I'd agree with this, and it's an important distinction. Most important on the field right now, and most important moving forward. I really hate the idea of heaping pressure on another MFC saviour, but there's little doubting the importance of Hogan to this club. Viney not far behind. .

I'm far from Neeld's biggest fan, but I'm not sure where you're coming from with most of those names. Green retired. Jurrah's problems have been well publicised, and I think only the harshest of critics would attribute them to Neeld. Wonna is in a similar boat to Jurrah with family issues that had zero to do with Neeld. Morton won't be missed. He's a skinny also ran, nothing more. Gysberts is barely performing to par in the VFL, let alone forcing his way into the North side. That leaves Moloney, Rivers and Petterd, all of which I'd still have at the club. One name you left off is Martin. I had doubts over moving him on, but the emergence of Fitzy has me now thinking "Stef who?"
-
I think this is debatable. In coach's speak perhaps, his draft number has no bearing. However, the draft is structured so that, at least in theory, clubs don't stay down the bottom for too long by injecting them with top end talent. In that sense, his progress is assessed as that of a number 2 draft pick. If isn't stacking up, for whatever reason, that has implications for how far away we are from making genuine progress up the ladder and finding the elite midfielders that you would hope to uncover in the top ten. It has relevance in the discussion.

I also don't think Blease is "way better", but you've relegated him to the VFL/depth at best. His ceiling is better than that in my opinion.
-
I'm not gong to sit down and do a full list assessment just cause you've asked for it. I've merely pointed out a couple of things I don't agree with in yours. It's not an attack OD. No need to get antsy. I do think you'd struggle to find anyone at all who thinks we have six A graders on our list. Perhaps you mean potential A graders?
-
I'm not saying your list is wrong necessarily, I just don't agree with some parts. You are however wrong on the number of A graders we have. If we had SIX A graders, we wouldn't be where we are on the ladder. Blease has explosive speed and good goal sense. Both are important attributes in any side. Tank can be worked upon. He's still young in terms of games played, that is a non-issue. The bigger concern is his ability to find the football, but he may just be a player who does more with less of it, though ideally he would regularly get to 20+. Overall I think Blease is another player who would be alot better in a good side. He's the cream. I'll do a full list again when I have the inclination. I've done it a few times before.
-
No, Ben's right. Right now, Jones and Garland are the only ones you could argue as being A grade, and both are very borderline. 5-6? You're dreaming OD. There's other things I don't agree with on your assessment. I wouldn't be putting a line through Blease and Strauss just yet for starters, and there's a much bigger question mark over Tynan than there is Evans and Kent.

Yes, whining. It's so repetitive. You dwell on the negative to the point of ridiculous, and you avoid acknowledging counter points to enable you to keep doing so. You've said Trengove never does anything on the field to lift his side, yet it has been pointed out to you a few times that he led the tackle count, and also put in a successful chase against the quickest player on the field. So you either don't rate these acts, or you would prefer to ignore them because they don't suit your argument. I share your concerns about Trengove, but you seem detached from reality, such is your level of criticism. And yes, the team's crap. You mentioning it a thousand times isn't going to change that. You're not opening anyone's eyes to anything other than your own inability to notice improvement. Seriously mate, get a grip.

There's no way jumbo was serious in that post, surely.
-
Someone please put this thread out of its misery. And for god's sake WYL, quit your bloody whining, or at least save it for when the team gets belted. It was a competitive showing against Brisbane. That's infinitely better than what was being served up just a month ago.
-
I wouldn't have him ahead of Eade. I admire the job Craig is doing but I'd have Eade just ahead of him. Better record and straight out of an elite environment at Collingwood. Pecking order for mine is Williams, Eade, Craig.
-
lol..you have to laugh. I know which million dollar man I'd be opting for.
-
I can only assume the OP thought it was his first game in Eagles colours.
-
Have to agree. I like WYL's passion, but the way he's carrying on here you'd think Trengove switched jumpers at half time.
-
This isn't his first game. He debuted last week as the sub.
-
I actually think it was one of his best moments of the season. Hanley is greased lightning and as soon as I saw who was behind him i thought it was time to shut the gate, but the commitment in the chase was first class.
-
I have concerns about Trenners, but your criticism of him here is well over the top. What about his chase down on Hanley on the wing? That's a team lifter. You don't have to kick 3 goals in the last quarter to inspire your teammates. Neitz was in a position to be doing that. I agree the captaincy decision was premature, but let's not go overboard on the kid.

Cheers for the response Andrew but I was talking about Wines. Anyhow, in the light of day I don't want to turn a Jimmy T thread into another discussion about Wines so I'lll leave it there.
-
I get that you're an angry type, but I'm really not sure why you continually use phrases like this. Even when making a legitimate point, it makes you look foolish. There's enough hostility around the joint without you calling everyone "dumb". Personally I thought tonight was a pass, with contribution distributed across the team. However I also understand if some people are frustrated at a missed opportunity for a win. I'm not going to insult them for it. But yeah, a marked improvement in i50s against teams around our level.
-
He does have a well shaped skull, so even that is nullified. It's almost unfair how good he is. A freak of nature. He consistently does everything right.
-
Did you want to elaborate? His impact on games, certainly in the first half of the season, has been phenomenal for a first year player. Happy for you to throw up some names for comparison.
-
It's Round 17 and he's in his first year of AFL. Not exactly surprising that he's dipping. It's still one of the best first seasons I've seen. Unfortunate for him that he's paying in the same year as the J bomb whose basically what you'd get if you genetically engineered the perfect AFL player.
-
There doesn't seem to be much discussion about the possibility of him having an illness, or simply not adapting to the conditions. There was more to it than just a bad game. He wasn't right tonight. He'll be fine. He proved his wares against the best in the league last week.

Melbourne v Brisbane Lions Demonland Player of the Year - round 17

I will applaud anyone who doubles the number of tackles of anyone else on the field. His effort is not to be questioned. But offensively, his lack of speed is having a clear impact. Opposition players eyes must light up when he gets the ball because he's so painfully slow in everything he does. You also up your tackle count when you're always second to the ball.
