  1. I didn't have much hope, to be honest. I hoped that if they had a case they would have Trengove's suspension thrown out or downgraded, of course. I also thought that a positive consequence of appealing would be that Trengove, and the playing group as a whole, would feel supported by the Club. Do I need to reiterate that I was not the one suggesting that DB's comments were designed to lift the players? I did not make this assertion so if you want to find someone to debate the point with you might need to start quoting someone who actually made the claim you want to dispute. (For the record, I don't think external stuff like suspension appeals has much impact on the way the team plays - just like 'getting a spray', it's fairly minimal at best).

Personally, I don't reckon it'll mean much either way. However, I think it's a) more effective than a desperate plea and b) less likely to be counter-productive. You're misrepresenting my views. What I 'questioned' is the appearance of desperation in your suggestions - this is distinct from how much we need to sign him.
  3. First, I didn't say it inspired the players to lift. In fact, someone else said DB's comments were about giving the players a kick and I gave an alternative explanation. Second, I think our effort early in the North game was pretty good, so you could argue that it did give us a [short-term] kick. (Note that this isn't my contention).
  4. They're pretty much my thoughts. Strauss could quite plausibly play without Warnock going out - there are plenty of players we could do without this week, based on the Carlton game.
  5. H_T: How would you shuffle the backline so that we have enough talls down there if we replaced Warnock with Strauss? I reckon we're a bit short as is, and I wouldn't want Gawn playing back.

I'm not Artie, but he said it here, didn't he? old55's appeal does that without appearing desperate.
  7. Maybe it's that, but I think at least part of the reason would be so that he's seen by the players - and the Club as a whole - to be sticking up for the players. There was a similar vein to the Trengove appeal and subsequent comments.
  8. I think billy was talking about Tapscott. Anyhow, good to hear that Strauss is playing well at Casey. He could release Tapscott further up the ground, if that's what you were getting at.
  9. I agree. Unless a young back comes in, Warnock stays.
  10. I suggest you send him a postcard. On a serious note, the OP has said their piece and for further Scully discussion please use one of the existing threads.
  11. I like the fact that the NAB Cup dates will be set in advance. It means the games outside of the 'normal' venues can be promoted well in advance, which is good for everyone.
  12. Are you serious? Here's what I said: That's based on this post: I also said this: That's based on this: I can't see that I've portrayed your views unfairly. I've been careful to qualify my comments about your posts with conditionals and, in case I am getting it wrong, have asked on multiple times for you to explain what it is you're actually trying to get across. If I'm wrong, simply tell me how I'm getting it wrong.
  13. Injuries play a massive part in team success. Successful teams normally have pretty limited injury woes in their premiership seasons.
  14. What are you trying to say? You seem to have suggested previously that the Melbourne 'tanking' has somehow negatively impacted on the willingness of the players to dig deep in games years later. However, you seem to be suggesting that Carlton's players haven't been negatively impacted because their Club has a 'culture of cheating'. Is that right? Btw, your post is pretty ironic, given the Maric 'goal'.
  15. Who did we get beaten by on Friday night? How are they travelling this year? In 2007, didn't they do the same (or worse) thing as us? Don't they have the same Coach now as they did in 2007? Each to their own.
  16. I think that was pretty likely when Newton was ruled out for 4-6 weeks. Anyhow, good to hear.
  17. What did McLean say? I haven't heard him mentioned.
  18. If we'd won our last three matches I'm pretty sure Frawley wouldn't be feeling flat about a game (or games, if you wish to argue that) years ago. I think the idea that the players are not trying as hard as they can because of a game (or games, if you wish to argue that) years ago is an even longer bow.
  19. I think it's pretty clear that it is.
  20. A man after my own heart. ...14 mins after, to be precise
