Listening to Roos on 360 last night, even he (Roos) didn't realise he had "this" in him. What I'm loving is that Jones is having a very good year, yet it's doubtful he'll finish in the Top 3 of the B&F. Vince, Viney and Hogan will probably poll more than NJ, TMc would've go a cr@p load of votes early on, and Cross and Brayshaw will be getting regular votes too. We're on our way. Thank Christ! (Aka Paul Roos)

None better than when he gave his brother a kiss on the cheek.

Delistings/trades at end of the season
The Chazz replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
While I don't think we would trade Tommy, WTF has Oscar got to do with any of this, Redleg? Far from some of your best work. -
I rarely post on the "Post Match" threads, but need to bring something to everyone's attention... Did any of you see or hear the bloke watching the game continually roaring out vulgar language? He was wearing a Melbourne jumper, he was threatening to cause harm to not only himself, but a number of his own "flesh and blood" Demon players, as well as some of the officiators too. The stuff coming out of his mouth was something you've probably never heard before. He was also throwing beer all around the place. Quite simply, he was a grub, and was bloody embarrassing. If you did see this man, I have two things to say to you; 1. I'm sorry. 2. What were you doing looking through my windows? I didn't go to the game, thank Christ.

Brisbane Lions Consider Asking for Priority Picks
The Chazz replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm all for them getting one this year. In what is deemed the weakest draft in over a decade, I'd love to see them get an end of first round pick to clog their list up even further! (FWIW - I don't really think they should get one). -
Can we keep the religious talk in the "Melbourne FC to target an A+ midfielder" thread please.

Listen to a majority of Roos' pressers, in particular when we were going through that run of injuries. JKH's name is mentioned most times when he talks about important players being out (along with Kent's name). Roos also didn't have him spend much time at Casey after returning from injury. In regards to his play, I watch him probably closer than any of our players. His positioning is very good, and will only get better the more games he plays in the seniors. I might have mentioned this earlier in the year, but I can see JKH being one of those players that only needs low teens possessions and have a real impact. All that said, we all look at the game from different angles, and while I see a lot of positives with him, clearly others don't. I'm satisfied with what I am seeing.

In - Grimes Out - Stretch If Roos thinks someone else needs a rest, then Toumpas comes in. In regards to JKH, Roos loves, loves, loves him. I can't really see him getting dropped. The thing I love about JKH is his positioning. He's a bit like Jeffy in that he knows exactly where to run to, and where the ball is going to fall. We took a lot of contested marks on the weekend, which dries up the supply for the likes of JKH. Jeffy has purchased the land at Hogan's feet, so this is basically a no-fly zone for JKH. If we can carry a "passenger" at the moment, I think JKH is it. He's only an ounce of luck from tearing a game a new one, and will be learning far more from playing in the seniors (especially seeing first hand what Jeffy does).

I wonder if the likes of Jamar, Grimes and Toumpas are being kept at Casey to keep them fresh for the last 4 or 5 senior games, so that as soon as the younger guys drop off, we'll have proven players (proven, not superstars) all refreshed so that we don't drop off too much. Same as timing when Hunt may debut, although based on his stats on the weekend, he didn't lay one tackle. Chances are what I have written above makes no sense at all - it makes perfect sense in my head. Nb. I could be reading too much in to it, and that those players are just not good enough to crack the senior side!

Melbourne FC to 'target an A+ midfielder'.

Cale? I read he's having another crack at the big league... -
Can I suggest when you're down in Melbourne with him that you take him to the Richmond Footy Club so they can have a look at it. Their medical staff see things the average medico doesn't...

Are we seeing Geelongs culture crumbling?
The Chazz replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just throwing it out there, but am I the only one that wouldn't be overly excited about chasing Motlop? I watch him very closely. He's the type of player that could get us in to a final, but wouldn't win one for us. I know some would take that in an instance. Feast away...!!! -

Does Hawthorn need to decide if they are a Melbourne-based team or a Tasmanian team? -
So, are you saying what we saw three weeks ago against Geelong was a once-off?

Just wondering when this has backfired for us in the past? Without knowing facts, I would think our use of the Rookie List has probably been one of the most successful in the league. Given its very hit and miss with the RL, with more misses for most, we've certainly had our share of hits.
-
To think that if we kept Pick 2, we wouldn't have Tyson and/or Salem.
-
He was compromising the quality of our team by playing him in the backline, thus reducing his trade value. When Kent, Salem, Petracca and JKH are fit/uninjured, where does Howe play? Why do you think we are so keen to get Garland's signature? He can play the backline role that Howe has played in the past.

Apologies for the error. Roos was, however, instrumental in getting the best deal possible for Sylvia. While this article suggests differently, Roos never had any intentions of keeping Sylvia... http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2013-09-06/i-cant-wait-to-start-roos Then, after Sylvia announced he was leaving, Roos all but confirms it during this piece... http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-03/sylvia-to-join-dockers Roos was successful in getting maximum value for Frawley. He played him in the forward line to show an extra "element" of his game. Realistically, he got him out of the back line so he (Roos) had close to a full season of trialling other players that were going to be at the club for the next period of time. Sure, we had Clark and Dawes injured so we needed a KPF, but why didn't he play Dunn there for the season? He's a known goal kicker (has kicked 95 from 151 games). From memory, Dunn played a few quarters here and there early in the season, but Roos knew the defensive structure going forward, and that didn't include Frawley. Now, we are seeing the same thing with Howe. Started the year down back, but has had an inconsistent start to the year - not great considering he's playing in the RPFC's "Easiest Position on the Ground". He was shifted forward against Geelong, due partly because of our lack of forwards for that game. Saturday night he stayed forward, even tough we had Hogan, Dawes and Spencer/Gawn. I'm tipping Howe won't get dropped this week, as it's a great opportunity for him to play against an out of form team. I think Spencer will be dropped, and JKH to come in to play HFF, giving Howe a bit more room up forward to fly for marks. I think they will bring in Fitzpatrick to play back/2nd ruck, most likely on Daniher. I don't care if some will say that I'm reading too much in to it (the Howe/Roos/trade situation), and will happily admit I was wrong if it doesn't turn out that way. But at this stage, I haven't seen anything to suggest that I'm off the mark, and I've been watching this for more than just this season.

My anger eased after he got injured. Since we beat them the other week, I now have the DILLIGAF attitude...
-
Why? Roos successfully did it with Sylvia.
-
Yeah, I was trying to value him as a late 2nd rounder, so his range would probably be closer to the pick 35 mark. Given Vince cost us pick 23, I think the 35-40 range would be more accurate for Howe. From that, if someone were to offer us something in that 15-25 range, that we could then use for another midfielder, then we have to seriously consider it. If we were able to package Howe and our 2nd rounder (approx. pick 25), for Coniglio and their 3rd rounder, it might be something that GWS would consider. (Nb. I don't know enough about Treloar to comment on a deal to get him). Jeezus, I'm starting to sound like Olisik. Someone slap me, please.

P-man, I'm as critical as most regarding Howe (have been since before this season if you go through my old posts), but from memory I haven't once said he's a poor footballer. My point is that he will likely bring us a return that is above his worth. If we were talking draft pick value, I'd estimate his value to be in the range of pick 40-50. If someone wants to offer us something in the range of pick 15-25, then we will absolutely consider it. As I've said many times, Howe has the best trade value on our list, and for us to improve, it makes sense to use him in any potential deal that would make our list better. If we can't get an upgrade from him, then we don't trade him, simple.
