The injury update sees a couple of additions with Jake Spencer rolling an ankle 30 seconds into the Casey reserves game last Saturday and a couple of players going backwards: Sam Blease (leg) – indefinite Simon Buckley (groin) – 3-5 weeks Colin Garland (foot) – indefinite Rhys Healey (quad) – 4 weeks Tom McNamara (hip) – 3 weeks John Meesen (foot) – indefinite Jake Spencer (ankle) – 2 weeks Austin Wonaeamirri (knee) – 3-5 weeks

The MFC injury list is fairly stable coming into this week's bye: Sam Blease (leg) indefinite Simon Buckley (groin) 5 weeks Colin Garland (foot) indefinite Rhys Healey (quad) test John Meesen (foot) indefinite Austin Wonaeamirri (knee) 4 weeks

Colin Wisbey Pyeman on the Black & White Extreme Bulletin Board suggested these as the top five draft picks if the draft were held now (bearing in mind that it's a long way out):- 1 Melbourne - Tom Scully 2 Melbourne - John Butcher 3 Richmond - Kobi Stevens 4 Fremantle - Kane Lucas or Anthony Morabito 5 West Coast - Anthony Morabito or Kane Lucas
-
Sam Blease (leg) indefinite Simon Buckley (groin) 4-6 weeks Colin Garland (foot) indefinite Rhys Healey (quad) 1 week James McDonald (knee) test John Meesen (foot) indefinite Austin Wonaeamirri (knee) 3-5 weeks As usual, we have a player who was injured at the weekend but not accounted for on the official injury list. Jake Spencer was injured in the first five minutes at Casey and the injury could be anything because I've read about three different diagnoses. Simon Buckley is our current 426 man.

Turns out he's training here with Collingwood. Too much for us to expect us to take such an initiative.

QUEENSLAND: PERFECT ONE DAY, RIEWOLDTING THE NEXT
alpha33 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Congratulations to the FD for having the courage to take strong action with Robbo. Geelong and Hawthorn proved last year that you win games by playing for your team. Robbo's act was the epitome of selfish play and he deserves a rest. Ricky Petterd was a different kettle of fish. He's been quiet lately and a trip to Casey isn't going to hurt him. -
QUEENSLAND: PERFECT ONE DAY, RIEWOLDTING THE NEXT
alpha33 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
The problem is not Deegirl but whoever is giving her the information. Not much damage giving out the team an hour or so early but next time it could be something more important that's leaked and it could be to our detriment. -
I think the list is down to its lowest level in 3 years. Sam Blease (leg) indefinite Colin Garland (foot) indefinite Rhys Healey (quad) 1 - 2 weeks John Meesen (foot) indefinite Austin Wonaesmirri (knee) 4 - 6 weeks There's always a 426 isn't there?

A couple of weeks ago Fevola was interviewed on TV (On the Couch?) and he said that he had a few mates at St. Kilda and that he played late night poker games with them. Today, there's an article about a "high-profile player with gambling problems" who David Schwarz has urged to seek help - David Schwarz urges star to act on gambling. "Who it is . . . I can narrow it down," Schwarz said after the Herald Sun's revelations about the extent of gambling in footy. "But it's not about naming and shaming." Well I'm not naming and I'm not shaming but there's one player who is on record to admitting that he plays these poker games and his form has been down on recent weeks. That, of course, doesn't necessarily mean that he has a gambling problem. In addition, I'm specifically not naming because, quite frankly, if it is Fevola (and I'm not saying that it is) and he's too arrogant to seek help, then good luck to him and the club that he plays with and good luck to Ratten and Judd in their quest to improve the culture at Carlton. As for us trying to get him ... pffft!

The article didn't say that Watts was the most influential player in the game; rather that he displayed excellent skills. Newton does from time to time run, chase and tackle hard. Other times and especially when he goes up to the AFL, he disappoints in the same area. That's why he's playing at Casey and not in the AFL. On another note, I noticed there were a few absentees from the Casey team whose absence might have made a difference between winning and losing - Clint Bartram, Simon Buckley and Jordie McKenzie who has been playing well for the Scorpions. I assume Bartram was emergency for the twilight game but does anyone know why the other two didn't play?

According to Mike Sheahan's article in today's Herald Sun, Cale Morton is high up on the shopping list of GC recruiting manager Scott Clayton - LET'S GO SHOPPING "He loves the Robert Murphy type: 184-192cm athletes with pace, skill and sound disposal. Which is why Melbourne's second-year player Cale Morton is so high on his list. When Melbourne took Morton at No. 4 in the 2007 national draft, Clayton supposedly had him at No. 1 on his wish list. Given his stated aim is to have the competition's best player by 2014, Morton would be a priority. The Melbourne youngster will be hard to shift. He has a bright future with the Demons and also has his two brothers, Mitch and Jarryd, living and playing in Melbourne." Too right he will be hard to shift and I hope the club works damn hard to secure Cale at the club for a long, long time.

Official afl website list Sam Blease (leg) - indefinite James Frawley (hip) - 2 weeks Colin Garland (foot) - indefinite Brad Green (jaw) - test Mark Jamar (foot) - available John Meesen (foot) - indefinite Jared Rivers (ankle) - 1 week Paul Wheatley (quad) - 1-2 weeks Austin Wonaeamirri (knee) - 6 weeks Liam Jurrah & Jake Spencer who have been missing in action for a few weeks are not mentioned although, if the Russian is available then Spencer must go back to the rookie list. James Strauss will sit the week out due to suspension incurred while playing for the Casey reserves against Coburg.

I've had a gutful of the club's injury list so here's the opposite - the Players Available List (senior list only). BAIL, Rohan BARTRAM, Clint BATE, Matthew BELL, Daniel BENNELL, Jamie BRUCE, Cameron BUCKLEY, Simon CHENEY, Kyle DAVEY, Aaron DUNN, Lynden FRAWLEY, James GRIMES, Jack JETTA, Neville JOHNSON, Paul JONES, Nathan MARIC, Addam MARTIN, Stefan MCDONALD, James MCLEAN, Brock McNAMARA, Tom MILLER, Brad MOLONEY, Brent MORTON, Cale NEWTON, Michael PETTERD, Ricky RIVERS, Jared ROBERTSON, Russell STRAUSS, James # SYLVIA, Colin WARNOCK, Matthew WHELAN, Matthew # Subject to VFL Tribunal outcome
-
6 – Cale Morton 5 – Aaron Davey 4 – Brock McLean 3 – James Frawley 2 – Colin Sylvia 1- Russell Robertson
-
Agreed. Anyone know how he's going at the moment?
-
Congratulations to Clint Bartram who plays his long awaited 50th game tomorrow. Robbo also has a long awaited milestone coming up. He's been stuck on 399 career goals for 10 months so when he kicks his first (early in the first quarter) it will be # 400! Cameron Bruce is on 198 career goals so if he pushed forward and kicks straight enough to snag 2 goals it could be another milestone for the Dees.

Teddy Strudwick was selected a few years ago as Melbourne's first and only NSW scholarship player. Not sure if he's still tied to us but he's playing for the NSW-ACT Rams at Oakleigh on Sunday.

Todd Viney and Steven Stretch both have sons who can really play ...
-
Good read and tends to support the rumour going around that Tom McNamara is in line to make his AFL debut soon. Menawhile Robbo would be a must and Maric surely ...

At its lowest level for some time ... MELBOURNE Daniel Bell (concussion) test Colin Garland (foot) indefinite Brad Green (broken jaw) 3-5 weeks Mark Jamar (foot) 2 weeks Paul Wheatley (quadriceps tear) 3 weeks BUT (as usual) it doesn't mention a few players who missed last week through injury: Liam Jurrah Jake Spencer James Strauss
