  1. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-06-24/mrp-full-statement-round-13

The MRP system is a joke. Simpkin intentionally hits Dawes in the head, and gets two weeks. Embley intentionally drops his knees into a defenceless player on the ground and gets one week. Spencer negligently (i.e. not even recklessly) bumps McEvoy in the head and he gets three weeks.

Why? All incidents were assessed using the medical reports. MRP once again using the effect instead of the cause.

    The system is a farce.

Paul Gallen wants to play AFL now.

  2. I read that article with interest this morning.

I have no problem in the AFL taking a role if its for the good of the club.

Whilst i still think his family situation is key to Roos decision it must be a big big plus if the AFL comes to you with the club and says "we need your help" that must be very hard to resist for anyone connected with the game. It would also make it hard to take any other offer such as Brisbane.

Clearly the Board is all but selected and being discussed with Roos as well.

Peter jackson said in the recent media conference that he had a clear understanding with Neil Craig which i took to mean he had no promises re coaching or his position next year.

Good to see we have a clear plan and the AFL is on board as this will give the players a lot of hope for the future.

  3. Forget the money or the challenge, I bet the biggest factor for Paul Roos is family by a country mile.

If you read what he has said about that over the years its clear its a priority. He took a year off to go to the US as he promised his wife he would do that.

I am not sure but I think his wife is from Texas and her family is very well off so money is not a key factor here.

I think his wife does not like the cold: 'Tami Hardy discovered Australian football. She remembers two things: she had never been so cold. And there was anarchy on the field. "I remember saying: 'This game has no rules,"' she said."

Second his youngest son is about 17 and thus i you would assume doing HSC this year so Roos will not be keen to commit to anything until that is successfully completed (if not and its next year then there is no chance he will move to coach us).

Sometimes its factors other than money that really have an impact.

  4. I think Mac Donald is a plus we need his never say die attitude back on the field. Can't kick we all know that so there will be a turnover but at least he has a defensive mindset and gives his all.

    Gawn needs a spell.

Has magner run out of puff? Don't get it otherwise.

  5. Seems to me top clubs like Geelong ( Ottens, Rivers) Hawthorn ( Gibson, Hale) Collingwood ( Jolly, Ball) Swans ( Tippett, Hall) aren't that concerned about draft picks at all. They know they aren't going to get them because they are on top. Just pick off the good players from the cellar dwellers, much easier. IMO Players association and managers have blind sided the AFL on this.

Means 5 year plans for cellar dwellers simply can't work as players depart prior to reaching their peak and you are left with immature kids. Its a nonsense to be hoodwinked by them. Winning should be a week to week expectation.

The AFL has stuffed up the whole trade situation leaving the battling clubs to wither on the vine.

  6. The $un$ are going to be a killer side, but no one will care.

    Thanks AFL.

What we are seeing is the ill thought out consquences of free agency and the gifts to the expansion clubs.

Whilst the AFLPA wants to get more for players and give them a chance to play in successful teams the immediate end game seems to be to put struggling clubs on the chopping block.

Draft picks simply do not make up for lost experience.

It is hard (impossible) to develop talent without experienced talent to support them.

This is why we see so many post here bemoaning the development differential betweeen other teams draft picks and our picks.

Its created a downward spiral not just for us but other teams.

Plundering the weaker teams is now entrenched and they are unable to compete on an equal footing for talent.

Its a serious problem for the competition unless you are happy to lose a few Melbourne clubs .

  7. His performance at the presser is exactly what we need. I hope he gets to address the players directly at some stage.

I really Neeld puts a couple of our future stars under his wing, in particular Watts.

Dawes efforts chasing (at one stage i feared for his hamstring he tried so hard) and on the ground were fantastic.

  8. Watts in... please not down back!

Either through the middle/wing (on the outside replacing Toumpas) or better still down front where he can learn endeavour from Dawes. Dawes was seriously good at the presser and I have no doubt if Watts was near him he would learna lot and be told in no uncertain terms if he was not putting in the required effort . I can see dawes benefitting from Watts delivering the ball to him.

Bail out: with Super sub Blease (always does well as the sub).

Both Mac/McDonalds must be pushing for inclusion as well and i would move Dunn into a tag or alongside Dawes. (Both Strauss and Nicho did enough to survive ).

  9. Why are posters maligning Sellar? His opponent kicked ONE goal.

    He did his job.

I have to agree with this fumbled a bit and should have taken a mark or two instead of punching, not the best but far from the worst.

I'd like to see Fitz and Davis get the nod and a rookie elevation as well.

Watts back in but leave Toumpas down for more confidence (show him the Robbie Flower clips).

    Jamar back in.
