  1. I get the feeling that that is the coach's thinking. Goodwin obviously thinks Viney has the temperament to be able to handle the responsibility and wants to let him grow into it with Jones there to guide him and act as a safety net.
  2. The first band I was in (1972) was based in Altona/Yarraville...was interesting.
  3. I hope that you're not insinuating that that is how I think. And why do you keep shifting the goal posts? You cite an article that relates to Sweden and Denmark and I respond to that, so now you talk of a wave of assaults across Europe. No one is saying that they are isolated incidents, and pack animals are certainly not confined to one particular belief system... are ALL catholics pedophiles or are all pedophiles catholic? (I notice you had no response to the Westminster and Vatican pedophile cases even though they are on a par with the Rotheram case you mention... is it because they have nothing to do with islam, which somehow excuses them?)
  4. You call it denial, I call it wanting something a little more substantial in the way of proof. Yes, I'm sure that the increase in assaults is probably partially due to immigration, but I would be equally sure that it is also partially due to other mitigating factors such as drugs and alchohol and just plain old violent domineering males. Do you think domestic violence and sexual assault cases in this country are for the most part down to people from islamic countries? On Rotheram, yes I agree that that was an unforgiveable cover-up as was/is the Westminster pedophile ring cover-up and the Vatican cover-up of their priests. But that is one case you are citing and yet again you set out to tar the entire islamic community with the one broad brush (whether that is your intent or not, that is certainly how it is coming across).
  5. That article makes no definitive statements...it hints at the multi cultural policy and Muslim immigration being partly to blame, but provides absolutely no conclusive evidence such as statistics.
  6. Being in Sydney and just a few minutes drive from the Swans intra club match that starts at 5:30, I was considering going to check out the opposition...but it's currently approx 42C!!!!
  7. I don't really care whether the 'Aints are being hyped or not. In the wash up, the only thing that will matter is how any team performs in season 2017 and nothing that was written or spoken prior to that will make any difference at all. I like to think that we now have one of the better mid-fields in the competition and that our forward and back lines are looking very strong, but I'm sure that every supporter of every other team is thinking exactly the same thing about their teams prospects. Having said that, come round one, I hope we tear 'em a new one!
  8. Actually Choke, that was the figure in the 2011 Census, but I was about to post the same thing - christian religions were 61.1%, 'no religion' was 22.3%, while 'unstated' was over four times the percentage of islam at 9.4%. Since 2011, our population has increased by a little over 2 million, and it is more than likely that the vast majority of those would either have no religion or would be christian (obviously I don't have the figures, but going by the distribution in 2011, it stands to reason that the bulk of new births would be from the more established religions). Even the hindus have a greater presence here than do the followers of islam. There was a push by the fear mongering extreme right wing/nationalists for people to avoid marking "no religion" in their census as otherwise islam would take over and we would be labelled an islamic country... http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/real-life/news-life/unholy-war-over-census-question-on-religion/news-story/c6171ebdad35a6614d09be493aa1fff2
  9. Do you really believe Trump is going to fix anything? He's just topping the swamp up with a whole new kind of stupid.
  10. Yep, the only difference now will be that Trump will impose a levy on the imports from Mexico and the poor who he has promised to help will be paying more as a result. Way to make America great again...not.
  11. That's exactly what this thread was about... a terrorist attack, that killed people, in a secular state.
  12. I think you will find that the figures state that less than 1% of the world's Islamic population is AT RISK of becoming radicalised, and that radicalised is not necessarily an indicator that they will be tending towards violent extremism.
  13. The Daily Mail is not what would be considered an entirely credible publication in the UK, sitting at roughly the same level as The Sun (if it still exists); I think ET gets it right, above. Just as this brings Thomas Karl into question, the veracity of Dr Bates claims and whether someone is in his pocket, could equally be brought into question.
  14. Depends on how exposed they are at that ground and how serious an electrical storm is there I would imagine. I seem to recall that golfers and soccer players (recently?) had been injured due to playing in electrical storms. Perhaps it's best to be cautious regardless of gender?
  15. They just announced that the remaining 3 mins of that quarter will be played after half time followed by a mini break while they change ends for the 3rd quarter.
  16. 1: Bulldogs 2. Carlton 3: Adelaide 4: Melbourne 5: Brisbane 6: GWS 7: Fremantle 8: Collingwood
  17. Thought you might appreciate this Biff ;-)

  19. Apart from the fact that he lost the popular vote, do you think Trump will practice what he preached in 2012 re the electoral college? http://mashable.com/2012/11/06/trump-reacts-to-election/#1vNzwMnIguq0
  20. Maynard is a monster.... when I attended training in Melbourne with my son, we both thought he looked physically a lot like Petracca (if not a little bigger!). Hopefully he will get a run in the pre-season comp.
  21. Hey, no need to butter it up. I have no idea what opportunities the players have, so you may well be correct (I didn't make a definitive statement re that). As you said, the "smart ones" will set themselves up... unfortunately there are bound to be those who are not that smart.
  22. I am not defending Islam (in case that's what you are thinking), I am more against tarring everyone with the same brush. Humans are sentient beings (derr!) and so apart from the relative handful of fundamentalists (in any religion) who seem to have been set up with faulty wiring, most people are able to apply there own moral standards and not follow instructive writings blindly. The reason I raised Kony was to show that Islam does not have a stranglehold on terrorism...Christianity has its fair share of terrorists as well. Also, I believe that those fundamentalists who follow any religion should go the way of the dinosaur. And I too am a fan of Richard Dawkins, as I am of Philip Pullman and Malise Ruthven (The Divine Supermarket).
  23. Which is exactly what the vast majority of them will have to do once their football careers are over in their early thirties. They might have no educational qualifications to fall back on, they might be carrying chronic issues with knees, legs, shoulders etc as a result of the rigours of AFL footy that will require expensive ongoing treatment/management, and unless they have been fortunate enough to be well advised, they will more than likely have no super plan in place (serious question: does the AFL pay super on player salaries?). The various sponsors/television companies are making an absolute fortune out of these players who are providing one of the most watched entertainment spectacles in the country, so why shouldn't they be well compensated and as the income to the various sponsors/television companies increases, why shouldn't their salaries increase as well? After all, the players are the ones who are putting their bodies on the line every time they step onto the field.
