  1. Well ours dress as the village people to avoid detection so why not... however the Eagles have probably developed a cloak of invisibility such is there football department expenditure
  2. Does anyone else have a serious man crush on Bailey? I know a bloke who has a a nephew who is about 10 years old and is a die hard demon... as kids do, he once rang the club just expecting he could ask to speak to Bails about some suggestions he had for the side... of course whoever answered said 'um.. he's not here right now but we'll let him know you called' the next day (I think) Bails actually rang the little tacker back and had a yarn with him for about 20 minutes and answered all his questions. What a legend... imagine some [censored] like Malthouse doing that "Brownlow medal form" that is some serious tent-pitching stuff. Not an absurd call either given Sylvia was one of the best players in the comp for a solid month around the middle of the year and his performance against the Hawks may well have been one of the best individual efforts of the season Damn straight you remind them of it Dean. Start with Leigh Matthews
  3. He did come in 4th in the B+F. I've never been a huge fan TBH but he has improved every so gradually in his 5 years at the club. He is not a name that gets thrown up as one of our future stars, but he should be entering his best 3 to 5 years now and who knows how good he will be with a better midfield serving him. Has the assets.
  4. you must be kidding. Colin Sylvia is currebtly our best player and perhaps no.1 most important for the future behind Morton, Frawley, Watts, Jurrah etc I have met the guy himself and I assure you he is a very decent individual. The off-field incidents he has beeen mentioned in, one was he was accused of kicking his girlfriend's handbag as it hung from her arm, all charges were dropped. The only other thing peoplle say about this guy was that he may have had some involn=vement in the night that some guy was killed when didak maybe could have prevented it. So, this is an indvidual at the age of 24, and you dare to presume from behind your keyboardIn other words, he was one od a thousand people that Didak saw that night, CS had nothing to do with it whatsoever Anyway,k my strongly laboured dfifficultly typed point is that Colin Sylvia, amongst our own supporters is unfairly targeted as some sort o party boy recalistrant. Howver, I confess to hyaving no idea whatsoever what really goes on behind doors, if i did, i'm sure you would fine the following: Males aged 17-27 like to go out with their friends and abuse alcohol. As scary as you may find it, a hube percentage of these young mean abuse drugs in addition to alcohol. The most common ones are speed and ecstacy. Now, everybody knows this, I can't remember who the hawks player was (TGR will inform( was it Dale Lewis... Swans? Anyway they are all on drugs. Some of you older generation wouldn't belive it but the fcat srae its VERY wisespread in our society. The good news is that for the most part it doesn't turn blokes into violent animals and it apppears to have no long-lasting side effects whatsoever.
  5. very good post, you can say exactly the same thing about the Saints game r22, the final result looks very average but the facts are these were the top two sides and we more than matched it with both of them for long periods in each match. What we saw was our kids eventually being run down by more experienced and developed sides... as we go on the bulk of the side is just getting better and better Definitely expecting to jag a couple of wins off some top sides and also to demolish a couple
  6. Morton will kick more than a few, as a midfielder floating in and occassionally as a genuine inside-50 target
  7. the only thing better than having this freak/genius on our list is knowing we pinched him from them
  8. obviously getting heavily into semantics now... we aren't really disagreeing I don't think... my point is 'you can't just look at a player's height as an isolated factor and determine him to be more valuable than a shorter player because there are a myriad of other factors in addition to height that define their overall quality' i've never said it (height) doesn't matter at all, just that it is given far too much credence because the uneducated can glance at a stat sheet and make a determination based on a 3-digit number... do you disagree with that statement? the question on Gys is 'what would have happened if we never had pick 11 in the first place?' (read: never traded mclean) had we had only pick 18 then Lucas, Melksham would have been gone, and according to you and others here so would Gysberts have been gone so we would have used 18 on Tapscott... of course the Blues would have had 11 and maybe they would have taken Tapscott... who knows
  9. [Abuse deleted], why dont you actually respond to the post above? if player a is inferior to player b in all those criteria/attributes but he is 6 cm taller who is the more valuable player?
  10. 1."all other things being equal" is precisely my point if you have actually read; they aren't equal, any two players have different values in vertical leap, use of the body in contests, body strength, positioning, brains etc.. when all these factors are combined along with height the picture is much more complex than just going 188>182 and leaving it at that, hence my protest at the importance so many people place on that 3-digit number as an isolated factor 2. Youre trusting your own guesswork at why the club did what they did and know nothing more than I on the issue
  11. as do I... the Watts/QB incident did us no favours at all not sure it had any impact on attendance qb crowds 09: 61287 08: 59548 07: 70660
  12. well his original contention is that 6 cm = 'significant advantage" so i'm interested to know why 3cm difference would be a laughable statement
  13. why don't you try actually contributing to the discussion if you are such a smarta55 knowitall or do you just sit back and take potshots? nobody wants to read your clever little jibes old man this site is for football discussion.
  14. are you serious or joking? make up your mind, does 3 centimetres matter or does it not you can't have it both ways
  15. That's a joke to stir me, surely 7 millimetres and he's a Key Position Player
  16. dunno... what's the acronym for Fully Understanding Christmas Kites On Friday Fortnight?
  17. 'more likely than not' does that help you understand? try really hard this time
  18. I agree also, a major criticism of him has been that he tries to do too much and gets caught, but ive always said he should keep working at it, refining the ability to slip and break away from tackles, this is what guys like Mitchell and Chapman do that makes them effective. Jones will get the hang of it with more experience, he already has pack-beavering down, get his bash and crash going and disposal a touch more consistent and he will be one of our most damaging players particularly with a fleet of gun outsiders around him There is usually a big surprise... wonder who it will be... somebody like Cheney, McNamara, Bartram will come out of the woodwork maybe
  19. If you have a biro in your field of vision, 6 cm is half of that. It's about the size of your car key. You think that gives you a 'significant advantage' in a game of football? As I said, maybe once or twice in a match in a marking contest you would have a slight advantage, and if either player is in a better position eg on the lead it is totally irrelevant, if the other bloke is better with his body use, his leap, his strength, that advantage is more than nullified.. but people can't glance at a three-digit number quantifying those attributes can they anyway im just ranting because im sick of reading people's expert opinions on why player x is better than y because of a car key... the same goes for 'gee he runs a fast 3km time trial' yeah well that's all well and good but we are playing football not track and field... and while im at it the same goes for weight/bulk... Paul Johnson is a monster of a man but is about one tenth of the player Morton or Jurrah are, even in contested marking situations where supposedly it is so critical to weigh a billion kilos, and they are the skinniest blokes in the side - it's because they actually have the ability to play football and it is not their athletic qualities that define them... Morton's endurance and Jurrah's leap are assets but they aren't the same as their height and weight in that quantifiable way and if they didn't have skill/brains to go with it they would be useless, see nearly every big bloke we have recruited in the last decade for examples, or take a look at S.Buckley or Bail for blokes who are there for their running ability but little else. Maybe if so much credence wasn't given to these numbers we wouldn't see so many sub-par footballers out there and we would recruit blokes who may be shorter/skinnier/slower but can actually PLAY. It's great that we have just focused our energies on getting athletic types for 3 drafts but they better be able to play too. At the end of the day it's about how you influence a match when you are out there with 43 other blokes. James McDonald has been one our most important players for a decade and he would probably not get a look in today because he doesn't run a 50 beep or big vertical leap and is not tall or bulky he just knows how to impact a match of football. Bottom line, if you wanted to assess a player you'd have to make a list of about 25 factors and height would be just one of them and a far less important one than many others /end crazy rant! PS On Gys, I'm basing it on the fact I didn't see any media or supporter predictions/assessments that him in the top 20. Don't pretend you know any better than me on this, I don't claim to be an expert but clearly my statement is probably right based on secondhand impressions in that picks 11-17 would have been someone other than he but there is no use arguing something like that.. i'm certainly not slagging the bloke off in any way, i'm just saying that if you apply logic its more likely the Brock McLean situation has netted us Tapscott, not Gysberts. Last year you couldnt say the same for Johnstone/Grimes/Maric because Maric wasn't a gem that happened to be untaken at 21 and there was no way Grimes would have been there at 21 we were lucky he was there at 14, the situation was the other way around to this year /end 2nd crazy rant!!
  20. FCS people a bloke's height is one of a myriad of factors that determine his overall worth. I continue to be completely staggered at how much people crap on over 1 centimetre here and there, when was the last time you looked at a ruler, if you reckon 1 centimetre is important you have rocks in your heads. Now look at 10 cm, that's about the difference between Jones and Gysberts big bloody whoop how much advantage is that really in 120 minutes of football, it might mean there is one or two marking contests for the entire day where Gysberts has a slight advantage and that's it when you are talking about key position players and ruckmen it's a little different as they spend more time jostling in one on one marking contests but as far as midfielders go, they spend the match wrestling in packs and running their asses off and their height is almost irrelevant skills, heart, brains, guts these are the attributes that make quality footballers not friggin millimetres wake up FCS PS If we hadn't traded McLean we would have had picks 1,2 and 18. They obviously rated Gys highly and they selected at him at 11 before Tapscott. Had they not had pick 11 they would have taken Gysberts at 18 where he definitely would still have been available. So in reality we traded Brock McLean for Luke Tapscott
  21. ummm on what planet is Miller worth a first round pick? and which did you forget, Watts or Scully?
  22. you are a fool, I don't know if you actually saw any of season 2009 because your perception of what is happening at the club is warped I just watched the rd 20 match against Freo and we absolutely belted them despite missing half our side. we lost 5 matches by 3 goals or less this year and most of the time were missing several key players. We also 'list managed'. We are far from the worst side in the comp, and thanks to Bailey, we have the absolute best group of under 21s in the league, by far. The only way is up and Bailey is not going anywhere
  23. greatest thread ever Why the F didn't I go to the function I feel like kicking my own ass
