  1. If we make a premature decision now because we fear pressue mid-way through next season we need a change of management. At the end of the year we'll have seen Bailey's work for three years. If there are signs he's the man then it'll be time for a two-year deal. rpfc, I'm not sure why you've posed the situation as one year now or three years in a year.
  2. Haha, geez. I wasn't watching on TV - hurrah for CricInfo.
  3. It's why I said Grimes would be a star of the MFC, rather than a star of the competition. I'd rate it less than a few others, but there's a massive gulf between potential and realisation of potential. The upside might not be as big but he's already closer to being a very good player than most on our list.
  4. Hoping they can pick up a bargain after another Club stretches their salary cap to fit Fev in.
  5. Tense finish! We could do worse than calling up Katich, given he can bat anywhere in the order and is also a handy part-timer (which may be useful since Clarke's out).
  6. This is where I have him pencilled in, and I think this is far more likely than an inside/outside mid.
  7. He's probably the most over-rated bloke on our list atm [fwiw, I like Rivers].
  8. You've got to be kidding. So, you watched the Saints v Geelong grand final and thought 'pfft, Melbourne could have won this match...if we still had Robbo'? Wow.
  9. Is that a surprise? Many Melbourne supporters are probably having kittens and given his high profile I'm sure it's of interest to fans of other Clubs.
  10. You're right. McKinley isn't one.
  11. 'Ox' also told the whole world that on SEN.
  12. Miller for 21 or whatever seems fair enough. Maybe a change of scenery would do him some good. If a best 22 player is chopped then that frees a space for one of the youngsters...
  13. Three years is fine. I think four years is pushing the friendship. If Davey can get four somewhere else then good luck to him, providing we get adequately compensated. The captaincy isn't a perk to be thrown around to sweeten deals.
  14. You get to name your price, yes.
  15. I could simply retort that I think you don't closely watch Col play very often but that seems pointless. I can think of numerous times where there's been a 50/50 loose ball out on the Southern wing and Col certainly hasn't 'gone in like a mad man', but I'm not going to track down footage of our games and then scour through the 'tapes' to prove a point. It might be that he feels that letting the opponent take possession and then applying a tackle will lead to the best outcome, but this propensity doesn't lead me to think he loves to receive hits. We'll have to agree to disagree. Sylvia every time. IMHO Bartram's skills are the reason why he hasn't yet been recontracted. I don't think this has much bearing on the original assertion though.
  16. Just a couple of points. First, best available is a rubbery term. Second, the Club - BP and/or DB - have said they'd like a tall and it seems there won't be one in the top two. Talk seems to suggest there'll be some decent talls left around the 11 mark and if so, I'll be surprised if we don't take one.
  17. I think he has the potential to be a star - not necessarily of the competition but certainly of the Melbourne Football Club. When he took the game on late in the game versus WCE it appeared that he had that real will to win, deciding someone had to stand up and that it would be him. He's turned it over under no pressure a little too often for a guy who kicks the footy well, so I think it's a concentration thing. It'll be interesting to see how much time he gets in the midfield next year, and how he would cope with a tag. One of the positives from 2009.
  18. Choosing to take a pick over a player is a gamble (or certainly more of a gamble than taking someone who has already played AFL footy for a while). I was happy for us to trade TJ for a punt at what we could find in the draft at 16. Whether we'd drafted Weetra or Grimes wouldn't have made the decision to trade TJ for that pick in the draft any better or worse. A pick is an opportunity - recruiting, development and luck decide on the outcome. As with the TJ trade, I'm for taking the pick regardless of how pick 11 turns out.
  19. None of this makes it likely that the majority of Demonland posters are going to have their ear to the ground regarding Williamstown coaching rumours. For this thread to be coherent it required Demonland posters to be aware of a rumour involving the Williamstown role. Join the dots!
  20. I'd rather take a punt on a tall in the draft.

I think someone would have a crack at Buckley.
  22. I'm with you. I think he looks like a 'natural' up forward but I'm not sure he has the appetite for the aerial contest that you'd like to see. Might be someone we'd put on the table - another Club might feel we're not using him to his best potential and offer something decent.
