If he does go to another club, he may well be missing the first few rounds of 2019. Or do pre-season games count?

Alternatively the family might be happy to see Gaff at neither the Eagles or the Demons.
  3. Sure, that's how the rule is applied. But it is apparently expressed in terms of distance which as I've argued makes sense. How could they possibly express the rule in terms of time. It would be laughable to have a rule expressed 'tackled after x milliseconds'. And the 5m rule fits with the general 5m rule about interference, so it covers the case when the ball just dribbles away. Anyway I don't think we are really in disagreement, and it has nothing to do with May.
  4. Just because the umps say 'late tackle', doesn't mean that is the rule, it's just short-hand. It's quicker to say that than say 'the ball was more than 5m away when you tackled'. It is 'late' because the ball was more than 5m away. According to an earlier post the rule is expressed in terms of 5m, not a time delay. I'm just saying that without accurate measuring equipment on every interaction (impossible), time or distance are effectively interchangeable. In fact I think you can argue distance definition is better because it is more useful in cases where the disposal isn't a big fast moving kick.
  5. Surely it is consistent - a kicked ball travels 5m very quickly - probably it's beyond 5m when people judge that the hit was late. Without a tape measure or stop watch measuring each hit maybe the AFL rule is sensible for once.

True. Furthermore who knows what mad rule changes the AFL will implement which may affect the style of play and hence type of player required.
  7. I liked that way he kicked that goal in Q3. Marks on an angle, walks with back to umpire while reducing the angle, ignores the umpire trying to put him on line and plays on to kick the goal starting from where he shouldn't be. It has annoyed me for years that this is allowed, and annoyed me even more that MFC players didn't do this when other teams did. Cynic in me says watch out for 'rule/interpretation' change now that we have a player smart enough to do it. Though why it required much 'smart' is beyond me.

Yes - what rock have you been sleeping under? And I'm not just referring to their playing fast and loose with personal data in pursuit of the $.

Could be because the average MFC supporter is smart enough to avoid the evil that is Facebook. At least I'd hope so.
  10. If we keep the last few weeks up, it will be time to change the thread title and remove the word 'embarrassing'.
  11. Beggars belief: https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/bombers-still-suffering-from-supplements-saga-says-hird-s-dad-20180505-p4zdjm.html
  12. The fat lady certainly knows how to sustain a long note.
  13. possibly, but also justice (until the club stops playing the victim and confesses and apologises)
  14. I cannot see the justification for the mods closing the thread about the Essendrug scandal. The justification seems to be that there were a couple of posts about the cricket cheating which should have been in a seperate thread and that there is nothing more to be said about Essendon. Strange when there are current court proceedings on the topic. Please reopen.
  15. Experience of Essendon says otherwise

  17. not so good. But it suits me to assume he was a minor cog next to a big wheel. And part of my antipathy towards Hird is caused by his apologists and they haven't bothered to mention our coach. Nevertheless I find it difficult to warm to him. I wonder how warm I'll feel when we win the flag under his watch.
  18. He'd bloody well better. It's be worse than microwave territory. If Hird came within a mile of the club I'd be writing to the club saying I'll not be renewing my membership. And mean it.
  19. But would that be enough for them to see the light and turn on him?
  20. They could try honesty and just say we're funding this more, bending our usual rules etc because ..... <whatever>. The reason given may just happen to be reasonable, or at least discussable.

  22. relax, the century didn't start until 2001.
  23. Looks like his ex-captain will have to smash Lever into the goal post (accidentally of course) when we play them sinc ehe can't let go. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-10-10/lever-has-chosen-money-over-success-tex
  24. I'm not criticising Goodwin, but you could easily put that 20% down to the recrutiment and development in the previous years.
  25. couldn't bring myself to watch. Was there much booing? (I reckon there would have been a lot from the Tiger's supporters if Adelaide had won, but having won they would be feeling generous.)
