  1. From the little that I've seen of Luke, I'd compare him more to a Sylvia or Chapman. Not overly tall, but strong hands, booming kick, can roam across half forward or even in the midfield. A toughness that I'd liken to both the former as well. I'm looking forward to seeing him in a Melbourne jumper.
  2. Well done, Trenners, you little gun.
  3. Yeah. Hawkins strikes me as a non versatile player. His only position is inside forward 50 and in this day and age, the trend of forwards is mobility and flexibility. Hawkins seems to have little of either.
  4. Before our rebuilding phase we had the wood over North. We'd beat them every time. It's only since we've been trying youngsters and testing the waters that we've been beaten by them. We didn't want to beat them last year. It is incredibly difficult to measure ourselves against the Roos. The focus of the last few seasons hasn't necessarily been winning, but playing the kids and trying things out. It's an understatement, that has been mentioned a couple of times already in this thread, but if we play with the fluidity of Saturday night and confidence, we'll easily account for them. If we go into our shells and turn the ball over they may hurt us. They do have an up and coming midfield and I think people on here underrate them, but ours should still be too strong. As long as Jamar wins the hit outs.
  5. I think I'd prefer to let Morton play on a Brennan, because at least you know he'll drift forward and make the most of his opportunities (ie kick goals). I think back to the Sydney game in Canberra last year and Morton tagged Goodes. The best game I've seen him play. Completely blanketed him.
  6. Yeah, I caught the train Rounds 2,3 and 4.
  7. I sent a comment into the journo who wrote it, pointing out all the errors and told them to ensure proof reading, before publishing. I've now been blocked on the Herald Sun website. Lucky, I suppose.
  8. Measure expectations. There's no way we'll make the top 4. We're a young side and no matter what we do, parting of our learning will involve ups and downs. All we can ask of them is to be as consistent as possible and maintain realistic goals. I sense that Bailey will be the perfect coach to quell any big heads.
  9. I would consider Riewoldt a power forward, but certainly in a different sense to a Jon Brown. Over the next decade power forwards will generally be of Riewoldt and Watts' build, in order to compete in the new football order. Players must be able to play different positions if a team requires them (ie high up the ground, towards centre wing and centre half forward and in the goal square and even in the midfield occasionally). Players like Franklin and Pavlich have set this benchmark, one that I can see Watts eventually being able to play. He may not have the bulk of a Pavlich, but with time, Watts may well. As for this year, certainly, Watts won't be dominating. I expect that after 40 to 50 games and that'll take at least this season or the next.
  10. Jordan Gysberts, Luke Tapscott and I've probably forgotten someone. And I'd say, the same team that beat RIchmond and Brisbane deserves to walk out against the Roos next week.
  11. Porplyzia took a similar mark the night before, so at least from that perspective it was consistent.
  12. Firstly the umpire got in their way and then had his back turned to the play, but somehow managed to pluck a free kick.
  13. I'm generally as one-eyed as they come, but I've gotta say that I knew the umpire would pay that. Jack made no attempt to get rid of it, but usually they don't pay those in the back half. Obviously, the question is did he have prior, at the time I thought he did, but having not seen the replay, I have little to go on but my recollection. All that said, it shouldn't have been paid, particularly as there was a similar free kick not paid to us at the beginning of the fourth.
  14. Yeah, that's where we parked on Saturday night. It was the first time we've parked there this year and it's gone up another $5 from last year.
  15. You could be describing Geelong too. It is interesting. We've certainly got a similar game plan to them. I think our advantage over a Geelong (in the long run) will come when Watts comes in to dominate. Geelong run and spread very much as we did on Saturday night. They don't have a particularly efficient power forward, but this is the clear advantage we much potentially have. It'll be interesting to see how we combat whatever challenges are thrown at this game plan.
  16. I can't choose. I would be happy with about 12 different numbers, I've got so many favourite players at the moment.
  17. The parking at the MCG is beginning to get ridiculous. I was turned away in Round 1, when there was hardly a car in the bloody place. They're hopeless. I ended up just copping a $117 parking ticket. In the end it wasn't worth it that week.
  18. Interesting this, I didn't see it, but McGrath certainly heard footsteps on half back at one stage.
  19. Agreed. I still remember a game against Port Adelaide a couple of seasons ago, when only 9,000 attended, but that day we sounded like 60,000.
  20. I sit in the MCC and sometimes find myself frustrated with lack of noise, but the MCC always have the loudest cheers at the ground. With regards to the crowd, it was a fantastic surprise to see the 36,000 number up on the board and about 16,000 more than I expected or thought were there. I must say though, there were a lot of Brisbane people (in fact we were outnumbered where we were) and then there were 6,000 international students. I would have said there was between 8,000 to 10,000 Brisbane people, but still a good turn out on a wet ordinary night. It is good to see all the Melbourne "supporters" back. It was about half full Saturday night in the Kaspersky seating and by the end of the season and next, I hope we have them full. When we're doing well, both wings are quite full too. We can get 40,000 members with Jimmy's board in place next season, providing we reach 8 to 10 wins and hold onto all our young talent.
  21. I don't recall Garland being effective up forward, but I do consider him in the top two defenders at the club. I love Jared, but he's just going to have to wait his turn. As long as he keeps working hard and apparently dominating, he'll eventually get a recall.
  22. I just asked him if he had a house or wife anymore. That was good enough for me. Admittedly, there it is all a bit too easy though.

  24. I see where you're coming from mate, but I think he's at the stage where AFL level is the best place to learn this. He'll gain confidence from his rucking performances and hopefully that will flow onto his forward work.
  25. My old man texted me to say that King said we'd be premiers within 4 to 6 years. Did he say anything else?
