So I suppose you recommend we import some lazy pea hearts?
-
wishful thinking as far as I can see.
-
Quite right. The cultural cringe still exists it seems. Aussie rules is about the only unique thing about this country. Be proud of it.
-
Anyone suggest a reason for this: . The away club must enter three minutes earlier than the home team. Will there be fines for disobeying? Working out which team is to blame would be interesting.

THE BOMBERS' DOPING SAGA - THE FAT LADY SINGS
sue replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in General Discussion
not so good. But it suits me to assume he was a minor cog next to a big wheel. And part of my antipathy towards Hird is caused by his apologists and they haven't bothered to mention our coach. Nevertheless I find it difficult to warm to him. I wonder how warm I'll feel when we win the flag under his watch. -
I doubt if anyone pretends we were angels. You are chivalrously fighting straw men. The complaint is the selective behaviour of the AFL (and sections of the media). I see no problem in us recalling iniquities of the past when relevant news appears. What is a club but a set of memories and hopes? Of course we shouldn't dwell on the past if it stops the club focussing on the future. But this does not, especially since what we posters say here has zilch effect.

THE BOMBERS' DOPING SAGA - THE FAT LADY SINGS

He'd bloody well better. It's be worse than microwave territory. If Hird came within a mile of the club I'd be writing to the club saying I'll not be renewing my membership. And mean it. -
That is rather glib and sounds like you are just dismissing any chance of anything working. Your brain will only 'rattle' if the skull is decelerated too quickly. Find a helmet to address that and you can ameliorate the problem. I expect it will require a fairly thick soft helmet and some new wonder material.
-
I don't think anyone is suggesting solid helmets like in Gridiron because of the battering-ram effects you refer to. But a padded helmet is unlikely to lead to the same behaviour. While there is a risk that even such a helmet might lead to more dangerous behaviour, if there is a technological 'soft' solution in the wings I wouldn't rule out applying it until it was shown that the extra dangerous behaviour outweighed the benefit.

THE BOMBERS' DOPING SAGA - THE FAT LADY SINGS

But would that be enough for them to see the light and turn on him? -
The above is true, but too pessimistic. Some way of decreasing the deceleration of the head when it hits something is obviously needed. If you run into a brick wall covered with a layer of rubber the head has to stop in a very small distance (and time) and therefore there is a high deceleration. So how can you increase that distance? A large ball, 1 metre in diameter, made up of polystyrene balls on each player's head will clearly achieve the result (as well as making the game unplayable). Something between that and something sensible, probably requiring new materials, is very likely to help, even if it's not 100% effective. Seat belts, airbags, crumple zones - they all help, but if the collision is bad enough they won't. Not a reason to toss them out if they help in the lesser collisions and don't induce overriding reckless behaviour.
-
The problem is you can make that argument for anything the AFL or foxtel etc choose to do. Doesn't make it right. There is no competition so we have no way of knowing what is reasonable and what is exploitation. Seems to me that the interests of Foxtel are being put above that of the humble AFL fan.

I found that I can cast replays to my TV, just not live streams. So it may suffice for the OP.
-
When I first saw that video I genuinely thought they had put up the wrong video because I didn't see anything worthy of penalty. On re-playing, I saw Oliver pushed in the back and thought he must have done something wrong after he got his free kick. MRP on track for another outstanding year. Perhaps this will help Oliver control himself from whacking players during the season - because you never know when they will duck as you swing and you get suspended.
-
Fair enough. But I guess I can say if you only want to watch MFC matches, not other sports and entertainment, you have to pay Foxtel around $300 (depending on the deal). That works out to around $14 per match. That is unreasonable I reckon.
-
Reminds me of when our corporate masters (who love to roam the world without borders when it suits them) thought they could get away with imposing 'region codes' on DVD players and DVD's.
-
Fair enough. And I would prefer the AFL to be as ignorant as possible of such workarounds, so glad you deleted it. My motivation for wishing to see the AFL screwed is contained in one of my earlier posts.
-
I can understand why you removed that post (and the less the AFL sees the better as the poster feared), but I don't believe there was anything illegal in what the poster suggested. Possibly is illegal in China, but not here (yet).

Thanks for that info. i was thinking of buying a device to direct connect through HDMI but good to know it's not worth wasting my $. I'm really p!ssed off with the AFL. I live in NSW, take out 3 Demons memberships, get to go to 1 match every couple of years if we are lucky, and the best advice to see matches on a TV is to pay another $240 for 6 months (or maybe $340+ if I can't get the deal ET got, and even if I do it looks like they will jack up the price after a year).
-
Sadly, the AFL is getting more technically adroit. This year the AFL Live app really has stopped us casting from our Iphones and ipads to a TV for live broadcasts (unlike last year when it was just a tiny bit tricky to do so). Though as far as I can see the claim that the picture is limited to the size of the device is still misleading because while the action fills an iphone screen, on an ipad most of the screen is taken up with stats and other guff. So it seems it you want to see footy on a TV screen you have to sign up to one of Foxtel's wonderful services, get a package of junk you don't want for $15/month and then a sports package for even more $ which contains sports in which I have no interest at all. Thanks AFL; from someone whose only interest is in AFL, I love you.

Melbourne reveal plans to unleash Jesse Hogan into midfield mix
sue replied to What's topic in Melbourne Demons
By the fact that the AFL lists him at FF in the JLT team list. At least the MFC report doesn't bother to say where anyone is playing. -
and how can you have a GRAND final when there have been no other finals (let alone 3 Grand Finals).
-
While it is good to see the supporters here making whoppee over winning a 'grand' final, I noticed the players hardly cracked a smile when the final siren went. Good to see that they have more serious things on the agenda.
-
wow, 3 wins in a row

I was dubious but interested, but every positive feeling I did have was drowned in all that ridiculous razzamataz. I despair of a world where it is believed that shooting flames and steam and flashing goal posts, music and commentary are essential elements for a sport's success. Was this aimed at 6 year-olds? Sadly, no - hence my despair. I will be watching tonight just to see how the new Demon players look. As a footy tragic who is happy to watch almost any real AFL game regardless of who is playing, I would only watch an AFLX game involving the Dees. I expect I am not alone. As for a fun game to play with small numbers on a smaller field, thank god we have the AFL to invent the official rules for what we used to do in neighbourhood scratch matches. If only we'd had flashing light goal posts, sigh..... The AFL would be wise to consider why Gaelic football is so much more interesting to watch (even without flashing goal posts and the odd tackle).
