DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Round 2
Bobby McKenzie replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Logic??????????????? -
Showing the white feather? I have been a longtime supporter too, but I'm not changing ships now or ever.
-
Get real mate! No way.
-
That's a REAL positive!
-
Jack Watts is far from being a weak reed. He WILL be a star. No doubt about it!
-
Thomas didn't have Brother Arthur during his time at St Bedes. Brother Arthur impressed me greatly as a human being.
-
If the great Norm Smith was still around he would answer that question in the affirmative.

Sorry pantaloons that I have depressed you even further. Yes, I do try and look on the bright side but today was an absolutely shocking effort by the team we love. Maybe tomorrow I will be my happy self again.

I have been harping on the fact that we should wait until the REAL season starts. Well it has and sadly, it's all doom and gloom for yet another year. Didn't anyone tell the players it started in earnest today? Two good things to report. 1. It's been cool over here in Perth and next week is the same with rain forecast. Saturday next week has a predicted high of 25 degrees so that won't be too hot for footy. 2. Melbourne should make it easy for our footy tipping along with GWS and Gold Coast. Gee, I seem to have lost my rose coloured glasses!

Yes, missed Big Bob. He's there now. The above players you mentioned certainly have the potential to be excitement machines. They have shown a bit already. -
I have come up with a list of the most exciting players to represent the MFC. This list is not necessarily our best ever players but ones who were capable of dazzling, creative footy that could turn a game in minutes. The solid, hard working guys don't come under consideration in this case. Those below are not listed in any particular order but just so exciting to watch. Don Williams, Ron Barassi, Geoff Tunbridge, Laurie Mithen, Jeff Farmer, Bob McKenzie, Robert Flower, Stephen Tingay, Adem Yze, Travis Johnstone, Frank Adams, Stan Alves, Todd Viney, Aaron Davey, Sean Wight, Alan Johnson, Peter Vardy, Glen Lovett, Gary Lyon, Gary Hardeman, David Neitz, David Schwarz, Hassa Mann, Jim Stynes, Russell Robertson, Steven Stretch, Big Bob Johnson and Allen Jakovich. Who have I left out that should be there? Please feel free to contribute your thoughts.

Thanks Robbie. It was great to see Bobby Skilton there. Gee, he looks well. What a champion footballer he was. -

Cam's a Demon at heart. He will be back at the club when he finishes at Hawkland. You don't play 220 plus games without getting red and blue blood. What a beautiful service for Jimmy. I watched it live on Ch 9 from Perth and it was so moving to see so many Demon supporters in club colours farewelling their hero. Also other non Demons there too. Would have liked a closer view of our Demons forming a guard of honour in their new blazers. One guy though and easily recognisable was Matthew Bate. Gee, his hair looked redder than ever! Farewell Jimmy, you will be always be remembered in so many different ways. -
Make that 101. I'm in as Bobby McKenzie.

Jim, you were a rare, delightful human being. A marvellous, courageous footballer, you continued for your whole life to be such an inspiring, loving person. Your passion for the Melbourne Football Club was so intense and there is no doubt in anyone's minds you saved it with your sheer determination and will power. RIP dear Jimmy and my deepest condolences to the lovely Sam, her beautiful kids and to Jim's parents and friends. -
Are you sure it was the first game in 1981 'mollydee'? i looked up all the VFL scores and we were miles behind Hawthorn at halftime in the first game of the 1981 season.
-
The original pessimist! Hawthorn by 100 plus at the G. No way! I certainly hope you are proven wrong.
-
Your last sentence is exactly what I'm talking about, the REAL season! Let us wait and see. I'm quietly confident in this year's line up.

Totally agree with Harrison rules. We have a lot of panic merchants on board. Do you think Geelong are worried about being thrashed by Richmond? Or Collingwood being really concerned at losing badly to Adelaide? It's the NAB cup. How important is it? What incentive did we have on Saturday? None, other than the risk of sustaining unwanted injuries. If I was a player I would be looking after myself a bit so that I was fit for the hurley burley of the REAL matches ahead. You don't get much match practice with a severe contact injury do you? I see practice matches as honing up your skills, working on a game plan and EXPERIMENTING with players in different positions. One poster wrote recently that anyone who played down results of the NAB Cup has no understanding of AFL football. I believe it is the opposite. Did I get really excited when we beat Collingwood? Sure, it was nice to have a victory but, what's at the back of the mind? It's ONLY the NAB Cup! Roll on the REAL SEASON!

A sane poster at last!

Sadly, I agree but you can bet your life on the others being reversed.
