  1. If Pickett was responsible for the Davey bump in the back he would have been cited. I think because Davey's pretty small his action might be looked at differently.

    PJ

PJ has decent disposal and he is willing to throw himself at a pack to get the punch etc. He's worth getting game time into this season, and I think he's probably worth keeping on the list.
  3. I wouldn't mind Godfrey on the list next year. There are a heap of guys we could delist, and no one has 30 great players and 10 young guns who need experience. Godfrey gives us decent depth, but I do hope that we get to the stage where he can't get a game because he's way back in the queue. Has been doing the job the last couple of weeks and if he'd nailed that goal in the third he would have been getting some praise on here =) I think his disposal has improved in the last year or so, but it's still not great.
  4. While you do need to put somewhere near the best team out on the park, I would like the MFC to try and get as much game time into CJ as possible this year. If Bate or Jones don't come up it seems likely CJ will come back into the team though. I'd be surprised if Buckley debuted as a late change considering ND is often pretty particular about debutants (playing them at home, naming them in the 18 early).

    DEES v POWER

CJ getting a decent run of consecutive games in the seniors would help. I don't really care about the Brown mistake - it was glaringly obvious because it resulted in a goal, but these things happen. I didn't want him in the team for the Sydney match, so I'm not jumping on him because of the turnover. CJ has more upside. We know what Brown is at AFL level, and he's in decline.
  6. Maybe I'm missing something, but if this were the case clubs would effectively be getting nothing directly out of members (ignoring indirect benefits like a higher membership number helping to secure sponsors etc).

    DEES v POWER

Agreed. Wish Brown wasn't in the team. RE: Ward comments, I'd probably prefer him to Brown these days. Jamar probably needed to be dropped, but having PJ as our second ruck is a pretty scary prospect.

    Hypothetical

In one sense that'd be great. It's certainly optimistic and might be expecting too much from players who come back from injuries without match fitness, but I guess it's possible. On the other hand I can't help but feel that we're better off finishing down in the dumps somewhere
  9. So much for MFC fans all being fair-weather supporters Fwiw, I wonder what this 27,000 equates to in terms of full memberships in $ terms. Great to have the MCC/MFC members but I imagine they're making out membership look pretty good while we're not actually getting as much $ as you'd expect for 27,000 members.
  10. Heaven forbid there are people out there that don't judge a Coach based on five weeks
  11. So if I want my opinion to be taken seriously, and not have it derided as the postings of a fickle poster, I need to point out that I wasn't a fan of ND in 2000 either?
  12. Nice sig quip - Hird has to be one of my favourite non-MFC footballers. They now know the truth? >_>
  13. I think it can be tough on players when their position in the team is constantly under question and they're not sure about their abilities at AFL level. I know many players have said that they didn't play as well as they could until they'd become more confident of their spot in the team, and perhaps CJ does indeed need more confidence. Personally I'd be trying to get as many games as I could into him this year.
  14. Since you're even referring to a recent thread, maybe next time you could post in that thread instead of creating a new one Anyhow I hope to see YM repost the same thread - with opposition club and player names changed - for the next three weeks.
  15. Regardless of what happens this year - no. Sadly it's not far off it. Virtually all the guys who come out of contract in 2007 (and it's about 1/4 of our list) should be at least a little concerned about their situation.
  16. Agreed. Whether that means he gets a gig before Ferg at this point in time I'm not sure.
  17. Yeah, heaven help us if the buck stops at the Coach or the Board. Lets pass that buck on to the members, they're obviously not putting in enough!
  18. Yep. I don't mind Voss as a commentator, and he's improved his broadcasting since the first round. However, he seems really stiff when talking tactics in front of the screen at half-time and I think the whole thing seems a bit lame.
  19. If ND & co. decided that Garland was a better choice than Newton vs Sydney, should one good performance in a very dominant team alter their thinking enough to swap the two? Selfishly I'd like to see him play for the Dees so I could have a look at him playing senior footy, but that's beside the point
  20. Fair trade for a Premiership. I haven't been around for the past 43 years but I'm figuring we've had a few poor seasons - and without a flag to comfort us =) RE: Chris Johnson - I know many players in AFL and other sports haven't played to their potential while insecure about their place in the side. I'm not sure how many games CJ has played consecutively but I doubt it's too many, and from memory he's always been in and out of the side during his brief AFL career so far. I wouldn't write him off so soon, particularly as we don't exactly have a plethora of players with pretty sharp skills. RE: Bate - Amazing that posters seem to expect more consistency from a kid than they do many of our experienced players. I understand that some of our senior players have runs on the board and that Bate has been out of form, but he's a kid and those that are writing him off based on '07 when they were fans in '06 could afford to be a little more circumspect IMHO. Petterd looked pretty good - very composed. I couldn't help but contrast his composure with that of Bell's, particularly in his early days. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind Bell at all. Just an aspect of his game that was pretty exciting to see in a young kid.
