Prefer him in the middle to McNamara...but he is slow...a bit like Cameron Ling - who has had a handy career...but he did have Ablett, Bartel and Chapman to help him out

With a mother who is simply mad Saints I've endured three Grand Finals sitting alongside her in the past 3 years. The Saints v Cats and first Saints v Pies games were absolutely ripping football contests; I could only sit back and admire both teams. Give me this as a memory of the year any day of the week. We've been soft for 10 years; St Kilda aren't soft for 10 minutes in any given week - they were years ago but Thomas cleaned this up and Lyon crushed it. Blokes like Goddard and Dal Santo are a pleasure to watch play footy - somehow Lyon gets a Saints team delivering week in week out when it has Eddy, Blake, Kosi, Clarke, McQualter, Polo, Ray......hardly 'pretty' footballers. Happy to have Lyon anyday; or any other coach with some genuince ticker who makes a few of our boys shite scared over a pre season. I reckon I'd still enjoy watching Blease, Watts and Trengove develop under Lyon.

Anyone else think if he can play 60% match time in the Ruck when Jamar is back we could benefit by using the Russian as our gorilla forward we're so desperate for? Martin first ruck, Jamar from the goal square - reverse their roles from earlier this season?
-
6 Moloney 5 Trengove 4 Bail 3 Jamar 2 Sylvia 1 Morton
-
He is training with the Bombers, has 4 weeks to prove he's still keen. If not out - open to us to draft of course should we want.
-
6. Bruce 5. Sylvia 4. Rivers 3. Bartram 2. Jun Mac 1. Frawley

Have heard a rumour circulating at Old Hailebury that he's going back there before season end.....from a reliable OH source, no idea if a reliable Dees source. Hoping this is crap and he's ready to return soon.

Here here What has Malthouse achieved in the last 15years than Daniher didn't? An extra runner's up flag? Who cares....Collingwood are replacing him for a reason.
-
Good call Roost It. Very easy to smash the coach, still not sure he's the man BUT I believe we're closer to a flag than when Daniher left us with alot of B grade player - he was very good at getting the best out of them, BUT not good enough to a flag....keep at it Bails, we'll get there.

Two strong emotions today - was shattered with the overall effort from pretty early in the game, quarter two was aweful. Hard to believe players like Bruce and Miller were once viewed as very good - just shows what talent around you can do to lift you. I left the game however releaved. For the first time in a very very very long time I know now we have two genuine elite superstars on our list (Scully and Trengove). It was men against boys and these two were in our best, very promising given the abysmal leadership going on around them (outside Jun Mac). This is EXCITING. Not sure about Watts yet and think Grimes can get there also but WOW we have two guns confirmed!!! Bring on round two, can't get enough games into these boys together quick enough.
-
Hate to say it but McLean the Blue could be ripping value also!
-
Bargains - Scully, Trengove; too good to not play 15+ games and go up in value. Strauss - smokey to take over Grimes running role down back, be the sweeper/designated kicker. Wonna great value if he gets on the park. Trengove a maybe.....and Watts nice and cheap and will play some games.

Luke Ball in the National Draft
1964nowMORE replied to Hazyshadeofgrinter's topic in Melbourne Demons
All emotion aside - be it Balls ability, or not, his pace, or not, his skills, or not, his longeivity, or not, his leadership, or not - he remains a quality AFL player and respect person whom has Captained his Club well - continued to get the best out of himself, despite many injuries and has had a strong run of recent. His last game happened to see him start on ball, in the Grand Final in the most hotly anticipated GF for some time - and he went well. Yes, he rejected our offer of the PSD, dreamy of Lexus Centre. The fact is as he lies in bed tonight, stressing about his future he has nightmares of Alberton or Fremantle - a move away from his family and friends to Clubs with average prospects. We are a long way from his worst nightmare.....a year is a long time in footy, who knows his views this time in 2010 after 22 games with the Dees who finish 10th with 9 wins and he's touted as the next Captain. I say DRAFT him - at pick 18 - and stuff the rest of them. I'd take a proven Luke Ball over an unproven Nathan Vardy or the like anyday. Punt on Tahlia/Butcher/Black at Pick 11, someone else like Patrick/Grimes at 34 and 50, and Thorpe or McDonald at PSD1.....nothing wrong with Trengove and Scully learning the ropes at a new Club of Ball doing the same. Go Demons! and stuff the Maggies. -
No thanks. Buckley gone today was our speedy wingman with poor foot skills, Tenace simply another version of this. Oh so quick but oh so bad with the ball in hand. Writing was on the wall last year when they kept putting game time into Varcoe over Tenace despite form.

Agree - Cale Morton will be a GUN, a must be stopped player in 2-3 years - not sure what more he needs to show in years 1&2 for a pick 4 high talent. He's been a very solid player in a crap team and shown real improvement this year down back. Best brother clearly.
-
Have heard Flash re-signed for one year.
-
-
More than happy to have him, he'd be straight into our best 2-3 players, surely we could use that. In 3 years when we seriously challenge he may ne nearing the end but possibly push on ala Crawford for the big one, or Harvey who missed it. Big bonus that he can swing forward also, would prefer him than a Miller teaching the young boys how to read the pplay, take a contested mark and kick for goal. Very long shot but have a crack Demons.

Melbourne don't need depth players. Get over trading recruiting dead wood Good call above. Lonergan no thanks - we've already got Dunn who could cover similar spots as depth. Watches the Saints yesterday and the depth was irrelivant - Hayes, Riewoldt, Montagna, Fisher, Gilbert and Dal Santo just killed them......the effort of Milne, Eddy, Ball, Blake, King didn't matter. Trade for real talent only - ala Boak.
-
FB: Rivers Warnock McDonald HB: Grimes Frawley Morton C: Green Moloney Davey HF: Wonaeamirri Bate Trengove FF: Watts Jurrah Garland Foll: Jamar Sylvia Scully Int: Martin Petterd Jones McLean Emerg: Bruce, Strauss, Spencer McDonald must be in Rd 1 as Captain. This is exciting simply because it's so hard to do. Couldn't fit Bruce in. Expecting a big pre-season from McLean also. Scully and trengove must play - lot's of games into them in 2010 along with Watts.
-
No. Too old for our window. Spencer, Jamar and Martin as back up the keys, draft a new young tall as a rookie also to develop. I'm still thinking Pick2 (Trengove) to Port for Pick9 (next Ziebell? maybe Cunnington) and Boak. That gets us 3 gun midfielders with Scully. Go Demons, a nice finish to the year apart from the junk 10 mins at the end, veyr competitive when it counted, and we got very little from retirees today, all youth. Morton is a gun! Can play mid and back, forward next.......oh and Jurrah!!!! Bring on pre season training.
-
With our philosphy of 'no risk' on injuries at present the list is bigger than other Clubs, Geelong may have 7-8 if a similar philosphy was followed - Chapman, Ottens and Johnson good examples of that, they'd be listed as "season" if Demons. Another piece may be our list if so big due to the younger bodies not standing up to full AFL season - Swans, Saints have been low on injuries but also have very seasoned AFL footballers who learn to manage and adapt. In 2011-13 we really need Swans/Saints style management and luck!
