  1. Wellman's pegged him as a tall defender, but when I saw him in a match at Etihad I wondered if he could end up as a lead-up forward - seemed to lead well and kicked it nicely. I knew he was young but I was surprised at how young - two months younger than Jetta, the same age as Maric, two months older than Strauss. I think he's still uncontracted and it'd be pretty harsh to get ditched at his age.
  2. I think he had enough shots at goal - he just didn't kick straight. If he fixed his kicking - and I'm not sure he can - then he'd be useful.
  3. IMO salary's largely irrelevant for us - I think we're well below the salary cap.
  4. Haha, thanks. I don't think he's a 'dumb' footballer by any stretch. I do think he might be the most over-rated player we have (excluding kids that are often assessed almost solely based on potential). That's not to say that he's a bad footballer, but he doesn't take a key forward and doesn't hurt the opposition when we have the ball.
  5. Yes, I am. What's your point? That's got as much relevance as me asking you if you knew the Geelong weather forecast is for a max of 15. Getting back to your original post, if we can move Bell and PJ on I imagine we will. Apparently Carlton are interested in Bell so maybe something will transpire. Guys like Bartram, Buckley, Cheney and McNamara will probably be hoping so.
  6. Oh my! If you don't want it to be anyone else's 'business' then keep it to yourself. You posted it on a discussion board. People discussed. Welcome to the internets.
  7. The 'french typesetting', the misdirection - this post has it all.
  8. Unless a classy mature player falls into our lap we should be looking for picks. If we win a flag it's going to be on the back of guys who are still young. I'd rather add to that group than pick someone up who will give us short-term benefit but uin a few years retire or be pushed out of our best side.
  9. I think it's the opposite. Anyway, good to see Rivers finally getting out on the park for a significant amount of time. It'll be interesting to see how he travels next year.
  10. I think the idea's right but I also think you're a year too early. In 2010, with such a young side, Green will still be needed all over the field. He'll end up along these lines though.
  11. I'm not a fan. Melbourne's 'jumper-style' sticker/logo is far better than that Adelaide logo.
  12. It suggests Jamar's value - and thus his ability to command a nice salary - will be better next year. Since he played less than 10 games this year and will be the number 1 ruck next year I think it's a fairly good bet. Jamar's manager has done the right thing.
  13. Fair assessment. Meesen's glimpses have been massively over-rated on here. It's akin to a drowning man talking up the buoyancy of straw.
  14. I don't mind giving him away for nothing - if he was uncontracted we'd probably delist him ahead of other guys in the gun, so that would be a win. I don't know much about Fisher but there's no point bringing in someone who isn't best 18 or has significant upside (and would fill a hole).
  15. Indeed. That's below market rates and he's worth more than market value to us, given our ruck stocks. I agree. By the way, I don't know if this is predicated on obtaining pick 36 from someone, but we've got 34.
  16. Glad to be of service. :D
  17. Better this than potting the Club over tanking etc. Sure, but there aren't nine Dolce & Gabbana's in the Melb metro area.
  18. To some fans the AFL might be this wonderful and idealised industry. For players it's a job with bosses you may not get on with, employers with crummy conditions, colleagues that you may or may not get on with, a crummy commute, etc.
  19. Brock's choice wasn't Junction or Casey - it was Casey or Carlton(?). ...or you change your job for somewhere that has a better commute, something many people do all the time. Most Demonlanders probably can't fathom why you'd leave Melbourne, but when you're in an industry it's far from the idealised world you might imagine it to be. If McLean's situation occurred in an industry other than footy no one would have a bad word to say about leaving because you know the bosses, have a better commute, etc. I reckon a bus would be worse. First, you have to leave when the bus leaves - generally that means when the last player is ready to go. Second, a bus is unlikely to go as fast as you would in your car (particularly if you're Brock, ZING). Third, it's probably a longer route if you end up at the 'G or wherever. Indeed. ZING.
  20. 23's pretty young for a ruck so whatever he is now you can expect he'll be better in a couple of years.
  21. - Mids with skill - KPF - Small quick defender (punt on players with later picks / rookie picks) - Rucks (as long as we retain Jamar, just keep rookie listing them until we find someone)
  22. How would you feel if the uni said 'hey, we've opening a campus in St. Kilda, it's got great facilities, staff members you know and get on with really well are running the new campus and have major teaching roles there and we'll match or better the perks you have at Brunswick'? Most people would at least consider it.
  23. That Carlton will win one first and that he's going to be a bigger part of that one.
