  1. one or two more to end the quarter.
  2. Melbourne stop drafting St Kilda reject challenge.
  3. this is pathetic. our forward craft is so bad. it has been all year.
  4. Yeah this isn't Carlton playing well. We are ball watching.
  5. Mckay, Pittonet and Dekonning all with goals in wet conditions. You can't excuse. You just can't. Carlton have barely gotten out of second gear. That was a clinic in wet weather football.
  6. Nah, not good enough. We are going forward and the ball is being contested and dropped to the ground where Blues are mopping it up. Zero pressure. We miss Spargo in games like this. Very very poor.
  7. Carlton is seriously average but we look worse tonight.
  8. You can track it all back to when Melbourne was the envy of the league in the 60s. Working class supporters in Collingwood, Richmond, in the West, South East etc used to despise the "toffs" of Melbourne. Some in the media would have been brought up to have a lingering bitterness aimed at Melbourne. Where Collingwood and Carlton supporters genuinely hate each other and have a genuine rivalry, Melbourne is hated by those same supporters purely in a historically class-divided sense. It's a sort of "eat the rich" narrative. It's less directed at the club itself and more at what the club symbolises which traditionally has been the, shall we say, more fortuate suppoer demographics. Love or hate him it's very important we have the likes of Gary Lyon to flex for us.
  9. The conversation is aimed at the wrong direction in my view. It's aiming a feel good fantasy goal of all men all of a sudden never ever physically assaulting a woman. It's simplistic. There are a few layers. I actually don't think education cuts it because the household dynamics are so unpredictable. 1. Men have testosterone running through their veins. Combine this with a mental health crisis and you have a ticking time bomb. I have managed young men and women for years. I've worked on psychological work safety panels for more than a decade. Men are consistently both the best and worst performers. They are consistently the best and worst people to be around. And they are also consistently the most unpredictable. In my experience socio-economic status doesn't change this much. 2. Men commit suicide, and are victims of assault at a much higher rate than women. This is a fact. People dismiss this. I am not saying it as a "YEAH BUT" but rather as a factor to consider when trying to address the issue of domestic violence. Clearly there is correlation. 3. From a young age we are now stifling young boys by treating their masculinity - traditionally and biologically - as a societal threat. There is a reason why boys develop slower than girls and why men don't tend to hit their career peak until much later. 4. The traditional household has changed. The role of the mother and father has shifted. Traditionally, boys were nurtured by the mother, and "roughed up" by the father. By roughed up I don't mean that in a negative way. I mean rough play. Traditional roles are dismissed these days. Both parents work full time. The father nurtures. Most fathers here I bet will admit it's harder to comfort your kids than it is for their mother to no matter how we try. There is a biological bond that we are unnaturally trying to adjust and change. 5. We have created a narrative that the world *should* be safe. Yes of course it should be, but it's not. We are fixated on addressing the issue by pointing the finger at men and saying "fix it". My response to that is that I will not stand for my son ever laying a finger on a woman. But I will also say that there is evil out there. Protect yourself. Yes you should be able to walk alone at night and be safe. But that doesn't mean you will be. We need to educate on self defense. Because as a man I will say that men can be pretty bad. We're delusional to think we can change that short of a completely lobotomised male population.
  10. McAdams, Bowey in Billings, Woey out. Although Wowoedin was solid last night.
  11. Man, Langdon gets caught ball watching too much.
  12. Expected score... Melbourne - 67 Geelong - 36 How depressing.
  13. Disco Turner last week: Saturday Night Fever Disco Turner this week: Dirty Dancing Havana Nights
  14. I'm having 'Nam flashbacks to the 2023 semi final.
  15. I admire that Goodwin has changed things up and bringing back chaos ball but I'm not sure we have the pace or firepower to beat Geelong like this. We need to slow it down and keep possession.
  16. JHF has real Dangerfield vibes about him. And not from a playing perspective. From a "Has an opinion and wants to share it" perspective.
  17. What if Seinfeld was set in Melbourne? Kramer: "I got tickets to the game, Jerry!" George: "To the ANZAC Day game?" Jerry: "Thomastown vs Whittlesea. He only watches local leagues." Kramer: "It's more real."
  18. tbh I'd rather beat wannabe Carlton in 2 weeks than Geelong. The Cats won't stay healthy all year. Hope we meet them in finals. But I don't think we match up particularly well against either Geelong or Carlton. Gonna be a tough fortnight. Carlton is staring down the barrel of 3 games in 12 days when they face us. They've got Collingwood next Friday and then us on Thursday. We'll be coming off a 5 day break but our third game in 15 days. I reckon we'll pump Carlton. Can't see us getting near Geelong though.
  19. As bad as it is seeing Carlton, Collingwood win, they beat up top 4 contenders which evens the ledger. I reckon the top 8 and even top 10 is gonna be super close this year. Lots of teams winning 4-5 in a row and also losing 2-3 in a row. I reckon 3 games max separating 1st and 8th. Then it will come down to whichever team plays the best finals football. We have really struggled in past years, I reckon Carlton and Brisbane will go very deep. Everyone talks about GWS, they haven't done anything yet. We have looked very good this year but our games vs Geelong and Carlton will tell us everything.
  20. Most games involving either Port or Freo generally are.
  21. Didn't realise this. No way he is still coaching if they don't win in 2016.
  22. How could you not? Brisbane absolutely smoked and outbodied us everywhere all night. We were in Adelaide for two weeks, two very tough games, are completely banged up, lost Salem, a few kids running around, and we comprehensively beat them in the last quarter. It's a huge positive how they ran out the game because that could well have been a 10-15 goal loss the way it was tracking. Brisbane looked set to open the flood gates all evening and we never let them. Richmond lost by 8-10 goals multiple times in their flag winning years. Teams struggle to beat us by 4 goals despite domination. You just have to take a positive from that given how we've started the year. Listening to Max on Channel 7 after the game yesterday, he was so harsh on himself and the team. It seriously looked like they'd lost the Grand Final. Which is great that it impacts them so much but people are slitting their wrists over a 4 goal loss against a genuine premiership contender. Not saying there aren't concerns but I've never felt so indifferent about a loss before. Play like that against Richmond and I'll eat my words.
  23. Yeah it was tough to watch but we defended well considering. I mean, we kicked 5.5 in the last quarter. If that's 8.2 we almost steal the win lol My point is that our worst looks really bad because our best is so good. But tonight really wasn't that bad. If I'm Brisbane I'd be pretty [censored] about that last quarter especially given we were a man down and came from a double trip in Adelaide and without a bye yet. We honestly soldiered on until the end. It's a long season.
  24. I honestly don't even think we were that bad. We were slow and battered and Brisbane absolutely came out firing. If our worst equates to a 22 point loss against a full strength Brisbane then I'll take that. Richmond and Collingwood both had far worse outings in their Premiership winning years.
