  1. I wasn't referring to him (I have never forgiven his pro-Essendon position in the 'enhancement' program). But his co-presenter said it 3 times, so I guess she got it from him.
  2. But that's all, as you say, your 'guess'. i have heard in ABC radio them say he has been forced to retire by the AFL. And a couple of posters here have said that too, but I cannot find any statement from the AFL saying that and Gus said it was his decision. Anyone....?
  3. Is that true? All I've seen is Angus saying it was his decision.
  4. and the 10 journos who your club has lined up to video it.
  5. I hope you are right. But I fear you may be sounding a bit like the Black Knight of Holy Grail fame.
  6. Surely a waiver for that deadline is in order, though what good it would do, I dunno.
  7. If you believe that Maynard was genuinely attempting to simply smother, you and I are on different planets. So I think the quesiton you posed is irrelevant. Just because you can reasonably argue (as you did) that Angus' condition had a long history, says nothing to absolve the AFL and its sychophant/gravy-train media of the shameful outcome of the 'trial' of Maynard.
  8. I regrettfully agree we'll get bugger-all out of the AFL - a list spot if we are lucky. On a more general note, surely the AFL in introducing a new rule after the Maynard 'incident' is essentailly admitting some sort of liability.
  9. only if he is accompanied by AFL heavies and their journalist sycophants.
  10. If the AFL's processes were kosher, I'd agree. I don't.
  11. If I could fix my typos I would.
  12. I know some may feel this is too early and it's certainly out of place in the thread about Angus' retirement, but hearing something positve here will give me some relief. What if anything can the club expect from those %#&#^s at the AFL?
  13. Same old AFL-line waffle at the end of that. No new rule was necessary to punish Maynard.
  14. Only because the word 'could' means whatever you like. They could, and then again, maybe they won't. Given the difficulty of winning premierships where everything has to go just right.... The trouble with sports journalism, is that they have no substantial facts to go on. So they blither and blather just to fill up media space with the bleeding obvious. The world's dumbest AI engine could generate their guff. Most sports journos will be redundant before the season is finished.
  15. Surprised? After you being on here for 13 years?
  16. At least they made the regular game commentators look good. A difficult feat.
  17. Maybe they were told "Don't worry about being scored against, just be aggressive. We'll leave practising stopping goal runs till another day" (which usually means just slowing down and retaining possession). Unfortunately the aggressive bit didn't work much.
  18. Playing the game itself true. But depends on who the opponents are in the 2's. Unlikely tomorrow I'd hope, but some players who are always only going to be at VFL level, like being able to tell their grandchildren what they did to a star player back in the day. Physical, and maybe verbal. Anyway not enough to affect the decision to play him.
  19. Problem is it is an ingrained habit. Possible to overcome during practice, but in the heat of a split second decision, hard to overcome the habit.
  20. Be interesting then to see how he goes in the practice match vs Carlton
  21. about time too. With the bounces going all over the place half the time it is inevitable that there will be perceived blocking and ludicrous free kicks paid.
  22. Why am I still looking at this de-railed thread supposedly about training. Bring on this week's training reports so I don't feel tempted to look in here again.
  23. I'm interested to know why saying one is sick of a topic clearly shows that person doesn't understand sport. And show me where she denigrated Schache? She just cheekily pointed out the apparent contradiction between those who were desperate for him to be subbed -in and those who say he is sub-standard or worse. BTW, I am also a sport ignoramous because I too think this discussion is going round in circles and anyway, it is out of place in a training thread.
  24. I found this (doubtless well-known to many') but what you said looks very true. Delay is particular bad for a player https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/teams/melbourne-demons/afl-2024-melbournes-joel-smith-facing-minimum-twoyear-ban-for-using-cocaine-before-2023-game-drug-test-ruling-latest-news/news-story/3bd3e7f9ede9df8638c98a2ec44caa5b
  25. What is happening with Smith? When is his case decided, if at all? When could he be back? Seems to have gone very quiet unless I missed something.
