  1. Exploitative and counter-productive that book was. No-one will convince me otherwise.

Rudeboy aka Bruce Hearn MacKinnon would do nothing that was exploitative or counterproductive for Liam. He has at all times acted in Liam's best interest not to mention our club's despite being a lifelong Collingwood supporter.

I have known him on and off for 30 years and in that time all he has ever done is tried to help others.

We need more people like Bruce (and his wife) helping young men find their way in AFL and less ill informed sniping from the sidelines.

  2. Untouchable literally, would make opponents look foolish.

I am convinced had he played in a top team he would have won the Chas every year for about 10 years.

Whilst I grew up with 31 on my back and boots (anyone else have RDB boots?) my fondest memories are of Robbie running down the wing at the G.

I recall one day he ran the whole wing brushing off tacklers like he was running through a wheat field and yet he made Morton look overweight.

The clip reminded me of how good he was in the air.

  3. Whatever the real state of the list I love the reports we are getting.

    "backman kicks a goal"

"jimmy toumpas good or bad decision?"

Neeld is going to own this year.

Good to see Joel getting some curry for his kicking, if its cured then he will be in the starting 22 no doubt , I think the coaches love his attitude.

If you are reading this Bergo how about a Gawn in Sixty seconds from the NT?

  4. We looked after him and cared for him because it was the right thing to do. Strong cultures and clubs are built on organisations that are tight knit and look after one another. The fabric we wove to support Liam will, hopefully, hold us in good stead for the future amongst the players that are there now and will come into the future.

We didn't look after him in the hope of getting compensation for him should he walk. We did it because it was the right thing to do.

Good on us. We can hold our heads up proudly and say that we did the utmost to help a member of our community and a member of our club.

His situation away from, and inside of (to a much, much lesser extent), football has indeed been very sad and I wish him all the best in his career and, more importantly, his life.

Well said. I hope Liam finds a way back into footy and his trial goes well for him.

In my view its the wrong focus to be worrying about picks given the terrible and sad circumstances Liam found himself in.

Its time that the AFL finds a way to help indigenous players to balance an AFL career with their cultural obligations.

A lot of people associated with our game can be proud of thier efforts so far but more needs to be done.

  8. Several posters have astutely noted that Pedersen's nickname needs some work and we have a bunch of new players.

Its the off season and with nothing better to do so how about a few suggestions for some witty and obscure nicknames.

Last years pick of the crop was Mitsubishi.

We need a few more like the Russian, Chippa (an all time great name)...Hammer is good,

Maybe Dawes can have one with an obscure james Morrison reference. (we missed the opportunity to give him the number 27).

And no names with a 'y' or "o' at the end.

  9. Ron if you ask me to go to one of their functions I will refuse, your on your own.

    I dislike them.

That said I do like the fact they seem to have caught a bit of our old drafting expertise. Seriously how they let Toumpas drop and gave us hogan.

And they took scully. Sure given they have been handed tops picks galore this years choices are a bit strange.

I really hope they get Tippett as he will fit in with the $$$ culture they are building. (swans dodging a bullett there)

  10. Brilliant, go Jack. A dee through and through what more can you ask for.

We are building a culture to match the one that exisited when 31 meant something.

Our pack of red foxes will mean something and stand for something.

I loved that Barrass called it the Melbourne Footy ground!

By making it the captains number the so called curse is shoved in the dustbin and its meaning relates to what it meant when we were a tough winning club.

  11. For those who were there some questions:

Photos show Nicho, Tynan and Watts bigger, is that right?

Shannon Byrnes looks like Howe in some photos?

Does Roden always smile because he looks like its effortless in the photos.

Is trenners leaner in the legs this year? Looks like an adjustment has been made by Misson.

  12. I voted dont know.

Why? Apart from the fact my football knowledge is stored on a postage stamp there are things I think I am just not in a position to assess.

I have no idea if the hip is an issue or whether its an indication of the risk of cascading issues down the track.

Is Wines going to be a 200 gamer?

How do the experts rate the value of getting someone who is best mates with our future mid field engine has played with him.

Which of the two are more excited about playing at the Dees.

If we pick Toumpas its because we think he is ok and ready to go.

Finally everyone makes trade mistakes and number 5's can be better that a 4 but there is one absolute certainty who ever we pick someone will bemoan the one that got away for about 1000 posts and at least 5 years. (poll after Poll after poll)

  13. Sorry Rob.....I hate the idea of a Captain's number.....All the rest I can live with except Magner....Still a rookie....

I understand that it seems to me it removes the elements that concern others like the phantom curse or being taken by someone who leaves.

On the others the idea is if you are in the regular 22 your number should be in that area as well. A bit like the positional numbering in Soccer or Rugby.

Actually more like we think you are good enough to be in our 22 and if you aren't you should aspire to a number between 1 and 22.

  14. Nice to see a thread like this rather than all the distractions:

I'd prefer to see us keep all low numbers filled and I think players should aspire to a low number and earn it.

On that basis my wish list :

1 HOGAN (If as rumoured, but I'd prefer a current player like McDonald)

    2 Jones, Nathan

    3 HOWE

    4 Watts, Jack

5 DAWES (ox must give him the jumper)

6 WINES (keep him close to Viney)

7 VINEY (Needs to be his own man)

    8 Frawley, James

    9 Trengove, Jack

10 BYRNES ( next to the cap)

    11 Clark, Mitchell

    12 Sylvia, Colin

    13 McKenzie, Jordie

    14 Dunn, Lynden

15 MAGNER (deserves a low number)

    16 Grimes, Jack

    17 Blease, Sam

    18 GAWN

    19 Strauss, James

    20 Garland, Colin

    21 TAPSCOTT
