Who could have done much better in reality though. It doesn't matter who you stick in defense, if the midfield is poor and can't keep their hands on the ball then any defense is going to be shown up. Stick him in a top 4 side and he'd be right up there. If he didn't look good enough this year, then a substantial amount of that blame should be apportioned to our midfield.

There's a lot of time, change and development to happen before we become a September team. I'm sure we'll see a number of players stand up along the way. We're a bottom 3 side WYL. If we had more players that looked like obvious September players then we wouldn't be where we are now. Frawley will have better performances with a better midfield. He's not as bad as you think.

I doubt any other teams defense would have done a much better job in our side this season. Our defense has been under siege due to our abhorrent midfield. Stick a decent midfield in front of Frawley (and the rest of our defenders) and you'll see what they're really capable of.

Good luck to him if he does. Has every right to have another crack if he feels he's got it in him. I would not begrudge him if he decided to go around again.

If this year has taught us anything it's that we need to turnover a quarter of our list.

I'm pretty sure you'd get a pick for each player that leaves, less a pick for any player that you get. There may be some adjustment by HQ. An extreme circumstance would be if you lost 10 players, got none and only ended up with 1 pick. Doesn't seem very fair to me.

My bad. I believe they have finalised the CBA. I was thrown by the AFL website only showing the old CBA. It'd be nice to see a copy to see if rules like the "Heffernan Rule" are still valid.

Is free agency tied in with the collective bargaining agreement? A few months ago I was trying to track down the Chris Heffernan rule (ie Can't trade a player in his first year of a new contract) I couldn't find it in any of the laws/trading rules but came accross it in the CBA. As I understand it there hasn't been an agreement yet on the new CBA and wondered whether that was a reason for some of the vague rules on free agency.

Brad basically said he thought there were players in our side that had relied on their talent without putting in the hard work. Probably not earth shattering news for most. Also talked a little about Jurrah. Said he was hopeful he would be back in the red and blue at some stage, but didn't sound all together that convincing. Mentioned that with Jurrah his family came first then footy.
