  1. All this stuff about "what could he do?" as if he had no choice once committed to the jump. He had an opportunity and time not to turn his shoulder. An Olympic diver can change from a pike to a somersault in mid-air and control their fall to enter the water head and arms first, all in fractions of a second.
  2. Pickett attempts a smother towards the end of the 2nd quarter. Notice how he aims to miss Hoskin-Elliott, rather than charging straight at him. Nice Pickett. 😄 pickett smother.mp4
  3. "Bombing" comes about because sides are too slow moving the ball in transition after a turnover. The opposition gets all their players back in the defensive half, and then when the ball carrier looks up (often under pressure) all they see is a congested forward line with no space to lead into. Port Adelaide had the same problem last night. Move the ball faster and the forward line will open up more.
  4. This "footy action" talk, as if it automatically protects the reasonableness of the action, is just a load of bollocks. A tackle is a "footy action" but if you don't do it properly and sling a player to the ground so they hit their head and get concussion, then you can pay the penalty. An intercept punch is a "footy action", but if you don't do it properly or are late and hit a player in the head and cause concussion, then you can pay the penalty. A smother from front on is a "footy action" but if you don't just try to smother and then run into the kicker with your shoulder and knock them unconscious, then you can pay the penalty. What's also irrelevant is bleatings about Christian's bias as an MRO being an ex-Collingwood player. He has no other option but to refer the incident to the tribunal, and he won't have any influence on the matter.
  5. It's interesting though that so far we haven't missed a beat without him and they haven't improved with him.
  6. Georgiades re-signed with Port.
  7. Good. Let's now lobby to get treated on an equal footing to other teams in terms of fixture, prime time television and playing at Geelong.
  8. This whole thread has jumped the shark.
  9. Sounds like Melbourne fans with ANB. 😄
  10. When the video review shows it clearly wasn't touched, give them a week for staging, the same as diving or flopping for a free kick.
  11. That was the other 5%.
  12. The only thing Daniher and a ruckman have in common is being over 200cm. He loses about 95% of ruck contests.
  13. "AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan has backed the League's score review system and said a goal umpire's failure to refer a game-defining decision to the ARC during Adelaide's one-point loss to Sydney was "a mistake" and would have been overturned if it was reviewed. Really? I'd wager that if there'd been a review, the decision would have been "insufficient evidence" because of poor or insufficient video, and the point would stand.
  14. Don't agree with the "Probably one of" bit. He's the best ruckman I've ever seen and that includes players like the Maddens, Dean Cox, Sandilands and Naitanui.
  15. Quite a few people here did.
  16. He's a colossus of the game, and not just because of his height.
  17. It must be MFCSS that says we were "totally outplayed" when we lose by 4 points.
  18. Bit hard on JVR. He tried his heart out.
  19. Gee, at the end do you reckon when they've got 18 players in defensive 50 there's any space to make a lead?
  20. Brown gets a lot of chopping the arms free kicks because he's tall and attacks the ball at the top of his reach.
  21. We softened the Tigers up, players were out and the rest had a 5-day break.
  22. Emma Kearney in The Age picks North every week, usually by 1 or 2 points. She is currently last on 104 , the leader is on 120. If she'd picked against North every week, she'd be leading the competition on 122. Loyalty has its downside.
  23. I interpreted it to mean they have to pay the full $100,000 fine, but with $50,000 of it classed as inside their soft cap and the other $50,000 outside. If they have a recurrence, the second $50,000 then goes back inside the soft cap. That would mean the full $100,000 would be inside the soft cap, with even less spending available to their football department. Hopefully they'd also end up being fined again for any recurrence.
  24. It was publicised at the time, and he had a guard of honour from both teams (Colingwood v Fremantle).
  25. Given the abuse and derision the umpires have to put up with, that's a great record and excellent service. He must have a hide of steel.
