He's the type we need, but maybe not the player we need.

Well, we always knew these three were on the chopping block. I'm glad we got Grimes to his 100th at least. Now we just need to hope we get some good pace and disposal into the club in their place. In particular the disposal, which is something all three lacked.

We have Dandenong. It's up to us to put in the work, but there's talent to be had there. In particular, the club should put some time and effort into developing the African kids in the area. Dandenong has a growing population of Sudanese refugees and their children. If we were to put in the time and effort to work with the community and develop an academy presence there it would pay off down the track.

I've only seen him a couple of times, but I really liked the way he played. I remember comparing him to Bob Murphy at one point. Obviously his career has stalled under Cameron up at GWS, but the guy has skills and can run and we need both of those attributes. I wouldn't be offering a high pick, but I think he's certainly worth making a play for. The fact that Collingwood are said to be into him is also a good reason. Anything to stuff up one of their trades or drive the price up on them.

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
RalphiusMaximus replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
Gaff + their first round pick? Probably not enough given how high that pick is. -
Most likely. He was a bearded scruffy blonde dude.
-
More importantly, who was the WAG sitting two seats to Dangers left?
-
I notice they don't mention Melbourne much in the write-up for each round.
-
Hope they are both into Footy. First Brother and Sister combo to be Father/Child picked by one club. :D

When did she get that old?

FCC are gonna be [censored] after building that new pavilion and function centre at the ground.

No longer exist or relegated to playing in a lower league? Surely they haven't simply folded and stopped playing at all levels?

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - TIM SMITH
RalphiusMaximus replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
He's certainly improved his consistency. I love his defensive pressure and he's always been able to take a big mark. I agree it couldn't hurt to bring him in and see if he can take another step. He's in the right age bracket and importantly he's a good kick which we desperately need. -

THIS is the big issue and why we need an answer from Jesse. It's not just about his future, or whether he is obliged to give a response before his contract is up, it's about the club being able to plan their moves during trade week. If he can't do the decent thing and let the club know what pieces they are playing with, then the club needs to make the call for him. -
Other clubs playing "Hell's Bells" pre-bounce...annoying or not?
RalphiusMaximus replied to P-man's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm a fan of Hell's Bells. I just wish they didn't play the club song as we went through the banner. It should be saved for when we win. -

You mentioned youself seven times and the club only once. I think that says it all really. -

It's annoying and pathetic. We should mock them mercilesly whenever they do this. -

RalphiusMaximus replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm seeing a number of posts along the lines that Jesse is under no obligation to either sign or signal his intentions until his contract has concluded next year. This is perfectly true. Likewise, if I came across a person horribly injured in the street I am under no obligation to provide assistance or even call for help. My point of course is that just because we are within our rights to do something does not mean that we should, or that is the right thing to do. Hogan is well aware of the importance his decision has to the club in planning their trades and drafting strategies. While he is indeed well within his rights to wait, the right thing to do, the act of integrity, is to give his club the information they need as quickly as possible. -
We've tagged a small forward from the u18s as some sort of zone selection or something. If he doesn't get drafted he goes to us as our final cat b rookie. Pretty sure the rumours of us being into Hibberd are solid. There have been a few rumours in the media about Vardy, but that seems to have tapered off. Last year one of the coaches said that we were done bringing in top end talent and our success would come from developing the players we now had. This would indicate a quiet trade period.

I'm a fan. Not getting a regular game at GWS is no crime given how much talent they have up there. I'd be thrilled if we could get him in.
-
Buckley's desperate. He's going to keep chasing any sort of fish he can in the hopes that they will turn his team around before Ed get's overruled and he's sacked. I never would have believed he could do such a poor job with such a professional outfit.

SEN today were saying that Brisbane have been shopping Rockliff around and nobody is biting. Sounds like we may be able to get a bargain there. I'm sure they'd prefer to keep their picks and move on an unwanted player...

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
RalphiusMaximus replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
People are making out that this is a recent thing. It's not. We've had contract offers in front of him for over a year and he's refused to consider them. SEVEN MONTHS AGO he told the club he would not consider their offer until after this season. He's had seven months to think about whether he wants to keep playing for Melbourne. It's not unreasonable to want an answer. -
SEN said today that Brisbane want to offload him but nobody was willing to take him off their hands. I know he's got some attitudpe problems, but that seems a bit much.
