  1. I wouldn't be surprised if this was suggested by Jackson in the 'chat' he conducted with Craig. Even if you don't want the top job, Neil, at least make noises as though you do. It'd be clever management from Jackson.
  2. I heard Jon Ralph report this on Fox Footy's post game show a few weeks ago.
  3. No we won't. There'll still be some that won't commit until we look like playing finals. That's how it always happens. But I think we could break our membership record IF Roos came on board and IF we sign one or two big names over summer. We all know it's about renewing the faith. At the top of 2010 we were heading in the right direction, but some still didn't sign on because we weren't quite ready to make finals. Incidentally, I remember a game in I think it was '04, the game where Ashley Sampi took that hanger on the 'G. We had 36,000 attend that game. 5,000 may have been Eagles, a little more perhaps. We were up and about during those years. We didn't have the "members", but we had the support. We were playing finals consistently. I think we could hit 40,000-42,000 members if we get to that level again. I think it's a little fanciful to suggest we'd smash 40,000 next year though. The MFC and AFL propaganda machines can worker wonders though.
  4. I think the AFL will be happy to cover the FD bill. If we get the best coach in place, a great decision maker at the top (tick) and the FD structure right, with the best people in those positions, the wheel will start to turn. For the AFL this means: more competitive efforts from the MFC, increased membership for the MFC, increased matchday attendances and exciting games of football for their broadcasters. It makes sense and as WYL says, it's good governance.
  5. I wasn't. We needed an experienced coach. I was however willing to give Neeld last year to experiment with the list, on the assumption we would be competitive this year.
  6. Malcolm Blight anyone? We have to be sure he is in this 100 per cent. Fortunately, Roos says as much himself in those quotes.
  7. I apparently missed this today: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/jeff-kennett-says-afl-doesn8217t-want-him-to-become-melbourne8217s-president/story-fni5f91a-1226665063831 As far as I was aware he would make a statement on Tuesday, but obviously Neeld's sacking must have forced his hand to speak on radio today. Seems like a statement on Tuesday would now be redundant.
  8. I've never seen a more obvious case of Narcissistic Personality Disorder than Warwick Capper.
  9. That would make some sense, considering Neeld seemed to ease his hard nosed approach a fraction post Schwab "stepping down".
  10. Moloney is one move Neeld appears to have got right. We'll never know what went on behind closed doors though. His approach on the whole seems to have been too brash. Once again, we can only ever know by watching the effort on the field and at no point (except Round 10 v Essendon 2012) was our effort AFL standard.
  11. He took a quantum of responsibility, but not enough. At not one point did he consider or note what the supporters have had to endure as a result of his past two failures.
  12. As for Neeld, I think he's as stubborn as a mule and lacks emotional intelligence. There's a bit of an ego in there too. He was never going to dump on the club tonight. That would have been committing industry suicide. "All class". Lol.
  13. [censored] off, Gary. Said that G Healy is the best man to appoint the next coach with Jackson. You mean the guy that helped you appoint Bailey? Lyon's decision making is abhorrent. I'm glad he won't have anything to do with it. Also, the way he avoided a combative, but at the same time honest question from Wilson. She asked whether Lyon had done due diligence in the search for the last candidate. No, you didn't Gary. If you want something you have to really want it. To use an old adage, 'no stone left unturned'. Don't let him near any decision making again. Sprout support or criticism from the media, but don't go inside the club, you've no idea.
  14. McLardy stepped down. It was his board that appointed Neeld. He fell on his sword. Jackson handed Neeld his marching orders and rightly so. Neeld may have been given carte blanche by the board and administration, but that doesn't mean the only way of handling the situation was to belittle or deal with players in a manner unbecoming. This backfired, resulting in a potential lack of "buy in" from them in turn. Neeld's appointment was a mistake. They should have appointed an experienced coach, just as they must this time around. However, this time must start with us conducting a thorough canvass or at least approaching our top candidates directly and unequivocally. Throw the kitchen sink at the right man. We have the AFL's support and Jackson will make all the important decisions. It's Jackson's carte blanche that I care about now. Get behind him. He is experienced and knows what a functioning football club looks like. The aim is a healthy Melbourne Football Club. We all want the same thing here. Whilst its dangerous to put our faith in one person (we love doing that at Melbourne), for the moment I trust with the AFL's backing, Jackson will right the wrong of his predecessors.
  15. I believe you're being pedantic, Ben. I will rephrase. It vindicates Neeld's decision to axe him from the leadership group. He is clearly not leadership material. I couldn't be bothered mounting an argument for his trading again. That's been done to death, as I guess has his lack of leadership.
  16. I enjoyed that bit too, DemonWA.
  17. Fair enough, WYL. He was certainly right on the Scully saga, though the way he dealt with it was reasonably counterproductive.
  18. If you think the board have the final say on this, it might be worth thinking again. PJ is clearly pulling all the strings. I just hope nepotism doesn't come into his decision for coach like it did with Knights. I can't see him making that mistake again though.
  19. See I'd prefer him to stay outside of the club. He can push the success from his media position IMO. I think it's pretty [censored] poor of Moloney, despite not caring what he does on the footy field anymore. He continues to be an ass off it though.
  20. I believe Kennett will make a statement tomorrow.
  21. It's not earth shattering Ben, but certainly only vindicates Neeld's list management decision. Mind boggling stupid by Moloney. I reckon I coach more mature kids than him. Think before you post, Moloney. Ridiculous human being.
  22. I reckon Neeld was always going during the bye. The decision was only made officially by the board on Friday, but it was always the most sensible time to sack him. I would have approached the AFL at the start of last week and then sacked Neeld at the end of the week, but this way works as well.
  23. He clearly loves the club, but he's not the brightest bloke. Prime example, he essentially backed Moloney's Instagram picture, instead of bemoaning it like he rightly should have. Loved him as a player, but is very base level.
