  1. Now this is the kind of interesting stuff I want to read!! Very interesting prospects - would love to know what the offer is from G-Town (i haven't read the article yet) and what we could use the picks to gain elsewhere??? Interesting times ahead.
  2. You would hope that is obvious to J Watts - it seems to be obvious to eveyone else! I don't think anyone questions Watts has the talent - has he got the hunger? As for Greeny.... good luck to him whatever path he chooses
  3. Which again is why R Lyon would not have come to the MFC if he made himself available. It will cost cash but you also need quality people.... I know it's too early to tell but I am still happy with the Neeld, Mission and Craig combo. I think they all bring something the MFC hasn't had for a while. Hardness, high proformance & elite training Only time will tell - but if last year's recruiting is anything to go by I trust Neeld and co to make tough decisions and back themselves to get the right ppl/players in as well
  4. Nope you're right he made grand finals in his first years at Collingwood - but that wasn't my point, it took him 10 - 11 years to actually win one What I am trying to say is that building a list can take a while and agreeing with CFH and others saying that low draft picks and FA's will not make the MFC a contender straight away.... Players need to buy in and Neeld needs to build his list.... Knowing our supporters I will be suprised if Neeld finishes out his contract let alone build a competitive list
  5. No problem with that wyl I personally don't think the MFC could afford Ross's salary but I agree with you - Freo are a danger this year. Ross has been impresive this year - and brought some of that underhand conspiracy to his coaching as well haha. How good is Pav though a great leader and got the players to 'buy in' to the coach... another element we are lacking here at the MFC haha
  6. I agree with the principle of this thread There are no easy answers to get us back to being a contender. We need to stick to a plan and at the moment it's Neeld building a cometitive list. It took Malthouse 11 years??? at the pies lets hope Neeld at least gets to see out his contract.
  7. Spot on BH I personally think Neeld will coach a lot like R Lyon - hard nosed with a defensive mind set, and as you rightly pointed out I don't think there was a total player commitment. The irony of this thread is we are talking about a coach who has pretty similar traits to our current coach - the main difference (ignoring list types of players) is Freo are a developed committed list where we are reling on young blokes to lead the way
  8. Not having a crack at you wyl but as posters have said before, the bold section is where you and this thread are wrong... he wasn't a free agent, he didn't make himself available and St Kilda expected him to coach them in 2012. Eitehr way - lets pretend for the sake of argument that he was 'available' and mentioned he wanted to move 1/ He was interested in money which I highly doubt the MFC could afford to pay him 2/ Freo's list is far superior at the moment to where the MFC's is There is probably a 5% chance of Ross choosing Melbounre based on those facts - as i've heard whispers that Ross's move was motivated by cash Anyway I agree Ross has been a great coach for Failo - he's kept them playing good footy, hardened them up and brought in his defensive wall and its working well for Failo This is why we have brought in Mark Neeld - have faith people
  9. Anyone know anything about Josh Kennedy's contract at the Swans?? I've heard a whisper he is uncontracted? I doubt he would leave Sydney but he's they type of guy i'd be throwing big coin at
  10. Wow first suprise this off-season I would feel dirty barracking for him... very dirty
  11. Thanks for the response IRW - fair enough that is your opinion and I respect that. I am not saying I want Rivo out the door - but I wouldn't be upset if Neeld decided he didn't want to pay his asking price or decided to move him on or if Rivo decides to move on to chase success (after all footy careers are pretty short) but that is my personal feelings. We all need favs and something to get excited about IRW so for you I hope Rivo signs on But for me I am happy for Neeld to make tough decisions so he can build a team he wants. It really is tough times at Deeland at the moment
  12. Really good post binman I am keen to see what Neeld has up his sleeve this offseason...
  13. You have your beliefs IRW and I am not going to argue about '186' and how JR admitted he didn't care what happend to the club that day..... And for the record I blame everyone involved accountable for that day - there is no right and wrong side in my view - people should have gotten fired for their arrogance and what they did to this club.... A couple players and admin are still with us today - i just hope they do thier jobs.... I am interested in your thought highlighted though, what gives you that impression???
  14. I don't necessarily disagree with you Heart Beats True... he's been consistant all year. My problem with Riv is he is consistent - He is a leader on and off field and for me personally I don't think he has offered a lot. This article says it all for me about Riv - http://www.melbourne...19/default.aspx I won't bore you guys with my disgust of anyone involved in that game (players/coaches/admin) but I will never forgive any one for what they did to OUR club that day In summary I am not fussed if he stays or leaves....
  15. Just to add to the discussion....... I feel Neeld wan'ts cometitors - blokes that will do anything to win at the club............. I personally don't think J Riv falls in to that category which could be another reason why his contract hasn't been decided yet
  16. I am not sure I have much to add to this chat about Jared.... I personally think he is 50/50 at staying at Deeland.... My personal opinion on Jared as a player has been aired already - I will not be fussed if he decides to leave to chase money/success at another club. He is a good honest player who would fit in well with a good team where he isn't relied on to do a lot of the work. Will be interesting to see where this one falls..... In saying all that his loss of experience would hurt the MFC - then again he is one of the party boy generation (not sure if times have changed for Jared) and one of the'leaders' involved in '186' (to my knowledge) We are cutting a fine line by cutting experience off the list - but in my mind I won't be fussed if Jared decides to go
  17. No harm in friendly debate about the comparrison though is there RR??? I think the Casey game is on the ABC this weekend - I am pretty keen to have a look
  18. Appreciate the info HG Would love to get JV in the second round - but i have a gut feeling that we will be forced to take him with pick 3..... If we don't it could be quite costly $$$$
  19. I am not having a go at you at all Hells Gates - and I sincerley appreciate the information you share..... I agree with what you say... you need to have a certian respect when you come to a new enviroment..... But in saying that my opinion - Bailey was best mates with the playing group - that ended in disaster for Bailey and the club. Now it seems we have gone to the other extreme with Neeld being a hard task master - I prey it dosen't also doesn't end in disaster.... At the end of the day if the players sign on to play for the club they need to live up to the coaches standards - if not I guess you need to find another club. I think the MFC has to be ruthless. I said this in another thread - i reckon it takes good recruiting/trading/development to gain a good list - it takes players and coaches who are willing to do anything to win to turn a good list into a great list...... I prey Neeld is this man
  20. Great post KC - I appreciate the feedback Hells Gates but the coach is not meant to be best mates with the players..... There would have been a lot of legandary coaches not coaching if they were 'mates' with every player........ To the players I say jump on board or [censored] off.....
  21. Footy is a cut throat enviroment - there aren't too many fairy tales out there (i guess again that is what makes Big Jimma such a special story) I agree that players should be treated with respect - but unfortunately on field is as much of a business as the off field funding By the way Powell choose to leave for more money!
  22. Well said Buck_N Its a new era at demonland - if we want to be sucessful as a club we need everyone pulling in the same direction - no passangers Thanks Brett - much appreciated what you did for this club and all the best for the future! This club is going in a new direction - GO DEES
  23. It takes a mixture of strong recruting and strong drafting and development to make a good team.... It takes players and coaches who want to win at all costs to make a good team a great team
  24. I agree we need to work on devlopment and recruiting - (which is why i believe Neeld, Mission and Craig were brough on board) I am not addressing the contract situation of Dom (i ahve no idea) But I do like the idea of recruiting talented youngsters to the club that want to play for a develop something special with this group. Eg: burgoyne and Gunston at the Hawks -The hawks didn't say no when these guys wanted to move - I don't think the MFC should snub an oppotunity In saying that I have no idea if this rumor has any validity or not but I say go get him if he wants to come to the MFC
  25. Wow, he is a handy player when fit..... I am expecting some suprises in who we target this year!!! Looking forward to it
