  1. The footage was interesting. He can take a mark which is always nice to see. He stands up in tackles and dishes well under pressure. His hand pass is good, his kick is long but average. Looked to be a fairly high trajectory which I don't like. It was hard to get an idea of his pace, but he seemed to have a pretty quick first few steps to get a little space. I'd say concerns over pace and kicking, but a legitimate ball-winning mid. I'm not sure I'd rave about him the way some are, but I'd need to see more than that clip.
  2. I don't think I agree with any of these. Jetta didn't play the whole season and faded toward the end. I think he did a great job to finish as high as he did. Frawley spent much of the season as our most effective forward and as they said took the most marks for the year. I know he wasn't great the last couple of weeks and copped a lot of flack, but he had a pretty solid year for us. Viney at 11th is a great result for him. He wasn't that great this year, he was tough but often ineffective and seems to cause a stalemate as often as a clearance. He showed a bit late in the year, but he's got work to do. Watts comes in for a huge amount of justified criticism for his inability to stand up to contact, but he played every game, averaged 17.5 disposals, 5 marks and 2.6 tackles a game. Given that he was once again tossed around to wherever we had a hole that needed filling, that's a solid result. Kent showed us plenty in the last two games, and had a few flashes early on, but he was wildly inconsistent and often had no impact in games at all. I love the kid, but he wasn't great this year. If he can do what he did in the last two matches consistently he will leap up the rankings.
  3. Garland was never right this year. I think this is a classic example of what the loss of match conditioning can do to a player. I'm not too worried about him next year if he doesn't get hurt again.
  4. It's nothing against Jones, but I really hope he doesn't win another one. We desperately need a few other players to stand up and take over the top spot from him.
  5. Congratulations to Dom. That's a huge effort for a young player coming back from a knee. Is tehere anyone out there who still thinks we shouldn't have made that trade?
  6. Another great pickup for us this year. Amazing to have three new recruits in the top five (assuming Tyson appears in the next two).
  7. Ouch. He really did drop off at the end of the year. Still a great result, but I would have loved it if he'd managed to hold on to that lead.
  8. Great reward for Cross. He's been a real bonus for us this year.
  9. How great would it be for Dunn to win it? I think Jones will overhaul him, but it is an amazing effort from him.
  10. I have to give it an E. There were half a dozen close games we could have won. Normally Id call those 50-50 games, but we managed to fall short in every one of them. I think four wins was a bare minimum for us, and given the teams we beat, we really should have wound up on 7-10. I agree with Roos when he points out that half a dozen of the first team players didn't have a pre-season and ran out of legs, but there were players at Casey who could have been tried rather than sticking with guys who were fading out due to fitness issues. All in all the team under-performed and I don't think Roos really did the right thing by refusing to make changes. While stability is a fine thing, if you have unfit players in the senior side and fit players in the reserves there is something going badly wrong.
  11. Not sure I'd take any of them. Garlett has really struggled without Betts to take the defensive attention and Robinson is a massive [censored]. I was however wondering about Dennis Armfield. He has decent skills and pace, wouldn't cost us much but would be an improvement to our midfield/HB area. He's by no means a great player, but as I say he could be going cheap and is better than some we have playing.
  12. I think this may have started with Scott West and his lightning "handpass" out of traffic where he would launch himself into a horizontal dive as he picked up the ball and make a vaguely handpassish motion while tossing the ball to a teammate. Once the umps decided to allow this, the rest just kind of followed.
  13. The AFL needs to overhaul the entire Umpiring setup. They need to be properly governed full time employees with performance targets and a real review/discipline system for when they royally screw up. What they are doing right now is amateur hour.
  14. He was better today than he has been in a long time. Plenty of ball, did some damage with it, took players on with his pace and I think he even tried to put a block on at one point. Of course, he was also [censored]-poor whenever someone put a hand on him, but it was still an improvement.
  15. But I'm looking forward to next year!
  16. So, looking forward... Next year we may well see the debut of a hard-at-it young mid by the name of Harmes, and possibly even a lightning quick winger called Hunt. Both have shown god signs playing for Casey and with the benefit of a full pre-season and a few more kilo's of muscle should be ready to show their stuff. We should also see the debut of an highly anticipated Hulk in round 1. Coupled with this, there is every chance that we'll be seeing the return of a few quality ball-users who have had injury issues his year, so with luck the delivery to Hogan will be better than the crud we saw this year. There will be a number of new faces around the club, hopefully a couple of experienced playmakers to balance the inside mids we seem to have stockpiled. With a bit of luck Salem will have the legs to impact games and JKH will improve on a stellar first season. Let's hope that next year things start to turn a bit more in our favour.
  17. 6. Tyson 5. McDonald 4. N. Jones 3. Kent 2. Watts 1. Vince
  18. Well, it could've been worse. We got to see some decent play here and there. Dawes got himself suspended which is nice. Shows a little intent. Watts would be fine if he had a force field so nobody could touch him. He never has a problem as long as they don't put their hands on him. Kent played his best quarter ever. McDonald kicked his first two goals in the AFL. We may have topped our "worst pass for the year" board. As I say, could've been worse.
  19. There were a couple of shocking HTB frees paid against us tonight, but overall I thought we had the better of it. They gave us some insane in the back calls. The one to Riley in the 4th was easily as bad as the McDonald decision.
  20. Where the hell was this effort and attacking play for the last two months? Fitz is doing well, but he doesn't make that big a difference.
  21. We've had plenty of draft picks exceed expectations. Bale, McDonald, Jetta. All low picks who are doing ok. IF only we could say the same about our first round picks.
  22. I'm not surprised by any of these. Bail works his ass off and has had a good year, Riley is showing good signs coming off a non-existent pre-season and Terlich is a great competitor even if his decision-making is questionable. In all cases they are defensively solid, which is something Roos values.
  23. I say call this game a write-off and give the guys on the chopping block a shot at salvaging their careers. Evans, Nicholson, Strauss and Blease to come in. Fitz to stay in. Garland out injured. I have no idea who else, but avoid dropping midfielders. Maybe ditch a couple of talls.
  24. I can say that the flying start the Weagles got on the weekend was on the back of a very shonky HTB call on Tyson. Yes he had prior opportunity, but he was tackled around the ankles. That is a tripping free any day of the week. Instead they pay HTB leading to a mark to LeCras and a goal.
  25. Don't be silly! I wouldn't be seen dead in a Range Rover.
