  1. Pies are holding off the ball A LOT. None of them are being called. Also, we still can't deliver the ball to our forwards properly. It kills me to see us deliver free touches to their half backs.
  2. The male umpire is wearing black and white underwear. Shockingly one-sided.
  3. I'm just watching the replay and I can now say with certainty that the umpire stuffed up in giving the first 50m penalty and goal. The Melbourne player never crossed the mark, she only moved laterally to cover the opponent looping to her right for a hook-footed kick.
  4. They had an alternative umpire.
  5. Brisbane are ordinary. They scored one goal on their own today. The others were charity. As bad as we were, if that worthless umpire hadn't been at the ground we still beat them.
  6. It's not bad to play, but it's terrible for watching. They only have the one stand and it's almost always reserved for officials and players' families. The parking is a disgrace, the facilities are a joke and it takes an hour to get out again. If they are going to put games on there then either the club or the AFL need to put some money into upgrading the facilities and putting in proper stands.
  7. While we lack quality forwards, it was poor delivery and constantly kicking to the pocket that cost us. We had a missed set shot from about 20m out at one stage and late in the first quarter one of the mids had the wind at her back and declined the shot, instead looking to pass off and kicking into the Mark. Very wasteful play. On the other side, the umpire gave Brisbane three goals, two from those 50m penalties and one from a shocking free kick. I will admit that the second 50 was legitimate if harsh, but the first one and the free were terrible.
  8. No wind advantage anymore. We're showing all the signs of a Melbourne team. Poor hands, long aimless bombs forward and the ability to turn 3-0 numerical advantage into a stoppage. We've had all the play but utterly failed to use it. Brisbane have had a hand full of opportunities and nailed them.
  9. We failed dismally with the wind this quarter. 3 points. Should be at least 2goals up
  10. Windy... Not a day for footskills.
  11. Windy... Not a day for foothills.
  12. Arrived an hour early and to go two ovals over to get a park. It's a bit windy and we.might get a storm.
  13. It looks like everyone has responded to having two less mids the same way. They are playing a five-woman forward line and putting the other HFF into the midfield. This is creating five forwards against 6 backs, basically conceding the spare defender from the start. With most sides having limited skills at this point, it makes hitting a forward target much harder. It looks like every game had a really tight scrappy first quarter then one midfield got on top and started scoring. Seems that with the extra back, it's really hard to score without that midfield control. I do wonder if we'll see more even scorelines when the stronger sides play off or if the trend will continue.
  14. So far we have two vrry predictable results and one shocker. I never would have expected Collingwood to be that inept or Carlton to be able to score that freely. All winners are sitting at around 400%, so we need to go in hard against the Loins and really stick the boot in.
  15. Adelaide have lived up to expectations today. They hammered GWS. Chelsea had 16 and Erin Phillips had 15 and 3 goals 3 playing ruck. Very strong side. Meanwhile the Doggies are starting to dominate against Freo after an even first half. Freo are playing a genuine tagger on Blackburn and appear to have a Ballantyne clone as well.
  16. Guess I'll get there early.
  17. I thought it was free entry. Didn't know they were selling tickets.
  18. They locked the gates and Gill was out there apologising to people who couldn't get in.Of course, it's princess park, so not that big but they still had a great turnout. Carlton seem to have a plan that basically revolves around crashing into people and belting the ball forward. They also run in support really well, so if one gets tackled there's always a free outlet player behind them. They're very reliant on Vescio winning the loose ball once they get it up there. I suspect that Collingwood actually had better skills, but they weren't able to execute under the physical pressure and their reliance on Hope to kick goals was very apparent as Carlton got away with playing two or three defenders on her all night. That won't work against most sides.
  19. I may have sold Carlton short there. Their bash and crash style seems to translate well and is doing a good job of nullifying the skills of their opponents. It's also interesting to see that they are managing to double- and triple-team Hope and take her completely out of the game. You'd hope (no pun intended) that Collingwood would have a better structure than that, but they really do seem to just bomb it to her and wait for the star to do something amazing.
  20. I read that as us being the most likely destination if he did decide to come back to Vic. I could be wrong, but it sure sounded good to me.
  21. Selwood will still get his frees. The line will be something about how can you expect the umpires to spot a small difference in the midst of a pack of players. My answer to this would of course be "because they are professional umpires being paid to be able to spot things like that" but sadly the AFL has never taken tat approach.
  22. My concern isn't with his ability to spread but whether he will be able to keep up with his man defensively. We have repeatedly found ourselves struggling against sides who can outrun us and stream into the 50. If his man has a significant pace advantage then all they will do is jog him to the centre square, turn and sprint to the 50 and be the open man who gets a free possession and shot at goal. He needs to be able to cover this or he'll do more harm than good in the side.
  23. This sounds quite a lot like our Men's side. Crash in hard at the stoppage, knock the ball into space and outrun us on the outside. Did anyone note how Bri Davey did for Carlton?
  24. Sorry to keep beating a dead horse, but this should read "had the umpires not gifted them six goals from incorrect free kicks..."
  25. I feel it's worth pointing out at this point that Lamumba waited until after the trade and draft period to officially retire, thus denying us the opportunity to bring in another player to replace him. I'm pretty annoyed about that.
