Ironic - as this is what these players gave the MFC Dirty word - very hard to argue. What is market vale? - what if no other clubs wanted the players then what is the market value??? I agree we haven't got great value in our picks - what we do have is list spots available to get in kids/experience that want to play footy for Neeld and the MFC
-
We'll get in blokes who actually want to play winning footy at the MFC - don't get caught up with draft pick numbers.
-
Or Dunn was pick 12 I am enjoying the midless hysterics though kids - keep it up
-
You won't want to waste another high draft pick on losing Bate with that thinking then Get a grip ppl - a free list spot is more valuable than Morton (i don't think anyone could disagree with that)
-
Haha top post.
-
So in your opinion this isn't what happened with Bailey? After all 186 was awesome!! It's refreshing to see a coach come in to this club and have some balls to cut blokes who aren't up to his standard.... And Neeld has actually coached finals sides in the AFL and other comps
-
Spot on the media always look short term and never see the big picture..... I am happy with our moves so far - as like everyone I am disappointed about Gys but I am happy a bloke who wants to play at the MFC in Pederson is now on our list as we lack decent KPP's rather than mids. The media love putting in the boot - no one is bagging Richmonds pick ups other club's NQRs
-
I understand your lodgic Scoop - but i think people in the media and on here put too much emphasis on draft pick numbers - Once a player is drafted I don't really think clubs look at where they were picked (in the big picture) I do realise a draft position are a good indication of player value but it's not the be all end all. I personally think list positions are more important that draft order - For example MFC are in a stage where want to bring in experience and draft some quality kids - hence why so many careers are in limbo - Dunn, Bate etc For my point of view Cale Morton trade was nothing more then to clear list space for a bloke that really wants to play winning footy at the MFC. There is no doubt Gys and Morton had talent and potential - the MFC has made calls to bring in blokes that are going to be dedicated to the cause. I'd rather have those blokes on the list now then blokes who have had chances haven't proven they can play consistent AFL footy every week and probably don't want to play for the club. Thats my take

Happy with this trade - Am loving the reactions from some of the boys on this thread - I like how we're ignoring the fact Viney - Wines/Tompus and Rodan & Byrnes will be walking in to the bestt 22 next year. Re watch some games ppl - getting the ball is not an issue once we got to the end of the year - hitting the scoreboard is our biggest issue
-
I haven't read every post in this thread - (haven't got the time) but there are a lot of assumptions Gys wants to stay at the MFC and get the best out of himself. Maybe the kid doesn't want to stay here... maybe hes looking for opportunity elsewhere. And there is nothing wrong with competition for spots all over the ground - Talls are a lot harder to come by then mids - I am confident we can continue to draft and develop what we have on the list.... What I am not confident is that we have quality talls (obviously now drafting Dawes helps) But Fitz, Martin & Sellar are not going to hold key positions they're all pintch hitters - We need as many decent talls as we can get
-
Gys Stop attacking the man 'stuie' - people are allowed to have opinions even if you consider them wrong Gysberts like Cook both had injury interupted seasons - you can make the same argument for both of them, but you choose not to because of you have your own opinion...... which is fine....both were high draft you can't say both didn't show potential. Personally I hope Gys stays and proves everyone wrong..... but the simple fact is we as supporters don't actuall know how Gys is rated within the FD. He could be lazy and soft for all we know......... We know how Cook was rated by the FD - he was delisted And that will be a call for Neeld and the FD - is Gys worth presisting with or will he be traded / delisted to give another bloke an opportuinty/??? We'll know soon enough
-
I like Davis as well - looks like a goer. IMO he needs some time to develop - needs to work on his bodying and disposal & decision making. Like the kid but I think he's too young at the moment to take Rivers spot. Potentially could play River's role i reckon
-
I like hearing this - wouldn't mind if Gys was 'glued' to Grimesy this offseason. Like the Gys - from an outside point of view looks like he needs to do some hard yards, would love to see him play well in the red and blue Sounds like Martin will be traded - Im not unhappy about that
-
Thanks for the you tube clips Sloonie I haven't seen much of Pederson but from what I've seen and heard from mates - he sounds like a handy pick up Looks like a smooth mover - which is more that can be said for Sellar or Martin

Round 1, 2013 Melbourne v Port Adelaide @ MCG
Cheap Seats replied to wattsup's topic in Melbourne Demons
Good news... hopefully a win rd 1 in 2013 I'd be pretty disappointed if we lost this game - PA have never beaten us at the MCG - lets keep that tradition!! Go DEES -
I don't think there is any conspiracy here - I think Rivo wanted more than we were willing to offer (which makes sense at his stage of his career) and when push came to shove he took roughly the same amount of cash at a more sucessful club.... Good luck to him... Thats what this FA period is about and I think it's worked well to a large extent - it's been an exciting time and given players opportunity PS - Just to clairy i don't blame J Riv for chasing cash or success at this stage of his career. Peronally my only gripe on Rivo is he is a libaility offesively (in the back 6) - was a very solid defender though
-
All good mate - as I said I wasn't having a crack at you presonally just wanted to pass some info, i do enjoy your contributions nutbean Its no secret Im no massive J-Riv fan but he was a good club servant and I wish him all the best.
-
Not having a go at you nutbean - but I don't know how you can make that assumption without knowing the contract offer from the MFC Maybe his reason for looking elsewhere was that he wasn't offered enough to stay on and went for the next best option??? Anyway good luck to Rivo - i guess we'll all see now how important he was to us and how good of a player he really is outside of this club. No hard feelings on my part PS: to clarify my position i am vaguely aware of the coin he was on to what he was offered

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRIS DAWES
Cheap Seats replied to Norm Smith's Curse's topic in Melbourne Demons
Chin up mate, chances are we would have wasted the pick anyway......... haha At least this way we're trying to win games next year............ it's more then likely we wouldn't win as many games in 2013 anyway - at least we are having a crack!! Time will tell - for the record I am happy to bring Dawes in - lets hope its not a disaster! -
Ben Hur and Ted Fidge sum it up well.......... I like Rivers but he is no star Personally I hate the Rivers comparison to Scarlett, Rivers is a great reader of the play and a decent shut down player, but Rivers has little to no offensive value at all. Scarlett is an All Australian who consistantly beat his oppenents and was very damaging goning forward - Rivers is not.... I will say Rivers will be a handy pick up by Geelong, they have ball users Rivers can offload too, MFC don't

From the bottom of a sauce bottle – 3 way trade
Cheap Seats replied to Number 2's topic in Melbourne Demons
Very true BH - publically iit seems he is out of favour at the Dees... Big fan of Kate Upton as well - love the cat daddy -
Not something I am really overly concerned about.... 1. We won't get them all anyway 2. Uncontested possessions and ball use was addressed in the 2nd half of the season - I am not up for a long debate - we do need some class mids at the MFC, having Viney, Jones and Trenners helps but we need more no doubt - Moving in to 2013 getting the ball should not be an issue with some development of our current mids/half backs - I see Dan Nicholson and Rohan Bail being imortant to this mix 3. Our biggest Bigest weakness is a lack of talent up forward and an in-ability to hit the scoreboard in the 2nd half of the year from multiple forward 50 entries. We need forward for 2013 - keep up the good work Neeldy
-
Mate who knows - it's pin the tail on the donkey wiht the HUN in all serious though - out of Dawes, Pederson and Gumby - Gumby could be the cheapest and play the same role>?? Time weill tell... 3 weeks left
-
A little left field - from the HUN Melbourne zeroes in on Bomber Scott Gumbleton, but faces fight with Fremantle
