  1. Yes, it's the opposite of "flattered" (on the rest of your comments, I agree)
  2. Hey OD, I have no problem with it... I like a good robust discussion as long as it doesn't get abusive, which this hasn't ;-) But yes, I do look forward to the footy... which actually starts tonight by the way; a game I am interested in purely because I want to see just where both of those teams now sit... I want them both to fail, but unfortunately one will have to prevail.
  3. DC... I was responding to Robbie's comments and in particular the line "swallowing something that could potentially ruin their lives". This discussion is NOT about a particular drug (yes he was busted with speed, but speed is not central to the discussion), it is about a couple of things... one being Benny's problem and whether or not compassion is appropriate, and the other is the issue of addiction in general. Mine was a valid response as, whether you accept it or not, alchohol when abused IS a drug of addiction and when swallowed too often or in too large quantities, like any drug, can ruin lives - and as it is freely available, it has far wider reaching consequences. I think Nutbean is correct in his perceptions, but that is one thing that makes alchohol worse in some ways... despite the fact that the dangers of both illegal drugs and alchohol are taught in schools from a very early age, there is still this perception that alchohol is not dangerous... I enjoy a drink, but I would love to see advertising abolished in much the same way as advertisements for tobacco products were removed as I think that is part of the problem. And DemonWA argues correctly that drugs are against the law and so society should make more of a big deal about them... well, so is alchohol consumption by minors, yet parents will often encourage the behaviour by giving their children a "taste" of beer and advertisers will make it look "cool" to carry on like an idiot while drinking. And when it comes to broken homes, I can guarantee you that alchohol is probably a much bigger factor than illegal drug addiction will ever be. Anyway, that is my take on things and my argument was not intended to be a "tu quoque" argument - maybe you just wanted to throw that in there? I know I'd want to if I had that word hanging around in my head ;-)
  4. And I could point you to many social drug users who lead perfectly normal lives and do not have the problems that the likes of Ben Cousins experience... the risks with many social drugs are no different to those of alchohol... it is just a matter of knowing when to stop. That comment of mine you are responding to was not directly related to Ben Cousins, it was a reference to people who denounce drug use while using drugs themselves.
  5. I don't disagree with that... but are you telling me that every person who used a drug or drunk a glass of alchohol, made such a choice believing that they could end up addicted with their lives in ruin (and despite the fact that it is legal, alchohol does ruin more lives than any other drug, both directly and indirectly. Some people know when to stop and are physically/mentally capable of doing so... unfortunately there are others who don't realise they don't have that capacity until they have passed the point of no return.
  6. Good, so at least you are consistent in your argument; I really cannot tolerate people who decry drug addicts yet quite happily consume the most destructive drug known on the planet.
  7. Injecting I agree with you on... but are you telling me that you never indulge in a beer or a glass of wine or spirits?
  8. Yes, it's like alchoholism... how many of us enjoy a drink and how many of us choose to become an alchoholic? As I understand it, some are more prone to addiction than others as much through a biological disposition as through a lack of willpower.
  9. So, you're a drummer? ;-)
  10. I understand what you are saying OD, but by the same token, I don't think much is to be gained by putting the boot into a person when they are down and almost out.
  11. Speed has that affect, yes... but as they say, once an addict, always an addict... the hard part is staying clean regardless of what your celebrity status may be. But I do have a problem with the sell/supply part if proven true.
  12. No we are not surprised, but he is definitely not "dumb", but rather messed up as are most people with drug related issues. A little compassion wouldn't go astray (although if the sell and supply charges stick, I might reassess that).
  13. Benny has been arrested and charged with intent to sell and supply. http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/ben-cousins-arrested-over-drug-possession-in-esperance-20120328-1vyfb.html

And a couple more... One of my favourite Japanese bands The Blue Hearts and a song called "Linda Linda" (there is a rather good Japanese movie of the same name based around this song - about an all girl band in a high school talent show performing the same song). On a side note, a band I was in used to confuse pub patrons when we played this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUab1kM2Rmc And my favourite Radiohead song "Karma Police":

A couple from me: Brian Setzer Orchestra (former Stray Cats foray into big band rockabilly - and these guys seriously rock! - imho of course): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncrILTdBywo The Fratellis "Henrietta" of their Costello Music CD... a fun band who, for some reason, remind me a little of Blur"

It was nothing too special, but happy to share:

Yes, I'm feeling rather flat at the moment, but I am looking forward to tomorrow's game so I can take some of the focus off the events of the past 24 hours or so. Today was a bad day for the clowns at GWS to send me an email asking if I was interested in becoming a member... usually I would have ignored it, but not today... today I was more than happy to provide them with a response

A few suggestions from an avid collector of film on DVD and BluRay: Arrietty (think it gets a run at the cinemas here soon, if not already - I have the BluRay from Japan) - a take on Mary Norton's book "The Borrowers", from Hayao Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli - wonderful/beautiful animation - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrietty In fact, I would recommend almost anything from this studio as they cater for adults (Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away) and children (Kiki's Delivery Service and My Neighbour Totoro being highlights), and are rarely short of superb. Older films I would recommend are most Kurosawa (Seven Samurai, Ran, Throne of Blood, Hidden Fortress, High and Low etc) Most Jim Jarmusch - Mystery Train, Down By Law, Ghost Dog, Dead Man etc A few Chinese films such as Aftershock, A World Without Thieves, Raise the Red Lantern, Not One Less, The Road Home, Shower Australian films such as The Last Wave, Lantana, Red Dog, Chopper French films such as Diva, City of Lost Children, Delicatessen, Amelie, Mic Macs, Wages of Fear Will add more later.
  20. Ronny Jordan meets DJ Krush (brilliant Japanese turntablizer) - "Love, I Never Had it So Good":
  21. Here are a couple I quite like... firstly an Anglo/Japanese collaboration known as United Future Organization "I Love My Baby, My Baby Loves Jazz": King Crimson Jazz Trio with "21st Century Schizoid Man" (as, if you know the original, you have never heard it before):

Yes, and while we're at it, let's also do away with the ceremonial aspect associated with the handing on of historically significant numbers such as 11, 31 etc; oh, and let's move to have the Norm Smith medal renamed to something more contemporary. And while we're at it, let's change the club song - it's too old and no longer relevant (actually, truth be known, I would be happy for us to replace the original with the David Bridie version )

I don't mind it... could give the players more of a sense of "belonging" to a club and its traditions.

Add Kalifornia to that list. Pitt is one of those actors who was at a disadvantage for having good looks - people tended to focus on that aspect and overlook his undoubted talent as an actor who, like Depp, is willing to put himself out on a limb by taking difficult roles in non-mainstream films.

Maybe we have found our Chinese sponsor for the front of jumper?
