  1. Personally, my extreme distaste for Robinson as a human being clouds my ability to objectively assess him as a footballer.
  2. You're not suggesting Howe should play high half forward are you Bub? Revolutionary idea!
  3. Yes, I thought something might have made it just go away as well, but the thing that makes me doubt it is the club explicitly pointing out that Clisby made the decision. When there are so many other ways to spin it, they surely wouldn't point at a first year player and say "don't look at us, look at him" unless it was the truth. It wouldn't be much of a way to look after your players.Anyway, I believe the explanation that has been offered. I think it was the wrong call from Clisby as I thought he had a strong case, but I also believe it's his right to make that call and it's drawing a long bow to blame the club for it.
  4. In what world does an individual not get to choose how to plea to a crime he is charged with?!
  5. You caught the bit where it was Clisby's decision didn't you?
  6. How does not contesting it add up to increased eligibility for VFL finals? If his case was strong then a zero match suspension would beat a three match suspension. I come back to the point that Clisby and/or the club must not believe they had a strong case. At face value it just looks like the young man made a poor decision. Oh well, at least justice was served for Brown. That makes me feel a bit better.
  7. At risk of being Ben-Huresque, you are boring me, and the people whose opinion I care about can see who is clearly creating strawmen in this thread and who isn't. It's not up to me to defend myself against your accusations, it's up to you to prove them. I'm not going to bother engaging with you any further.
  8. That's my point - I don't know the answer. You and I are both in a position where we don't know the answer, and we can only think of one conceivable answer. In that position, you've assumed that that must be the answer; I've assumed there must be some other answer that is hidden from me because that one answer just doesn't sound right.
  9. Yes, I know you and everyone else many others in this thread think that. That's the simple and obvious answer, but it doesn't sit well with me. I know we like to think the club is an abject failure in every single element imaginable, but I find it hard to believe that the club would pee its pants at the prospect of going to the tribunal. It's just too amateurish for me to believe.
  10. Agree on those changes, Rhino. Would also like to add some man love for Ryan Harris. Considering that at 30 he looked a journeyman Shield bowler who had never been and would never be anywhere near Test cricket, his rise to first rate international bowler is amazing. His bowling Test average is superior to his first class record, and his batting is comparable. Let's just hope the string and chewy holding his body together can hold out a year or two more.
  11. These sorts of outcomes always make me wonder what the club knows that I don't, because not challenging this seems preposterous at face value.
  12. Dislocated the guy's shoulder apparently. On TV it looked innocuous. Not saying whose version of events is right, I was just amused by how the entire range of possible interpretations have been touched upon by the supporters of both clubs.
  13. Yes, I am ruling out Yarran transferring to the MFC magically switching him in to gear. I reckon for every time that happens, there are 100 occasions where it doesn't and the bloke turns out just as ordinary at his second club as he was at his first. It's a roll of the dice and I don't see the value in it.
  14. It's pretty funny reading the Gold Coast subforum on BigFooty. According to them, Brown's was purely accidental and Clisby's was worse than Judd's chicken wing on Leigh Adams.
  15. Ahh, a rumour newbie. It's a rumour, from a guy with good sources. Doesn't have a 100% strike rate so I wouldn't take it as gospel, but has enough credibility for me to be inclined to believe it a possibility. It's "confirmed" when you read it on the MFC website.
  16. He withdrew with an injury.
  17. So if he doesn't play 250 games and win a few flags at captain, you *will* care that he wasn't nominated?
  18. What about the idea of not using it for the line/impact elements of LBW? I.e. the pitching, bounce, impact part of the LBW are just always set to "umpire's call", and the DRS can only be used to determine if the batsman hit it or not. I think this would solve the problem of the players overusing it (i.e. batsman like Cook and Watson seemingly believing that they are immune to getting out LBW), and it takes away the annoyance of LBW decisions being reversed all the time when it's a marginal call. LBW is the only way to get out in the game where the decision is not black and white, i.e. requires judgement from the umpire, so my view is to leave that judgement with the umpire. For everything else (caught, bowled, stumped, run out, the "I hit it" aspect of LBW), it's clear cut: you hit it or you didn't, you were over the line or you weren't etc; the DRS should be able to manage that quite sufficiently without creating the problematic grey areas we are currently seeing in LBW decisions.
  19. I look forward to when your username is Raul Poos.
  20. Jones x2.
  21. Big woop, he got chances? You have seen our side this year, right? And you've seen how we've fared for small forwards in the last 4 years? It is "big woop". Up until this match Byrnes had kicked 11.5, including 3.1 against GWS. He has kicked 111.88 for his career. I'm not "kissing his ass" or declaring him the second coming of Christ, but he is a decent small forward, who creates opportunities to score, usually kicks more goals than points, and clearly had an off day. He certainly isn't the devil incarnate as is being made out by you and others.
  22. Byrnes kicked 1.6 - terrible return no doubt, but it means he was in a position to score at least 7 times. We and he ought to expect better, but I don't think it is reasonable to be overly harsh. He could just as easily have walked away a hero tonight; more than can be said for most of our players in most of our other games. Anyway, we played ok and should have won. Amazing how that feels bearable these days; I guess it's all relative.
  23. We should rehire that guy who was our midfield coach in the early 00s. What was his name again?
