With 8 years of service I thought that the only difference between UFA and RFA was being in the top 25% of earners at the club. If either Sylvia or Davey are in that bracket they'll be RFA, otherwise UFA. Isn't that how it works? All 10+ year players will be UFA?

We don't get any compo from delisted players if that's what you mean?
-
Fair enough, I'd heard it mentioned a few times. Seemed crazy to me. The Bummers are offering a 1 year contract, so we'd have to offer at least a 2 year contract you would think. A minimal risk if we can pick him up for a 3rd rounder.
-
Pick 20 would be ridiculous for a player that has only been offered a 1 year contract at his current club.
-
Are you saying he should have stayed at Geelong? I agree with your sentiment though. He had some good years with us and I hope he comes good for Brisbane.
-
I'm looking forward to seeing Gawn out there in the action again. Maybe experiment with him a little and mic him up.
-
The last week I think will be a bit crazy. When the clubs are dealt their fa compo picks to use for trading.
-
We've already used 1 pick for Viney. So only need another 2. Pick 4 and... whatever is left. But I'd assume we'd pick more than 3 (Unless we trade in a few more established players)
-
I misunderstood the title. I thought this was going to be multiple choice. I'd be fairly happy with Dawes for pick 20.
-
With a healthy Gawn next season there's the option of a Jamar and Gawn, Fitzy or Spencer as a Ruck/forward combination. The best Cook can hope for is a good year of development to improve his standing.

You could get a job writing headlines for the Hun.

But they've got at least 3 or 4 vets, maybe more. It's a fair ol' wack they can pay outside the salary cap on top of their 9% extra.

It seems to be a good and a bad thing for Aussie motorsport. Our drivers just can't compete with budgets and sponsorships so they tend to miss out on international series. But it also means that we've got some incredibly talented guys in our domestic series.

The 10.15am Thank God It's Over Thread
Jack Jack replied to Grandson of a gun's topic in Melbourne Demons
I fear that it is only just the beginning if we are forced to use pick 3. It will be a Demonland meltdown of epic proportions. -
Are you seeking an injunction against using pick 3 in F/S bidding?
-
Yeah I'm a fan. I know it's an Aussie faux pas, but I'm not fussed either way with the manufacturers and have been supporting Lowndes whichever make of car he happens to be in. He tried his luck OS for a year or two didn't he?

Thanks BH. Yeah it'd be nice to be able to get involved in some of these bigger trades in the hope of dislodging a few mids.
-
Are there any updates on KS's preferred destination yet? Or are we waiting for the trade window to open?
-
They've got a few veterans as well don't they? They may well benefit from the new veterans rules whereby they can pay $100k to each that doesn't count in the salary cap.

I don't believe that is true at all. He mentioned in an interview at the B&F last year that he was carrying too much weight and his goal was to drop some bulk. I think people are reading too much into Beamer not being signed yet. We've seen in the past where trades have been held up by larger trades (Judd). It's probably not going to be any different with free agency. There's still another 2 weeks to go of FA.

I guess with the lack of definitive information the AFL has provided means all scenarios are possible. One of problems I have with rolling all FA points into one pick is that it would disadvantage the finalists too much. If a finalist was to lose several band 2 compensation players and received a band 1 compo pick, they'd basically be sacrificing 2 picks to move up only a couple of positions. The numbers are already skewed for finalists, particularly the top 4 odd teams who's band 1 (first round pick after their normal selection) and band 2 compensation (end of first round) are basically the same. Free Agency came about to help player movement. By handing out more lesser compensation picks gives clubs flexibility to do more trades and facilitate player movement.
