was because he was, like myself, a Croydon boy.
  8. Do it on the Queens Birthday weekend and I would be happy to turn up... I used to live not too far away from there in Field Street (just off Alma Rd near the corner of Glenhuntly Rd).
  9. Yes, Davey doesn't need to kick goals in my opinion. If he can use his pace to break away from his opponent on the lead to the 50, he will be able to gather and use his deadly accurate short kicks to hit a leading forward close to goal. Any time is going to have trouble trying to cover a forward line that has Davey's short burst pace and accurate short kicking ability, as well as Howe, Jurrah, Watts, Green and Clark. I just hope our midfield is up for it.
  10. The lyrics to "Young Girl" raised a bit of a ruckus if my memory serves - from Wikipedia: "Controversial at the time and later for its risque lyrical references to underage romance. Allmusic labeled the groups lyrics "bizarrely pedophilic."
  11. and controversial... maybe that's why he disappeared?
  12. Reality check... as good as it would be to see Davey playing the crumbing forward role, let's not forget the OP is from a "close cource" (unnamed) and as such essentially a rumour until we see him line up in the forwards or hear it from Neeld himself. Would be nice though, if true :-)
  13. The early to mid 60's were obviously among the better years but the memories have somewhat faded over time and then there was 2000 when Green and Bruce were firing and we made the GF (although that wasn't such a good memory) But really, in some ways this year is one that I regard as one of our best... it has been a disaster in terms of performance during the season, but it has also been a year where change was forced and for the first time in my memory, the club has made significant changes that will affect the entire culture. I cannot recall ever feeling so positive about the direction in which the club is now heading - I'm sure I've said that before, but this time I really mean it ;-)
  14. As I said to faceplant above, point taken.
  15. I'm sure they would have looked as closely as possible as well as met him and discussed the possibility of his being drafted, with him. What more could they do FCS? At the time, they made what was considered the right decision and we were all pretty excited about his being drafted. You seem to be basing your "mistake" assertion on an opinion you formed AFTER the drafting - the wonderful thing with hindsight is that it's always 20/20.
  16. Knowing what we now know, yes... but at the time, he was not a mistake but was the obvious choice. Imagine the outcry if we hadn't taken him in that draft.
  17. I would hope so too (was just a thought)...
  18. If Gawn's injury is season threatening, I would think they might want to take the chance on Mitch...sorry, Williams so that Clark is freed up for ruck duties when required.
  19. The guy was raised in Australia to parents from Taiwan and Eastern Timor... how does that make him a selling point for games in China? Simply because he is of Asian appearance? Hmmmm. If someone raised in China by parents who were from New Zealand and Sweden was recruited to play major league ping pong or badminton in China (among their most popular sports), would that suddenly mean a surge in interest in ping pong or badminton here in Australia simply because NZ is part of Australasia and because he is of Western appearance?
  20. I think we would definitely still have drafted Watts because it was clear from the beginning that he had to potential to be a star... just as he is now starting to reveal. Yes, we quite possibly could have (and some might argue, should have) kept Junior. Scully would have been drafted as he and Trengove were streets ahead of the rest; and WYL, to say that Scully was a mistake is nonsense... no-one had any idea what would unfold there and at the time he was the obvious 1 or 2 choice. As R&BB said, hindsight is a wonderful thing. We got Tapscott, so which pick was used is neither here nor there. Possibly they might have gone with Darling over Cook (why am I thinking of Black Adder at this point?). The other one I think may have been overlooked at draft time purely for reasons of physique, might have been the Gys.. but no idea who would have been picked up in his place. Bailey had the unenviable task of essentially trying to rebuild the list from the ground up... overall, his legacy has been the makings of a team that WILL amount to something. And we should never forget the sacrifices (ethical and personal) that he made in order to achieve that; no matter what we might think of his coaching abilities, he put his own career on the line to help set our club up for a better future.
  21. Read what I said again... i think you will find the word "only" is not in that post - and I can assure you it wasn't even inferred.
  22. In a worst case scenario, I suppose this may be Spencil's chance to do a "Martin" and step up.
  23. Green and Davey spring to mind,
