For DM, I'd happily part with pick 2 and a player. Pick 3 and a player would be better yet, but I somehow doubt that would fly unless it was one of our few good players. Maybe they could do pick 2 and Tappy for DM? I doubt that would fly. Part of the problem is that the Crows don't really have a glaring hole in their list. They could maybe use another key defender, but other than that it's pretty much a case of improving the list, and we don't have much to offer in that area.

Yet another player who had enormous upside but sadly diabolical downside that showed up far too often. It really is a pity that he never got his act together. I do kind of feel for him if he winds up at a good club though. He's going to get a hell of a shock.

A second round pick for Stretch is about right. Might be a little high to give such an early second round pick for him, but he wouldn't be there in the third. I have no problem with using it to get him.

Not quite. SHe says "Melbourne could bid, especially if the Demons believe they will score a second top-five pick for free agent James Frawley." This is not to say that we'd be bidding our Frawley comp, although it's functionally the same thing. She's saying if we had pick three in the bag as well then we could bid pick 2 on him and still get the second best player in the daft with pick 3. In all honesty, I think it could almost be worth doing, especially if the Pies wind up with Mitch. A little bit of revenge for them poaching a key forward from us. We would then use the other pick to grab either Petracca or Brayshaw, depending on who is taken by the Saints.

I believe he is rated as an easy top 10 pick, probably top 5 were it not for Collingwood having first dibs. He's a seriously good player.

It took Rivers a year to get himself up to speed at Geelong too. Our players just aren't good enough to slot straight into a more professional outfit. Let's see what happens next year when he's had more time in their system.

Why the hell would we want Blair? He's a fringe player at best, wouldn't add anything to our list and is a midget. The only thing in that list that I want from the pies is the pick, and quite frankly not at that sort of price.

Nope. FS bidding is the first thing that happens in the trade period. Whatever picks are nominated in FS bidding are out of play for trade and FA periods.

I still say we ask the AFL commission to let him go as a FA in exchange for tier 1 compensation. That's a much better result for us than a trade for the footballer formerly known as Harry O. We then have the option of either trading the pick for someone we really need or using it to pick up a top talent in the draft. Either result is better for us than the trade and Collingwood can't complain because they're picking him up for free as a FA. Assuming he doesn't flip and go to another club who offers him more money.

My take on this is that the Saints will nominate him with their second round pick assuming Port don't offer up their first (which might be a bit of a stretch (pun intended)). I think we'll be paying our second round pick, which isn't really overs. It would be a real stroke of luck to get away with using our third round pick on him.

Petracca or Brayshaw look to the be the options, but Roos tends to surprise so I guess we'll see who he likes the look of.

On the Blease front, didn't one of the radio stations say that Geelong were offering Hunt for him? I ask this because while I think Hunt would be a poor pick up for us, if Geelong are interested I would see if we couldn't pry Smedts out of their list. It would take more than Blease I would think, but he hasn't been getting a regular game with them and several other young players have passed him in the pecking order. He could be the answer to Roos' wish for a decent rebounding HBF.

I've been liking the look of him too. I know it's unlikely, but I'd hope if he slipped we'd snatch him up with our second round pick or if we'd traded for a later first rounder. Agree with this. The Saints are desperate for a quality tall forward so Nick isn't carrying the side on his own, but they also only have a couple of decent mids and their backline are all getting to their used-by date. They even need a ruck. There is seriously no area where they don't need players, so it's far from a sure thing that they'll take a tall early, especially if they can trade for one from somewhere.

What's funny is how many people seem to think it was serious.

I'm loving the irony of Brendan Goddard complaining about clubs targeting certain Bombers' players while there is unrest at the club. How can he say that with a straight face while Hird is sniffing around Clark?

Send that off to the AFL website and see if they're game to publish it.

I don't like to make the call before seeing what the Toump can do, but geez it would be nice to have a player like Wines on our list. I think I'm just about ready to concede the point on this one.

Forget Hunt, try to get Smedts off them. It would take more than Blease, but it's not like he's a regular starter for them. I like the sound of that one.
