2019 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Lord Travis replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
100% correct. We don’t know the ins and outside of meetings and testing etc, but there have been clearly drafting errors in the past where an obvious talent is overlooked and then blossomed. -
Still annoys me watching Miers run around and tear it up for the cats. Many of us on here were crying out to draft him after he kicked a bag at under age level in finals. He was still available late and was clearly a smart drafting choice. Recruiters often look at players performing well and think they’ve hit their ceiling and dismiss them. If a kids performing well at underage level, then he’s worth a chance IMO. Look at Sydney Stack now performing immediately too! Miers is a small forward who applies pressure and finds the ball. He’d be our leading goal kicker right now in the opening season of his career ?

Marked it. He was brilliant up forward in the last quarter. I wish our tall forwards were able to compete in contested marking situations like him.
-
No way Freo let Langdon go for third rounder. He’s worth a late first/early second round pick. He’ll be top 5 in their BnF two years running now and is only 23.
-
Port are 7th and likely won’t make finals. Hinkley has been in charge for 6 years at Port and hasn’t achieved huge success with what I’d say hasn’t been one of the most talented lists during that period. Chris Fagan has been the best coach this year thus far for mine. Taken what’s been a bottom placed teams for years to 6th on the ladder, making them very competitive and likely to play finals this year. He’s built that club well. Probably too early for this thread. Best see what transpired in the second half of the season.

Add another tick for the old ‘Nathan Jones starts a fight - we win’ stat. Never fails! Wish he started more of them these days!

Margin Call: Should we trade our early pick/s?
Lord Travis replied to Matsuo Basho's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hit the draft as high as possible. We haven’t taken a kid in the first round since 2015. We need to stagger the age profile of our list or risk shooting ourselves in the foot in future. We don’t want a big sudden drop off. We want talent spread to be competitive for longer. We’ve traded in enough talent the past few years with May, Lever, Melksham etc. Time to add the talented youth again and not just speculative late picks. Take a speedy skilled midfielder with our first pick. If they’re good enough, they’ll have an impact early in their career. Look at Duursma, Rozee and Butters at Port. All having an impact now and all look future guns too. They bring energy and flair to the place. -
Petracca had a great game today. Really got involved and threw his weight around. Great to see him switched on for longer periods and staying involved. Hopefully this is the start of his return to damaging form.
-
One of our biggest weaknesses is on field leadership and organization. We got Lever and May not only for their footballing ability, but because they’re leaders and generals. Great to see May organizing troops and playing well again today. He’ll be a huge asset for the backline for the next few years. Love him!

2019 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Lord Travis replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Would be stoked if we land Anderson. Kid looks like such a damaging prospect. Could be a gun forward, mid or half back IMO. I want him as a damaging goal kicking mid. Pick 2 yes please! -
Massive yes from me. He’s pretty much the perfect wingman and exact type of player we are crying out for with his running and kicking skills. Our second round pick will be higher than nearly all others unless we win some pointless games and [censored] it up. I’d throw up our second rounder and hope it’s enough.

Not sure why people are potting Garlett in this thread about our coaching restructure. Garlett facts: - leading club for average goals per game. Will likely win our goal kicking on current form. He’s also the leading goal kicker at the club over the past decade. - leading marks inside 50. Despite being undersized and double teamed, he always works to make an option. - leading tackles inside 50. Defensively he works hardest out of all our forwards to put on pressure and lay tackles. He’s not perfect, but if we’re potting Jeffy, then no other forward on our list is worthy of a game. He currently has the biggest impact out of all our forwards. As for the coaching restructure, its hard to know what to make of it. Rawlings back to MFC can only be good for the club IMO. He’s a proven coach and has had success with us in a variety of roles. Seems the rumblings about Macca have some merit with his change of role. Will we see immediate improvement after the shake up?

https://m.afl.com.au/news/2019-06-18/dogs-resign-pair-of-premiership-pups Close the thread. The dogs have got a good one there. Hopefully Kyle displays similar talent for us!
-
Would gladly take him as he's proving to be a gun midfielder, but he would cost a first round pick or Brayshaw/Petracca. We're not allowed to trade our first round pick this year. Our top priority should be targeting a forward, not another average paced midfielder. I wouldn't trade Brayshaw for him. Like for like and Brayshaws 2018 showed what he can be for us. I would however trade Petracca for him. Dunkleys 2019 is better than anything Trac has produced to date, and Trac is struggling as a forward. We could cash in before his value drops further, but I don't think this trade would ever happen. Unfortunately I don't see Josh Dunkley coming to us. He's one of the Dogs best players and will get a big pay rise come end of the year.

No [censored] chance. We have been pathetic this year. The best thing that could happen is we finish low, get a good draft pick and the club is forced to review what went horribly wrong and take action. Winning pointless matches for the remainder of the season will just paper over the cracks in our clubs foundations.
-
Agreed. He’s a real dopey [censored] and [censored] bloke.
-
Destroyed Grundy today. Have him an absolute bath and we’ll and truly answered the question of who is the best ruckman in the league. As it was last year, Gawn is the best. Keep it up big fella!
-
Shat me too. Gawn is the reigning All Australian ruckman. Gawn absolutely destroyed Grundy today. Gawn is the number 1 ranked player in the league at the moment according to afl website. The media should give him the respect he deserves as the unarguable and official premier ruckman in the league.
-
Viney is a shadow of his former self. Take the captaincy off him and make him become a competent footballer before making him lead.

[censored] Spargo

Tmac’s drop in the form must be the biggest drop off in history. I can’t recall a player going from Coleman medal material to VFL reserves standard overnight.
-
Another embarrassing goalless quarter coming up. Insane how we can go from highest scoring team to lowest scoring team over one offseason. Pathetic that the coaches haven’t sorted it out yet. Can’t win a game if you don’t score!
-
Great to hear he’s signed on again. We’ve got bugger all tall forwards on our list now, so it’s a relief that Sam’s sticking around. I’m a fan and think he’s got the talent and attributes to be a really good tall forward for us. His form late last year showed that. Keep working hard Weid and the rewards will come!
-
Exactly the type of player we need, but not at that price. He’s more potential that output, but I’m confident that in a better environment he’d flourish. He’s a serious talent. But st that price, pass. That’s established superstar money, and established superstar he ain’t.
