  1. True but its no coincidence he popped up last year when Petty when down, May was missing, Gawn injured his foot and Turner went off concussed. Our defence was hugely compromised.
  2. Simply cannot let Cox run and jump at the ball. Must get body on him.
  3. Its a garbage award, who cares. The players nominated after about round 10 have zero chance of winning the award. It started as a rising star award now its a best first year player award which is totally different. And genuine stars sometimes dont get nominated because of the ridiculous rules around nominations.
  4. Let me introduce you to Brittany Higgins....
  5. Silvagni has a surprisingly good record against us. I recall he kicked 3 against us recently when playing ruck/fwd. Setterfield, Docherty also seem to play well against us,.
  6. Smith is not a defender against the Charlie Cameron's of this world. He is better if we play him fwd.
  7. Last 5 games Melb +5 Melb +26 Melb +1 Melb +5 Melb +109 (!)
  8. Two points 1. post more often 2. Umpires have always been the subject of frustration But in the 'old days' with one umpire you knew what you were getting and adjusted according to their particular biases. That changed slowly with the addition of another umpire and then another. Consistency was lost. And that ideally is what we all are after. Nowadays we have four giving inconsistent interpretations, rules of the week, letting certain things go like throws or push in the back and even standing in the wrong positions. Frustration in the extreme, A lot of this started with the attempts to speed up the game. Interchange being the main culprit. All for TV.One of the beauties of our game was that players got tired and couldn't run as far or as fast as the game wore on. Contested footy was the norm. And good teams stood out after half time. Now its a mad scramble from start to finish. Its hard on players and umpires. No other sport has umpires run as far nor require them to have skill - like bouncing a ball. We have the worst of all worlds it would seem and longstanding watchers are fed up with the 'product' and the entrenched biases like fixtures and MRP etc.
  9. Couldn't argue with a single point. Spot on. Should end it to the AFL although they wouldn't care. They would just point to the Broadcast rights deal and attendances. And then pay themselves a gazillion dollars more.
  10. The Vin Catoggio Cup
  11. Not sure I want to be friends with you then
  12. Its part of it but I would't say the major part unless there is a major correlation as Geoffrey Rush and Rebel Wilson tried to argue.
  13. They are part of the money making machine. You get tossed aside pretty quickly if you dare go against it. Ask Dale lewis or Michael Warner. Why do you think TV commentators don't criticise umpires and decisions? Very rare when they do.
  14. oh dear, I think you are missing the point. If there is no midfield pressure where balls are kicked high and quickly into our fwd line its difficult to intercept.
  15. You are doing an excellent impersonation of one of the mindless whiners Pro tip. If you don't want to read opinions contrary to your own suggest you don't read footy forums.
  16. Yep He was just stumbling along in his day job and happened randomly upon this story.
  17. I was against the recruitment of Jefferson. Said at the time there were no highlights in his highlight reel. Nothing stood out about any if his attributes. Was howled down at the time, But....we recruited him and he is young and slight. Needs to get 10kgs and some mongrel to make an impact. I think its almost impossible to train mongrel though. You can see from JVR that he relishes a hard contest and really throws his body in. That's largely innate. Still, we support MJ until proven otherwise. Taylor has runs on the board.
  18. Can we get rid of Adrian Anderson now and just pay up for the Carlton lawyer? Seriously hes a genius
  19. The confidential report (unvetted and unproven) was leaked to the ABC . During Grand Final week no less for maximum impact. On another matter the Reports author is accused of fraudulently obtaining hundreds of thousands of dollars from Murray Valley Aboriginal Cooperative
  20. AT centre bounces our wings don't run to the defensive side. Freo were doing that on the weekend and cleaning up a fair bit of the ball from our fwd taps.
  21. Partly. When there is midfield pressure the ball comes in high and mostly indiscriminately. Lever and may eat that up (although Lever is missing Petty badly. He can't play the No 2 role). Teams have worked that out - hence we are low on the intercept number stat. They are chipping the ball to maintain control. Because we guard grass there is no/little pressure on the ball carrier. The ball is coming in much lower and the scores against us are mainly coming from the smaller players (except for the Ess game). If the oppo don't hit a target they force a stoppage and we are 18th in that area for stopping scores.
  22. A happy clapper thread would be perfect for you
  23. They can do though and our ability to clear D50 ground balls isn't great.
  24. There was a graphic on On the Couch that showed Melb as no 18 for D50 stoppage goals . If I read that correctly it shows that teams aren't bombing it on and are happy with short kicks or dirty balls into our D50. If they can score, great for them. If they can't then they force a stoppage with the likelihood of scoring based on the stat above being quite high. We are leaking a lot of goals this way. It also means our strategy of scoring from turnover is under huge pressure as well.
  25. We are odds on to play Carlton and mcKay back into form next week Its written in the stars
