  1. no actually you are wrong, there ARE occasions when a side gets completely shafted (funnily enough it is often a Victorian side playing interstate and very often in SA) and it is pretty obvious when you lose by a kick that it is a simple cause and effect
  2. Umps cost us at least 5 goals. The commentators are so gutless for not pointing it out. How was the HTB against Viney in the first qtr? I'm going to make a highlights video of this game and point out all the garbage. Grimes should be beheaded Had a gutfull of Dawes, he gets about 3 touches a game and then fluffs simple set shots with them Watts what in the name of God is wrong with this bloke's head? He can play an absolute blinder of a qtr and do zero for the other 3 Massive error having Kent as the sub That's SIX losses by 20 points or less, had we won them all we'd be 6th on the ladder. FMD.
  3. Yes but that paradigm hasn't changed in 20 years has it!? Point-missers
  4. last 2 weeks, us vs opponent: goals: 9-29 I-50s: 62-118 disposals: 609-767 clearances: 72-84 I just want to see a decent increase on that rubbish this week please
  5. except for the fact that every year it breaks its own attendance, membership and revenue records
  6. hmmm agree only to an extent.. let's ignore the last 3 drafts, as they are too young, and take the 5 before that as a decent sample set 2010: Swallow, Bennell, Day, Gaff, Polec 2009: Scully, Trengove, Martin, Morabito, Cunnington 2008: Watts, Naitanui, Hill, Hartlett, Hurley 2007: Kruezer, Cotchin, Masten, Morton, Grant 2006: Gibbs, Gumbleton, Hanson, Leuenberger, Boak In that group of 25 there is a LOT of talent, randomly getting 2 of them you would be pretty happy. However, I agree, if it's that or someone like Dangerfield - forget it, take the established player
  7. No you're not. If you were you would have said something like "The realization that the figure of the Earth is more accurately described as an ellipsoid dates to the 18th century (Maupertuis)" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Figure_of_the_Earth
  8. yeah but to me all 7 of the extended bench have big question marks over them going forward, honestly not confident any of them will 'make it' I guess the footy dept thinks similarly and that's what makes them the fringe
  9. again, what are the national weekly attendances compared to AFL's 290,000
  10. how could those two not go completely hand in hand what you are saying is that nobody watches soccer but heaps are playing it, surely that can't be the case
  11. are you serious? What better indicator of a sport's popularity do you want? We are talking about the fact that having 3 extra sides should in no way relate to a dilution of talent given we now have 4.5 million people soccer, rugby, cricket, basketball.. these were all in existence 20 years ago and none of them have gained any ground or taken anything away from the AFL in the time since you can't just name six basketballers and rest your case FFS jesus christ people will argue if the world is round in here
  12. I must have missed the recent landslide of popularity that basketball is getting. They getting 290,000 a week to games are they?
  13. Why would the 'current thinking' be any different than it was 20 years ago? The AFL is arguably even more dominant now than it was then. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-03-05/afl-crowds-worlds-fourthbiggest "WITH an average crowd of 32,163 in 2013, the AFL ranked fourth in world sport for attendances per match, according to the League's annual report." "AFL Chief Executive Officer Andrew Demetriou has announced that 2013 AFL club membership had reached 756,717 members nationally – the highest recorded figure in the game’s history and a 6.94 per cent increase on last year’s total." http://sportsbusinessinsider.com.au/news/category/financial-and-governance/afl-announce-highest-membership-numbers-in-games-history/ FCS that is 750,000 paid up members and 290,000 people who rock up to a game every weekend! and what's the bottom line on that? "THE AFL achieved record revenue of $446 million and more than doubled its net profit in 2013 despite the shadow cast over last season by the drawn-out Essendon supplements saga." http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-03-04/afls-446m-record This type of thing makes my blood boil. They talk about 'staying competitive with other codes' and blah blah, using it as justification for inequitable fixturing, rules-fiddling that ruins the game for its loyal supporters and number of other greed-based phenomena that plague the modern game. There is no reason for GWS and GC to even exist apart from pure unadulterated greed at the expense of the enjoyment of the sport by its long-term supporters. Disgusting.
  14. well that doesn't make sense 1994 - pop. 18 million, 15 AFL sides, 1.20 mil per side 2014 - pop. 23 million, 18 AFL sides, 1.28 mil per side
  15. Upcoming open training sessions: Wednesday 16 July - Gosch's Paddock, 9.00am Friday 18 July - Gosch's Paddock, 10.00am All other training sessions are closed sessions.
  16. most naturally gifted player I've ever seen... maybe Franklin is his equal a tragic, tragic waste
  17. yep sounds like it might be two weeks later vs GWS at the MCG, that will give him 3 games for the year unless of course the club is talking carp again
  18. why do people make statements that are so incorrect and so easily verified? we lost the second half by 7 points. That equates to TWO quarters, not one, wouldn't you agree I am not a happy demon right now but for the love of god why do so many posters overdramatise and plainly misrepresent the truth we pretty much broke even in a half with the side placed 4th. It IS something to put some stock into.
  19. there it is again! My favourite! The old interrupted pre-season get out of jail free card. Where missing some training is an excuse to be rubbish 7 months later. Why don't we just put every player that gets injured in the PS on ice, long-term injury list so they can be cherry ripe for the following preseason, where, hopefully they will not get interrupted again. As we know these are delicate little flowers and just because they are declared fit and selected to play doesn't mean we should expect them to be any good on the field. FMD.
  20. and gee youve got a lot of ammo when youve smashed your opponent 10 times in a row by 10-20 goals each time wtf can you say
