  1. That's clear. As Royal put it, he just needs to get a few (more) games under his belt, as he hasn't played all that many full games. Also, so many here lament that we "gift" games to players: Toumpas was good for 3 quarters last week, and pretty ordinary for much of the week before. Needs to do it consistently for 2 or 3 matches at Casey before the lynch mob forms.
  2. Not possible to just stop and think before posting? Jesus C indeed: "we're well aware that Gold Coast will play three tall forwards, so that's why Davis and James Sellar are in the squad."
  3. It can be argued otherwise. They're a lot faster than what he is (just for starters). Magner is not the saviour, and if he was, he wouldn't be running round in the two's. He had a few decent games early last year, but was eventually found out at senior level. With another year under his belt now, who knows, but he'll get his chance.
  4. "he wanted me to play with a lot more speed and intensity and just play on instinct. That’s exactly what I did, so it’s working. I’m quite pleased that he made me do it in the end.” Tapscott on Neeld. (my underlining ...)
  5. Round seven Melbourne team B: Lynden Dunn, James Frawley, Dean Terlich HB: Daniel Nicholson, Tom McDonald, Colin Garland C: Rohan Bail, Jack Viney, Matt Jones HF: Jeremy Howe, Chris Dawes, Colin Sylvia F: Luke Tapscott, Max Gawn, Shannon Byrnes FOLL: Jake Spencer, Michael Evans, Nathan Jones I/C: Jordie McKenzie, David Rodan, James Strauss, James Sellar, Dean Kent, Aaron Davey, Troy Davis IN: Aaron Davey, David Rodan, James Sellar, Chris Dawes, Troy Davis OUT: Jack Grimes (collarbone), Jack Trengove (calf)
  6. Agree. The only hiccup in that though is that Casey have a bye this week, so getting a better appreciation of Clisby etc. will have to be put on hold for another week. As for the rest of the discussion, we'll have at least two outs: Grimes and Trengove. Dawes comes in, which could leave only one place. Surely we'd start to look at trying for some kind of consistency, there were a few new/young players in against Carlton (Viney, Kent, Strauss), it's just not ideal to keep throwing the team around with 4 or 5 changes each week. They may feel that they want a bit more experience against a young side, so Rodan or Davey would be the obvious choice. I'd also take Jetta over Magner, better defensively and better disposal. Or even Toumpas, from all reports, he has (re)found his mojo somewhat over the last couple of weeks at Casey and he's not just a throw it onto the boot player. Would also be a perfect opportunity for him to learn from the little master. Finally, Blease was also good last week in the VFL, and is probably in contention, we could use a bit of zip around the forward line. Still, we'll soon see.
  7. No, we (effectively) swapped Brock for Gysberts, that's where it all went haywire. Gysberts is currently running round in the VFL for North, the Pedersen/Gysberts trade is about right ... though time will tell.
  8. Probably/perhaps. As I said, just posted, nothing more. FWIW, it was retweeted by Wayne Ludbey, who is Sam Stynes brother. Which doesn't necessarily make it more credible, though he's generally a pretty reliable tweeter. He was the one who referred to Spargo as "The Sieve".
  9. Tony Sheahan ‏@TonySheahan1h PAUL ROOS; A DEMON??? http://wp.me/p2JmwG-10 via @wordpressdotcom Retweeted by Wayne Ludbey.
  10. Just putting this here, seems the appropriate place. No idea of its accuracy or not, just posting the link: http://ynotmedia.wordpress.com/2013/05/08/paul-roos-a-demon/
  11. The same information that said that Grimes would be out for the rest of the season? You only have to look at the (improved) performances of Nathan Jones and Garland (and perhaps Sylvia, but we've been burnt before ....) to see what's going on.
  12. Believe Pedersen has a 2 year contract. The others, one year. Rodan was the only draft pick (88). Gillies was delisted FA, Pedersen was a trade with Gysberts.
  13. But also shows what an achievement it was to get where he did, albeit for a comparatively short time. Tragic, though perhaps the greater tragedy is the number of Liam Jurrah's out there who we'll never even know about - except as unfortunate statistics.
  14. And who else did very well on the weekend: David Rodan. Valenti has been getting high stats in the VFL for years, but was found out at AFL level. Cam Pedersen has also consistently performed at a "class above" level in the VFL. High possession count in the VFL is no guarantee at all that a player will do the same or similar at AFL level. In any case, Magner will get his chance, but I for one have difficulty seeing that it will make all that much difference.
  15. He never said he was happy. Or anything like happy. Check the interview maybe.
  16. Except that no-one praised the performance against Brisbane. As Rawlings' said on the team chat last week, the entire coaching staff were really disappointed with the lack of effort against Brisbane, especially in the second half. Also, as Craig pointed out last week, there are no limitations (or excuses) being given to the players.
  17. ... and will ensure that, eventually, the wins will start coming.
  18. Great - and equally, shocking - to see it laid out like that. It's even more shocking if you take Rodan and Davey out of the list - they're no longer first 22, and will probably be gone at season's end. Neeld keeps mentioning the "young list", and people here then respond with team x had x players under 50 games/teenagers etc. etc. But the "young list" part isn't about the "kids", or the new players, it's about the so-called experienced players. Our "senior" players are just so much less experienced than the equivalent players at established clubs, and that's where our "young list" is really hurting us.
  19. We live in hope, but I wouldn't be holding my breath that we'll be able to get the midfield equivalent of Mitch Clark through trading. Toumpas, Viney and Matt Jones will be a year older and wiser, hopefully Trengove can shake off what's blighting him at the moment ... that's a good start. Perhaps someone from GC or GWS, but then we didn't really go for Josh Caddy it seems, and in any case, not sure how many like him there'll be.
  20. Fair enough, but plenty of Col's team mates are still learning the ropes, so suspect he's trying to a) do it himself and b) show the way.
  21. Clark has had ONE injury. A serious one. His more recent foot injuries related to that, which is why he's having this pin out. Back in 4+ weeks is not "next year".
  22. In 3 1/2 quarters of footy, he managed 3 disposals, only one of which reached its intended target.
  23. Agreed. In any case, Sellar was off sick last week, and is probably underdone (not to mention, has played his only decent football for us down back). Pedersen didn't deserve a place, and Fitzy is probably still considered not AFL fit/ready after coming back from his own injuries and concussion. You can only pick from available players, or players who've earned a place.
  24. Yeah, bummer that a guy who has played 4 games doesn't look like a seasoned pro. It was a dumb comment. He doesn't look lost. He looks inexperienced.
