Not sure what is worse, Losing to the pies, or losing to the pies because the American import had his one good game a year against us.
-
It is either something to do with the CBA being negotiated and they are waiting for clarity on salary cap etc or he is genuinely up in the air. Either way its not worth losing any sleep over.

I largely agree with your analysis. I would like to add a few other things we are not doing from last year, and i don't know what the solutions are. - Unable to hold the ball in our F50 - getting rebounded and counter attacked far too easily - Unable to intercept - not enough pressure on the ball and being rebounded out of F50 and counter attacked which is against the slow play mantra we want and losing contested situations and ground balls. - Poor F50 connection - finishing and converting has been terrible - Drop off scoring opportunities - fumbles and poor skills combined, as well as stars not having an impact. I think for a while we were getting away with a few things which are being exploited against really good side. A lot of media focus has been on defense, which is our main KPI but our lack of class forward has been really telling. No only are we unable to score regularly but the ball is getting rebounded quickly for opponent scores. I am not panicking as we have had injuries, form issues and structural issues, but gee whiz it is a throwback to 2020 where we won a ton of the ball and couldn't finish.

Mitch Brown worth a crack?

On a side note - it is a joke how Gil and the yes men at AFL house think there is no conflict in appointing Brad Scott as head of umpires or whatever made up role he does. Its hard to find this sort of corruption outside of politics And i am sure if Gil was asked about it, Brad would have been the perfect yes man to take the position. How dare we question the leagues motives or integrity.

The funny thing about the inconsistency with the dangerous tackle is, the AFL can't even get the consistency with striking right. But to answer your question La Dee - it is just more confusion on an already dubious set of ""standards" introduced at Boy Club central.
-
Agree, Im all for keeping it clean, but the interpretation and consistency of what is dangerous is just more confusion. I seriously could not explain to anyone anymore what holding the ball is now. I honestly don't blame the umpires, I blame the AFL for making it such a joke to umpire. And on top of that, how do you justify such huge free kick counts and differentials. No wonder people are turning off.
-
I thought this weekend we got a pretty good run with the umpires. Was nice to be on the positive end of this for once, but I still don't like it. There shouldn't be the gaps in interpretation and consistency that there are. I know many won't agree, but it questions the games integrity. Keep up the good work AFL.

So you've offered nothing informative either. Next time you go critiquing others opinions maybe you should look at offering a little bit more yourself. Lets just agree Melksham doesn't offer a lot and he won't be in the team when the whips are cracking. The other thing worth noting in the analysis, is that the MFC mojo is role and defence above all else. So not making an impact is not necessarily equal to not contributing.
-
How do you know he didn't execute it? You act like you're opinion is so important how about you explain yourself and why we should bother reading your bland comments.
-
If your qualification for anyone to comments on here is that the poster needs to know everything then there won't be much said on here at all, because hot tip it is just opinions without any inside knowledge. My opinion that he played a role is no less relevant then your vitriol or whatever you are crapping on about.
-
Fair comments, I don't think his value can't be questioned, i was just saying there will be a need for guys to come in and do a roll throughout the year. Good to promote depth and competition for spots and keep things fresh, its a long season and we want to be cherry ripe for the last 4 games of the year. Not this time of year. I don't see Melksham in our best side either.

No, I can't, I am not inside the team. While i 100% agree with the perception, Milkshake is ineffective and doesn't seem to contribute (stats clearly say he doesn't offer much), I am more interested in team dynamics and roles. I think you could make the same arguments for all our small forwards, you're making about Milkshake. They don't always impact the play, but they run hard and put on pressure. Long story short to answer your question, i remember last year Milkshake came in vs WCE in Perf and he played as a KPP and took one of Hurn or McGovern (i forget who exactly) out of the game. That is the kind of contributions i am talking about that are valuable to the team. That's what these guys do, thats why we have been successful as a club in recent times. it is about the team and not the individual. Im not saying he playes next week, but you shouldn't knock him purely on statistical impact.
-
Played a role. No world beater but executed what he was meant to do.

We have been consistently poor at converting all year. There will be a few games where that will bite us. I think we outscored Norf on the night by 15 odd scoring shots. Could have easily been a bigger win. I know there is another thread already but i wonder if we need to start to worry about Trac's conversions and F50 efficiency. We had something radicicolous like 70 inside 50s but most were scrappy.
-
True, im not saying i have the answer, all i am saying is it might not be as simple as we think. There is no way to really tell unless you are on the inside and Salem like Brayshaw is open to a move/challenge.
-
I'm surprised anyone is surprised by these results. AFL has been doing this type of inconsistency for decades. They will always throw the book at no names and protect the big names. it always has been and always will be about money, players ability to earn, prestige, ratings, opinions, selling papers and subscriptions and TV rights. More the stars paly the more money the league makes, its pretty simple when you think about it. AFL has always ruled in its own best interest.
-
Unless you were to play Salem in the middle or up the ground to improve our connection forward.
-
You should start a thread and find out.

All good, fair to say it went over my head :)

I should have edited my post DD I meant to say, I think the coaches rate defence over offense, so if guys like ANB and spargo are excelling in their roles it will make it very hard for Bedford and Chandler to break in to the team This is just an opinion and i really loved watching Bedford play on the weekend, i am excited about what he brings.

Sorry i have missed it and not sure if anyone has seen anything, but how serious was Smiths injury? I am sure the Docs will get it right (for Lever) but we have the depth to not be taking any risks, IMO.
