  1. I have a feeling Cameron Schwab was head of recruiting for he 95-96 drafts, craig took over mid 1997 when schwab was made CEO. Richard griffiths was in charge before that I believe. Schwab got us Woewodin in the PSD and James McDonald in the first rookie draft. He got Robbo at pick 60-odd in the 1996 draft but he was redrafted thru the rookie draft after being delisted.
  2. Don't Know What You Got (Till It's Gone) - Cinderella. In reference to the incredibly large injury lists we sported this year! Also "Teach Your Children" By Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, they were taught plenty this year !!
  3. We were the away team because the match should have been played at Football park. The Crows had earned that right by finishing top 4 but because the AFL still had to play a final at the MCG, we were billed as the 'away' team. Just one of the quirks of the system at the time. We were lucky that it was played at the 'G. Imagine if it was played at AAMI, we may have been completely blown out of the water !
  4. Great article, WJ. It does make you think. I think we are in the lucky position that we do have a dormant "bandwagon" supporter base that come out in bigger numbers when we succeed, but we can't rely on that perception forever. It's time to stand up and fight !!!
  5. I think this is a plus, a chance to kickstart our campaign. The reigning premiers barely ever take the NAB cup seriously and the Cats may take the same tact. Also, I bet we would be using the NAB cup to show off our young talent like Newton, Bate, Jones, Petterd etc and would go in at probably 80-90% of our best side available. Will be an interesting one!
  6. I also notice that out of our 6 Interstate games, one is a home game at a neutral venue (manuka), one is an away game at a somewhat neutral venue (Carrara) and we play Subi once. Plus we won't have to travel to Sydney for the first time 8 years. Not a glowingly positive draw but it seems pretty balanced to me. Although the trip down does return for us, at least we now have the monkey off the back regarding that trip and unlike other years, it's early in the season!
  7. From what I can see it should be Richmond who should be more insulted by the dome slight. Our home game against them is at the 'G on the last day of the last round, we could get almost double the dome crowd depending on the two clubs go next year!
  8. Good point there. In '07 our season was over after 3 or 4 rounds and yet we hadn't left Melbourne yet!! I still remember everyone bleating about our horrible draw in 2000 and yet where did we finish that year? Yes, we have been screwed by the draw in the past but good teams overcome this. Doers do, whingers never get anywhere!!
  9. Agreed, The light Blue strip is a bad luck charm for the MFC. It should NEVER be worn again !!
  10. It does sound like a bit of bad luck, but I'm willing to give Brock the benefit of the doubt. He does seem like the kind of bloke who would stand up for a mate, that is admirable. Could have been handled a little better by the boys though!
  11. If only the Tigers were as good at comebacks as their supporters! They may have actually made more than Two finals series in the past 25 years !
  12. Oh well, The Dogs will have to re-do that Peter Jackson Ad now !
  13. According to the Kangas site he weighs 103kg!!
  14. Newton, Davey and Bate counter balance that. I also doubt Holland will get as much game time if Dunn stamps his authority at CHF early in the season. Neitz will have plenty of support!!
  15. Neita will go on, but i agree he should give up the captaincy for 08. If we put Green, Mclean or Bruce into captaincy position it would send a message that we are entering a new era under the coaching of Bailey.
  16. I believe we have only been losers so far. We saw in early 2005 what he can do with the ball, especially on the run, when fit. Don't forget he is still only 23 and if the time he spent out in the second half of this year has the desired effect, we should see alot more Moloney near his best in 08!
  17. It would seem little odd Alwyn would want to leave the Bombers, especially after only one season. Maybe he isn't a Matthew Knights fan?
  18. You might want to see if you can change the title of this thread. it's re-signs not resigns. I just got an unexpected shock !!
  19. Apparently it is under review. But if the advisory panel i.e. us, give it a massive thumbs down we should be able to avoid it. I Hope
  20. It's [censored] weak. One of the strongest points of the MFC marketing is our current logo which has been used very well over the past 12-15 years since first unveiled. To change it now would be ridiculous. Especially for that real beige number !!
  21. I'm usually a real fan of Mark Williams but he has come up with bull during the finals series. But then again that is what makes the coaches conferences more interesting, the controversy!
  22. His son Glenn didn't do any better for us either, in fact he was worse !
  23. I don't know if this fits into the category of disappointing but Leigh Newton could have been anything if not for his wretched OP. There was a game against Carlton in 1997 when Newton seemed to be playing at both ends of the ground. In terms of disappointing fit players, B. Grgic is right up there. When he helped beat the Pies single handedly in 1998 it seemed the sky was the limit for our young number 4 but low and behold he seemed to tread water for the next 3 years until being moved onto Geelong. I think he's now off playing country footy !
  24. I'm Tom, I'm 23 and an Aries. I currently work in customer service and have supported Melbourne since Feb 1991. Before that I had followed my family and for the first 8 and 1/2 years of my life considered myself a Collingwood fan, I shudder to think what I would have been like if I hadn't seen the light and become a Demon. My Favourite players are David Neitz and Cam Bruce.
  25. What about if this side represented the Vics: Based on a side selected by the afl.com.au staff writers mid season, with my own additions. B: C.Johnson Fletcher Wirrpunda HB:Gilbee Maguire Hodge C: Johnstone S.Mitchell Dal Santo HF: Bruce J Brown S.Grant F: NG Brown B.Hall Milne FOLL: Peter Everitt Judd Ball I/C: B Harvey West Braun Goodes Would you get behind that ?
