How do you rate our trade period?
I think it's a bit of a Meh to be honest. Langdon for a second round pick is fine. Frost was an ok deal. I think we lost out a but on the gifting of extra low-round picks in the deals we made. I'm certainly not sold on giving up next year's first pick, although the draft looks like it will suck so maybe it's worth it. My big issue is that we went and got our two easy targets and then sat on our hands for the rest of the period. Maybe the press simply didn't hear about any attempts, but surely we should have been sniffing around trying to shake get in on Martin or Papley or trying to bring in a tall forward?

Sparrow, Jordan and Nietschke
I too like the look of Jordan. I think he'll take a little time to get his body ready for AFL, but he moves really well and looks to have good disposal. I suspect he's going to wind up one of those guys who just look smooth and have a little more time than they should.

Gun target - Key Forward recruit?
Posted this in the splitting the pick thread, but what about trying for Wright and Martin as a package. Wright in particular would be a nice addition and I've been wanting Martin for a while.

Splitting Draft Pick 3
I don't know if this has been floated before and can't be bothered reading 27 pages to find out. What would people think of Peter Wright and Jack Martin as a package? I have a feeling we need to use a first round pick this year, but if we sent picks 3 and 26 their way in exchange for Wright, Martin and 15?

Gun target - Key Forward recruit?
Cooked at 27? I think he might have a couple of games left in him.

Are we done now?
I wonder if we threw Stretch and pick three at GC for a player and a later first round pick, who would we be able to get? I know there were rumours around Stretch going there. A drop from third to fifteenth should warrant a pretty good player. Maybe convince Martin that his future is with us?

Gun target - Key Forward recruit?
I'm still hoping to hear O'Brien named. He's another very good runner, can take a mark and has kicked a bag against us. The Hawks are looking to shed some players to make room for another big play, so that could fit.

Why are the Saints so attractive?
It's all been said, but they have a bloody good coach in The Rat and they don't have any stars eating up cap space so there is plenty of money to throw at players to get them across. I don't know that they have what it takes to develop into a premiership side, but Ratten has a record of getting a team to play well above itself and they should play finals.

Tom Papley
I wouldn't give a top ten pick. The only reason Carlton are considering it is because Sydney don't want to trade.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ADAM TOMLINSON
Actually, Frost hasn't been told to look elsewhere. He's been told that if he wants more money that we've offered he will need to find it elsewhere.

Gun target - Key Forward recruit?
Might be a straight swap Frost for O'Brien?

He was a good defender but butchered his kicks and hurt us with turnovers.
-
Sam Murray
I'd take him as a (near) freeby. Has pace to burn. His kicking isn't any worse than 90% of our list. I remind you all that Bartram was a disgraceful kick, but he worked on it, learned his limits and became solid if not damaging.

Gun target - Key Forward recruit?
It's Tom Boyd, isn't it? He's decided he wants another shot.

So basically what we have here is another TMac with better disposal. He runs all day, can take a good mark and hits his targets. Not super fast, but not slow either. If he just roams the wing all day he'll give us pretty good value.

Do you actually understand Occam's Razor? I ask because your second last paragraph contains assumptions, and Occam's Razor states that (assuming a lack of evidence in favour of one explanation over the others) the explanation which requires the fewest assumptions is usually correct. Also, it is neither an argument in and of itself, a form of evidence nor a proof. It is simply a reasoning tool for use when you lack real evidence (which is admittedly the case with 99% of forum posts).

2019 Player Reviews: #5 Christian Petracca
Best thing about Track is that he makes scores happen. He may not get a disposal or credit for an assist, but a LOT of scores were caused by him crashing into people, tapping the ball out and generally wreaking havoc.

Hayden Young (Drafted by Fremantle)
I don't think he featured in the top results.

Jamie Elliott
I think he'll stay with the Pies. They'll give him a third year and talk up their flag chances. That plus staying with his friends plus better facilities...

Gun target - Key Forward recruit?
I'm a little annoyed we didn't make a play for Bruce. He's not a word-beater, but he'd fit in with our mobile talks. As it stands now, I wonder if it would be worth taking a punt on McBean? He has size, can pinch in the ruck and had a big season in the SANFL. At 25 he'd be ready to go right away and put some pressure on Weed to improve.

Hayden Young (Drafted by Fremantle)
Young topped the agility test at the combine. That's often a good indicator.

THE MYSTERY OF DRAFT PICK 3?
Exactly.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
Potentially a PR bonanza as well as an onfield star.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
Exactly. It kills me every year to see other clubs take a risk on highly talented players and getting great rewards while we play it safe and get good clubmen with great character who will do a solid job on the field but never set the game alight or win a match off their own boot. We need to find a way to get some serious elite talent into the club and he's a free hit that could turn into just that.

THE MYSTERY OF DRAFT PICK 3?
I really like the look of this kid. I think there's some massive upside there. I'm not sure we'd take him with pick three, but if we split it and downgrade a few spots he'd be a great get.
