  1. I understand where you're coming from WYL, but the higher the draft pick, the less likely you are to stuff it up.
  2. We won't win too many games in the next decade with our current midfield. Your kids won't ever support this current midfield in ten years time. I know it's failed before, but this draft is paramount and receiving pole position will more than likely set us up for the next decade or more. One of my professions is sports coaching. I was coaching yesterday at a school who had their footy jumper day. We had a group of 22 kids. Not one of them was Melbourne. This is an affluent school too. That trend will continue unless we draft quality mids, like we've never seen in my twenty-five year life. I know it seems hopeless now, but it's really not as bad as it may seem. Fix the midfield over the next year or so, acquire another tall forward to help out Clark and we're well on our way.
  3. See ya later, Colin. If I toddled around like you did on Etihad the other day, and picked up a large pay-cheque at the end of it, I'd be ashamed.
  4. He's had a fantastic year. Deserves all the praise he receives at the moment. I'll admit I was wrong. I didn't think he had another gear up his sleeve, but he's certainly blown that notion out of the water.
  5. I don't have 100% faith in him. I also think it's too soon for some supporters to be calling for his head. Who's he got to work with? Seriously, weakest midfield in the competition and not one forward capable of kicking consistent bags of goals (without Clark). That said, it is highly worrying that he cannot get the players to focus on game day. Yes, there are obvious issues with fitness. It's harder for players to run out games. But that's no excuse for not turning up in first quarters. If I'm going to throw stones at both sides, I'd say he also has a very young list he's dealing with and immature teams struggle with consistency, and focus. It seems difficult to believe that Bailey and our lack of FD resources had our players in such physically poor shape that it would take two pre-seasons to turn it all around. I pin hope (the very thing everyone must cling onto in times like this) on drafting this year, trading and further experience into the players we have, and trust that the tide will begin to turn somewhere during season 2013.
  6. Jesus, I'd take Cloke every day of the year over Stanton. Absolute spud Stanton. He's had one decent season in what, ten?
  7. Not sure I agree with all of this, OD. If Carlton were still the organisation that you suggest they would have sought a player to replace Fevola three years ago. They didn't. They haven't and they won't get Cloke either.
  8. Olyphant's even better in Justified.
  9. So much dead wood. Spencer showed something today (he's showed something well before Jamar ever showed anything), while even though Magner is slow and lacks decent disposal, at least he plays for the jumper. More than could be said for quite a few others. Agree with the rest however. I'd add question marks next to Bartram, Petterd, Morton and Sylvia. The latter three I'd seek a trade and see what we can get.
  10. Agree on comments about Jordie's kicking. Love his endeavour, but his kicking is barely VFL standard. Bartram as well. Meanwhile, McDonald's lucky he's turned into a really promising young defender, because his kicking is atrocious.
  11. Is Nicholson or McKenzie the worst kick in our side? Then there's Bartram...hmm. All we've done over the past few years (besides high draft picks and the occasional win - ie Tom McDonald) is recruit C graders who are not up to AFL footy. Meanwhile, some of the "chases" in this last quarter have been country league standard. [censored] pathetic.
  12. Possibly the worst commentary display I can remember. An embarrassing bunch. Bit like our footy team.
  13. Good boy, Jeremy. Liked how Tappy stood up for him and then stood over the Brisbane bloke.
  14. Also calls Trengove Trengrove. Jesus he's an infuriating spazadonis.
  15. I think the game plan is being taken out of context a little bit here though. Unless there is a better option in the corridor a team should always kick down the lines. You get killed on the corridor turn overs these days. Yes, we're getting killed anyway, but I'd much prefer to instil a thoughtful and disciplined set of team rules. We simply don't have any class in the midfield. The most important position on the ground. We need leg speed there and good decision makers with good skills. Blah, blah, blah. We know it all.
  16. Except Howe makes simple horrendous decisions a lot of the time. His kick into the middle was daft to say the least.
  17. Love Magner's attitude, but very ordinary footballer.
  18. They can't afford to win against Brisbane, because we'll win games in Melbourne, even without Mitch.
  19. I cannot recall a more obvious display of tanking since against Richmond. Not at all subtle.
  20. I Tweeted Emma Q this a few weeks back. All she could proffer was his knee injury. An overpaid log though, as is Warnock. The latter had some good tapouts tonight, but very ordinary as a footballer.
  21. If Patton knows there's money and can see a way of returning home to a solid club (yes, we'll have to make a climb up the ladder), it's just a matter of a key position player exchange and potentially a first round pick. Whoever fails to hold down a KP spot come Round 22 next year would be on the table. I'm thinking it could be one of our copious KPDs. If a player wants to leave and refuse to sign a contract, there's not much an AFL club can do. It couldn't happen to a grubbier bunch.
  22. Boak's another Sylvia. Got potential, has delivered a couple of times, but for a player his age doesn't impact games regularly enough. No thanks. Go one of the kids. Really, Cloke and say a player of Sewell's calibre would be the only players I'd target for season 2013.
  23. I wouldn't go for Cameron as I've said. I'd go Patton. And if we just sit back and say it's all too hard, we'll never get anywhere. I agree we have to be fastidious about the players we target, but once we set our sights on someone, we should go at them hammer and tong. This would include getting in the ear of Patton's manager.
