  1. I think you do have a point WJ, and while I think I'll get by without numbers, it would be handy. See you all at the match with my binoculars & notebook.
  2. Not to be a smart arse, but all the new players look fairly different from one another. I think we should be able to comfortably tell them apart. The only issue is with Casey players.
  3. Nick Maxwell gave much credit for Collingwood winning their flag in 2010, to players being held back in training sessions throughout the year and meticulous management of training loads. It is the benchmark - there is no need for concern. Just the opposite. NB. This also made it somewhat amusing when Jack Anthony arrived at Freo and declared that they trained a lot harder than when he was at Collingwood.
  4. Agree. His delivery into the forward line and around the field is far more valuable than what he can give us playing in the forward 50.
  5. Fairly obvious... You think Collingwood built their membership base by focusing on pleasing unreasonable fans, instead of concentrating on what is best for the on-field success of the club? When those 2 things align it is great, but the club comes first. What you seem to want is what the family and race days are for. As far as matches, we'll have plenty of chances to watch the team in the NAB Cup / Challenge and the season proper. I think you also overestimate the financial benefit from the attendance of a intra-club practice match. The sausage sizzle doesn't generate that much revenue.
  6. Hahaha fear-mongering and nothing more. Concentrate on on-field success and the rest will follow. If you're worried about missing the opportunity for a family event, attend the race day on Sunday.
  7. I have a feeling this saga will be just as disasterous for the club as losing the NAB cup match to Freo in 2010...
  8. Can we leave the incredibly uninformed medical diagnoses out? Nicholson looked sore walking laps so it must be OP... ?!
  9. Yes. It is. I also don't let my understanding of the situation be clouded by emotion. You're obviously upset you can't attend. It's unfortunate that you can't, but the club comes first.
  10. Read the thread - the answer is very clear.
  11. So if that was the case, the identity of the captain was known weeks or even months ago, but the club decided to keep it all a secret until today, just for effect. That makes sense. What could possibly be achieved by withholding the decision? Think about it... The players would want to know too, and for practical reasons. It's not just about releasing the info to the public. For the captain to have been decided upon, they'd need to have already voted. What possible justification could be used for holding off the decision so long after the vote? And if the players knew, do you really think it would remain secret for that length of time?
  12. I dont think injury issues have anything to do with his naive attempts at leadership. All the guy had going for him in that dept was that he was at one time the most promising young player on our list, and that he was at times outspoken.
  13. Don't think it has happened yet...
  14. Until last week I didn't understand the term and would have voted against it. Had Flanagan's article been published before the decision was made, maybe the club have also had a better understanding and made the now obvious decision. As it is, Giants isn't the worst I've heard and it will have to do for now.
  15. Why the need to change it from black? I'm happy with simple, easy to read black text. There's no need to change every single aspect of the colour scheme so that it is representative of the club colours. It ends up looking like a flyer designed by a 6 year old.
  16. Yeah, it was a great article (albeit a week old) and everything MF says is correct... So why can't they change from the Giants, to the Walers? It might look a bit silly at this stage, but maybe in a couple of years when they realise there is no connection to the term "giants" and they are looking to forge a more meaningful identity. Much like the swans refer to their "bloods" culture, the Giants should unofficially adopt the Walers amongst the playing group, until it is ingrained with the supporters and a smooth transition can be made.
  17. Considering the nickname is based around people getting his name wrong, I'm not surprised at all. And wouldnt it be "Only-one-ah"? Hank. Bad boy Billy / Bowser. Chip. (see fav players)
  18. Mick's contract runs for a further 3 years after he hands over the coaching reigns to Buckley, as "Director of Coaching". Presumably Eddie would have him signed to a water-tight contract that would mean, if another team were to sign Mick as coach, it would cost them far more than he is actually worth.
  19. Do we need to make a decision on the replacement for Bruce before the season commences? If not, I'd be happy to wait until one of the rookies has earned selection in the senior side. Why burn the upgrade on a projection?
  20. Michael Moore? Marshall Mathers? I know the residents of Lygon street might desperately want the grey ghost at the helm, but I doubt Eddie would let it happen.
