From what I see and hear about Craig I would be more then happy to see him coach in 2014 http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/under-the-pump-demons-boss-fires-up-20130818-2s4nv.html A lot of people on here want more blood to spill, keep wanting to hold people responsible - I ask you when does the blood letting stop and the rebuilding begin? Don't look purely at the results/scoreboard - a brand new coach (Eade or Chocco) isn't going to magically turn the results around - just like sacking Neeld was never going to change our fortunes in 2013. Although I would love a laugh if someone can argue that Craig hasn't met their expectations Look at the Facts people - Craig has done well with the list that he has at hand - he is developing players and implementing a game plan that if you saw in the 2nd qtr against Freo looked like it offered something for the future. He talks the talk - I'd give him a go in 2014, I reckon this bloke has the respect and the balls to get the job done. I like what I hear and see of Craig...... I don't believe in magic soloutions I believe in hard work and I reckon Craig will deliver
-
Haha Dusty Straight swap for Watts? Haha
-
I'd be happy for Craig to stay in charge until we find the successor WE want Let's not get pressured in to this decision - Poooort who a lot of people now want the MFC to copy didn't appoint Hinkley until very very late in 2012. There is no rush. (I want Clarkson)
-
Now we're talking.... I hope the MFC strongly look at trading Watts - Let me clarify that I rate Watts's ability - I don't think he has it upstairs to get the job done though If Watts stays on at the MFC I will still support him but my opinion of him won't change. I sincerely hope both parties do what's best for each other. I reckon we need another quality in and under player who has good skills so can play in and out - If we could snare a Rockclif, Redden, Adams, Sloane or even Swallow that would be a big win for the MFC IMO Fun times ahead PS - but in saying all that I reckon the MFC over rate Jack - we probably won't get what we want for him
-
Fair points Choko I wouldn't mind snaring one of those two (highlighted) as my 1st prefrance - and I reckon if the Hawks don't win it all Clarkson will get the boot - so there is chance he could be available.... As for Eade, Craig and Choco (apart from the obvious in this thread) in all honesty I wouldn't be disappointed with either of them - I think they all offer something I just hope the club doesn't fold to pressure and [censored] it up again
-
Not disagreeing Choko, my question back to you would be - How will a good tactical coach help us if we don't have all the cattle we need to compete? I think 2014 & 15 will still be heavy focus on development - but that is my opinion
-
Good post C&B The blokes I've spoken too said the boys were completely outmatched and it was nothing to do with NC against the Roos and Cats Also interestingly the players rate themselves as pretty fit - they feel they didn't focus enough on footy skills over the pre season - I guess there is some hope there after all - if we get it right in the 2013 offseason
-
Thanks for the contribution alias275 - I reckon it's a pretty smart position for Craig - we've all seen what happened to the head coach when the wheels have fallen off in the past. Personally I like Craig and would back him in the improve this list - my opinion is this club needs to keep rebuilding and from what I've heard (I don't know his plan, I've heard he has good vision) he could get the job done and the players from what I've heard will follow. Anyway I reckon the MFC should take a good look at his plan - If they don't consider NC I give up on this club
-
I really think that analyising Craig's coaching performance in 2013 is pretty limited and silly. I guess the best way to explain my point is - would Roos, Eade or Choco gotten better performances out of this list this year with the unavailability of players and poor form??? Craig shouldn't be judged solely on his 2013 Win loss record - he offers just as much as the other 3 IMO
-
Agree Deanox The players I've spoken to all rate NC highly and hope he gets the job. I actually don't know what NC will bring if he does get the job - that's up to the Melbourne board to decide if he's the right man. But from what I've heard he covers those boxes Deanox I also personally think it would be negligent of the club not to interview him - but I don't want to start another admin argument
-
He is a gun - no doubt about it. I would go for him in a heart beat - but would he want to come to the Dees? There is talk of the Dees targeting Adams, Sloane and now possibly Rockliff (you'd be silly nto to have a crack) If we can land just one of them it would be a MASSIVE win for us. And yes i'd trade Watts in a flash for any 3. IMO Watts lacks mental toughness required to be anywhere near as good as these 3. 2013 proved that in my mind
-
Thought he deserves his own thread to discuss his potential for the top job in 2014 I would be very disappointed if the MFC didn't look at him. From what I've heard from the players (I don't have regular contact but I do speak with a few of them occasionally) and they all rate NC highly. I still think Roos should be the number 1 target, I also think Choco and Rocket should be interviewed. I don't actually care too much who gets the job but I would be very disappointed if the MFC did it half assed and didn't look at NC at all. For a start ignore the results of 2013 under NC & MN. Injuries, form, lack of confidence etc etc have played a big part in these results. From the outside NC looks like he has a good relationship with the players - I've been told he has a clear vision and style he wishes to play and is known in the industry as being a good developer of youth. He was solid at the Crows even though he did cop a lot of crissum in the end (but all our candidates have) He'd also have a leg up on the other 3 candidates as he already knows the playing group from the inside and what it lacks. Anyway that's all I wanted - there is a lot of talk of Roos, Eade and Choco, I thought NC deserved a bit more of a wrap. I don't know what the club will do (if they appoint a successor as well as Eade, Roos, NC or Choco) but I don't think we'd get it wrong by sticking with NC. All 4 candidates are solid and I personally wouldn't be disappointed with NC

This day will be a miracle itself - when the MFC is united and the rats are goine
-
Some good calls there young dee - knowing the MFC I am sure they haven't even started looking haha The MFC need to clean up it's backyard first appoint Pres etc - then decide the direction the club is taking - then appoint the correct coach. No more half ass'd bull dust.

I like that the Dees are not rushing this decision Craig is an excellent fill in and deserves a real crack at the top job in 2014. He has turned the club around and from what I've heard from the boys at the club (not all just a couple) they like Craig and think he's been good for the group and the club. I've made the point before and I think it's still relavent if the MFC was serious they'd fire everyone in the FD under - But we all know what a [censored] up this club is and the AFL industry is also specialised so we can't throw the baby out with the bath water... So I'm glad Craig has gotten his chance and FWIW I think he has done pretty well. Chocco, Eade and Roos are the obvious choices - It's pretty much Roos job if he wants it, which i suspect he doesn't and who can blame him after the last 6 years of crap on and off field. Just a quick side questions -will this club ever sort its stuff out off field - we are never going to be success as a club until the off field stuff is sorted Anyway - Out of Chocco, Craig and Eade - Craig is the front runner for me - People writing him off for performance are a joke, he inherits a low morale rabble and has done pretty well with NO stars and is bringing through some youth and showing promise LAstly the point of this post and from very Left field - Angry Ant Clarkson I have a feeling if the Hawks don't win it all this year - Clarko will get the boot. And Clarko would be my number 1 pick for this club (Behind Roos who clearly doesn't want it). A lot of water to pass under the bridge before Clarkson is anywhere near available but I hope the MFC doesn't rush and gets this decisions right Craig can clearly handle the running of the club until the right candidate is confirmed
-
All good Biff I was just starting arguments There are a lot of factors why the players can't do the simple stuff - Coaching is a big part but you only have to look at Saturdays game to see the effort is not there
-
Technically it is possible if you're playing on the computer versions But i did giggle at your post

Some good discussion here... My whole point of this thread was once again the MFC has changed direction again and the main reason was player retention Lets not hide from the fact that Sylvia & Watts were at the top of that list Wow didn't they impress on Saturday - makes me warm inside knowning my club is bending over backwards for these players. Can I lastly clarify that I don't think losing Sylvia or Watts is a good idea - and the reason is we have NO one else... The saddest fact is this club has to roll over to their demands otherwise we have to do a full rebuild Lastly get behind Jackson - it might not happen over night but he'll demand success... 2013 for me highlights this is a soft club and [censored] has to change.... A good first step would be not bending over for players who demand a lot and deliver nothing
-
NA - name me our outside mids then let me know who of them deserves to play ahead of Toump (whos only played 10 games?) who is only 18? C'mon mate real world - the MFC are full of soft blokes who don't support the club and play for themselves - Compare Sylvias game to Toumpas for a start - then ask yourself as a young bloke how'd you go in this side?
-
Fair enough i respect your entitled to you opinion in this thread My simple point is there are others who deserve the criticism rather then toump
-
What are you smoking? Can I hace some? Whos the our saviour now? At least we're a chance of getting Tom Boyd now - even if it dosen't identify any of our real problems
-
I agree Biffen Chocco should be pulling the boots on and showing them how to do it Oh wait..... it's up to the players to execute - silly me
-
It is a worry how Toump plays at the moment - there is no confidence in his game at all - it was higlighted in the 2nd qtr??? when he was clear inside 50 and had two options (kick goal or pass to spencer) and fuked it up... It is also a worry that people can write off a 1st year player that has had zero support in the midfield as well. N Jones and Viney is all he had today. Put Toup in a good side and he will flourish. The problem with the MFC is there is no leadership and [censored] poor standards How about judging a bloke like Sylvia whos been in the system 10 years and I saw more of Toup then I did of Sylvia and I'd back Toump had a greater impact then the 10 year hero Sylvia (that should be saying something)
-
How much longer does this club let [censored] players like Sylvia and Watts hold it to ransom? Make threats and control the direction of the club? 2 blokes who struggled to get kicks against the worst side in the AFL - oh wait thats the Dees - the second worst side in the AFL No matter your point of view of where this club as that - surely a couple things are obvious to all This club has zero leadership The playing group is ahead of iteslef - I'm not out to pick on Watts but what has he done to demand he know who the coach is? This isn't a pont agains Watts it's to show this club is weak as [censored] just like its perfomance today Overall the club is going nowhere I support PJ as he'll make decisions that will be ruthless - he will demand success - The MFC fire Neeld because players threatened to leave - those same players can't play for shite (Sylvia & Watts) nd this club continues to fold to these demands haha what a joke I will clarify my point that Neeld wasn't right coach for the club but someone needed to be hard with these players... how much more crap does this club need to put up with before people realise [censored] weak players need to be let go and the club needs to rebuild (Dunn, Sylvia, Jamar, Davey etc etc ect) Anyway enjoy the embarrassment that is this club - keep firing coaches and blaming everyone else - I don't like picking on single players as there are plenty in the [censored] weak group but Lynden Dunn is the poster child of why this club is crap
-
Reminded me of Brock McLean's on the coach interview..... Doesn't matter if it's true or not
