  1. it is not necessarily illogical for those clubs to be facing a closed window and us not to be despite the relative performances this year. How about we stop beating ourselves around the head until we see a few rounds in 2020.
  2. You are right about those deficiencies, but it's not as if we were bundled out of the finals last year in game 1. Surely those 2 wins show at least a smidgen of credibility as a finalist.
  3. I agree. I don't equate success with winning a flag although that is the ultimate success. Rather than one flag and 49 years uncompetitive, I'd prefer 50 years competitive. Better than both of course would be a period like N Smith era.
  4. That goal review: It's one thing for the umpires to make mistakes, and another if the video evidence is unclear. But when the video is clear, unforgivable. Imagine if C'wood lost because of a clearly wrong goal review like today's.
  5. And to top it off, Scully moved to Hawthorn....
  6. But I don't see how doing it gradually makes any sense: 4:35, 5:00, 5:30:6:30, 7:30??? It's not something that can be achieved by creeping up on us. Or are we boiling frogs?
  7. Doesn't make any sense to me either for tonight or for a GF. Surely if the AFL just has to drop the afternoon GF (for fear of not maximising $ or whatever), then a normal night game is far more sensible than 4:30pm.
  8. They are written because filling air space seems to be compulsory these days. They'd get stick from elsewhere if they didn't. It is perfectly reasonable that Demonland 'promotes' them - just to bring to forum members attention what's being said by or about the team.
  9. I really don't know what you guys expect. Of course there will be these 'puff' pieces. What would you write if you were in the PR department? If they upset you so much, just don't read them. You know what they will say, so save yourselves the grief and don't look.
  10. They were pretty solid in my day (cue violins....)
  11. sue replied to TGR's topic in Melbourne Demons
If true, does that increase/decrease odds of Yze coming to Dees?
  12. Call me a cynic, but I'm inclined to believe the AFL has shown how tough it is by handing out the 1 week knowing he can have a no risk appeal and will then get off. History would indicate I'm right, but you never know I guess.
  13. Well if GWS beat C'wood that will be the end of any concessions the AFL give them in future. Eddie won't stand for it.
  14. Agree with you there. But just because it 'has always been part of the game" does not justify actions which have nothing to do with the game. If I wanted to watch boxing or karate, I wouldn't go to the footy.
  15. First line correct - but they do it all the time. Second line: why he is on the field is irrelevant. AFL must be the only code where the players, officials and commentators have never bothered to read the rules. The commentators' discussion about what's acceptable is a laugh. Here's a simple way to avoid it. Any contact which is deliberate and does not involve trying to get the ball, tackling, shepherding etc should be prohibited contact whether players are injured or not. Would cut out stupid niggling which has nothing to do with footy skills.
  16. 1 week. Doubtless will win no-risk appeal. Staged.
  17. good grief. Give it a rest.
  18. OK. Could someone who believes that the coach should say something that isn't cliches and corporate-speak please draft the sort of speech they believe is appropriate for us all to read. I'll be pleasantly surprised if anyone can do it.
  19. Just looked at the AFL website. Talk about burying the news.
  20. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/sep/07/afl-colours-clash-leaves-collingwood-geelong-fans-fuming Of course all this would go away if they both wore entirely different clash jumpers.
  21. I wonder what fraction were Dog supporters. Looked high to me.
  22. But the orange seats help
  23. Yes, hard to watch.
  24. Essendrug is not childish or tedious if you speak the odd word of German.
