Simon Goodwin Interview SEN (17/3/21)
Dr. Gonzo replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
I thought he was a character on Welcome Back Kotter -
Exactly, he's obviously not gonna give specific details on the base but if he could at least give us a timeline of when to expect further info that would be appreciated. It's extending into years now, if nothing is announced this year people will lose trust in Pert and the board. I'd like to see a couple of questions asked about membership - firstly, how many unique members have MFC had over the last 5 years. And secondly, other than trying to re-sign lapsed members what strategies does the club have in place to increase membership and get us to the 75k target the board have set themselves by 2023?
-
Exactly though channel 7 wouldn't have liked it.
-
We got almost 40k vs GWS r23 2018 and almost 40k vs Port R1 2019. We usually get about 27k vs Freo but with it being the first game many can go to for 18 months and being a sunny 27 degrees I would be disappointed if we didn't get around 35k at least. And stuff Docklands, MCG is our home that's where we play. The Bombers have a problem that's their bad luck for signing up with Docklands 20 years ago.

AFL Memberships with MFC club support count as an MFC GA Membership and the club receives the equivalent cost of a GA Membership from the AFL.
-
Gil too scared to upset Clarkson and Simpson, too busy trying to please everyone
-
Yeah I know but don't think my folks will have one - it's all good I ended up just screenshotting the tickets and sending them via messenger
-
Much harder to distribute to family though
-
Did you get the actual tickets via SMS - my SMS just sent me a link to the ticketek app where the tickets are stored
-
Mate I'm in the AFL reserve as well and I reckon we'll have a bay each to ourselves - should be plenty of seats around that you can move to
-
Hopefully he can recreate this for us on the last Saturday at the G in 2021 "Demonland - YOU WERE WRONG" ?
-
runs in the family too

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Dr. Gonzo replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
To be fair TMac had about a year and a half of solid work as a key forward before dropping off a cliff (remember his 2017 heroics in Perth?) And they would be within their rights to think Weideman would mature and come on, I think he actually has started to but has been battling injury since mid-2019 and had to work as the sole key forward for much of 2020. I have faith in Weid. -
Gil is a squib, terrible leader. Too busy trying to please everyone, no vision or direction.

Making Their Mark - Amazon Prime Documentary
Dr. Gonzo replied to At the break of Gawn's topic in Melbourne Demons
He struggled but the support around him was non-existent. Felt sorry for him, Cameron is useless and did nothing to help him only destroyed his confidence even more and called him out in front of the players/leadership group. -
Making Their Mark - Amazon Prime Documentary
Dr. Gonzo replied to At the break of Gawn's topic in Melbourne Demons
I thought it was a good watch, 1st episode was boring but picked up once the focus was on footy rather than covid. I would be very interested to see MFC as a subject for one of these as a comparison to see how they all operate in comparison to other clubs. I thought Sloane, Betts, Nicks and Dew came off looking really good. NicNat & Simpson were OK Cameron and Coniglio were a disaster. I can see why Roos wanted Dew as his first choice as successor, he's going to be a ripper for the Suns. -
Yep and every club talks about "learnings" too which was evident watching the Marking Their Mark doco on Amazon
-
Are those clearance numbers totals or differentials?
-
You'll always be needed od, you're a red and blue diehard like the rest of us
-
That's true although Max should be able to do his work around the ground with inexperienced opposition. Of course we thought the same in 2019 vs Port and look how that turned out. Hopefully we're ready this time in case the Dockers decide to get stuck into Max.
-
That's fair enough, I see a membership as more than just a season ticket though. As long as I support the Demons I'll continue to be a member, if I ever decide not to renew it would mean I no longer support the club.
-
Our competitors have 100k members. Yes, they will still need your support.

Pretty interesting thread on the Freo BF board. Seems were both looking at same issues with our teams heading into round 1, namely key forwards/forward line. https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/changes-rnd-1-vs-demons.1257077/ Maxy SHOULD dominate in the ruck then it's gonna come down to a battle of the midfields I think.

How does a kid whose dad played senior footy for a number of years qualify as an Academy pick? Similar to Blakey with the Swans it's an absolute joke. A lot of the kids who qualify for these academues are just typical kids who love footy and have the same chance as every other kid. Look at the one Collingwood drafted last year (Reef McInnes) only qualifies cos his mum was born overseas but his dad? He played with Oakleigh Chargers, where do the academies come into it? It's a joke and the only reason they were bought in was because the Vic clubs started whinging about the northern academies. Instead of fixing those they extend it across the comp! Makes the competition a joke when the draft is now compromised every year. As an example I was born in Australia, grew up watching and playing footy from 5 years old - yet my kids would qualify for these NGAs because my wife was born in the Philippines. It's a joke.

2 sets of twins!! Geez mate congratulations and good luck! Can you renew/sign up online? Cuts to staff would've definitely impacted membership Dept might be easier to go through the website?
