  1. Apparently it was mentioned on Fox Footy on TV earlier this evening that Clayton Oliver could well be the early favourite for the 2023 Brownlow Medal. Any thoughts on this? Obviously Premiership Medallions are far more valuable, but it would be a wonderful individual achievement if our Clarrie could win this year's Brownlow Medal for 2023. Anyway, if he continues to have outstanding performances like he did in his 150th game with 25+ possessions and kicks 2 or 3 goals again he will definitely keep gaining votes from the umpires. Especially as there are now 4 field umpires. So I am now assuming the votes are 4, 3, 2, 1 rather than the previous 3, 2, 1? However, I am unsure how the voting system will work this year in games compared to previous years. I guess we shall wait and see? Either way, it would be fantastic to have a new Brownlow Medallist at the Melbourne Football Club. It has been a long time since Shane Woewodin won a Brownlow Medal back in 2000. Fingers crossed it could be our Clarrie in 2023! 🤞 We really are incredibly lucky to have such a champion footballer like Clayton Oliver at the Melbourne Football Club! GO DEMONS!!! 🔴🔵👹
  2. Questions for the podcast. Should we rest Ben Brown against West Coast if he has a sore back? Would it be worthwhile giving a debut to another young Melbourne player this week? Blake Howes (more likely) or even Matthew Jefferson perhaps? Especially due to how decimated West Coast is with injuries. Who do we leave out of the Demons side to allow Kozzie Pickett back in? Lastly, is Clayton Oliver the early favourite for the 2023 Brownlow Medal?
  3. West Coast have had like 4 or 5 injuries in one match. That is an absolute shocker! It may be showing my age a little bit.....but I remember the days when when we would absolutely DREAD playing West Coast in Perth. Funnily enough, it may actually be the other way around this week. How times have changed!!!
  4. Great to see both Matthew Jefferson and Blake Howes have excellent games for the Casey Demons in the VFL. Developing very nicely! If they keep it up with consistent performances they may both earn chances to debut in the Senior AFL side later in the year. Either way, there is no intense pressure on them and they can simply go about just playing footy in the VFL until they are ready for the next step up to AFL.
  5. Doing an absolutely incredible job he is Jason Taylor! Although, credit where credit is due, the entire Melbourne Football Club recruitment team needs to be congratulated.
  6. A great game and a great win! A wonderful debut game from Jacob van Rooyen. Glad we had a win for Clayton Oliver's 150th game! Hopefully Ben Brown's back is ok? Bring on West Coast next week! GO DEMONS!!!! 🔴🔵👹
  7. Fantastic news! Congratulations to Jacob van Rooyen in finally having his debut game! Hopefully the BIG ROOSTER goes in hard at the ball and shows plenty of aggression with his tackling, smothering and shepherding. Jacob definitely reminds me of the two Davids in Neitz and Schwarz. Good luck Jacob! Smash those Swans!!! GO DEMONS!!!! 🔴🔵👹
  8. 100% agreed. Ollie Sestan is genuinely talented. I watched the Casey Demons VFL match online and Ollie reminds me of Leigh Matthews with his build and those strong hips that can break tackles easily. This year I think he just needs to continue working away at VFL level with no pressure or expectations on him and next season we can see if he can also get fit enough to play in the midfield.
  9. An excellent and incredibly informative interview with Selwyn Griffith. Well done and I look forward to many more interviews with various people at the Melbourne Football Club. Thank you guys! It is wonderful the work you do with these podcasts! Fingers crossed that @Demonlandcan possibly please grab the mysterious and eccentric genius Mark "Choco" Williams for an interview some time in the future. Now that would be an AWESOME interview as well! 🤞
  10. I have a soft spot for Norwood too. Their SANFL Premiership in 1997 over the Port Adelaide Magpies was a bright spark in a very gloomy year for Melbourne who received the ignominious 'Wooden Spoon'. However, the likelihood of the 'Redlegs' entering into the AFL is very low. Especially as all the SANFL clubs (including Norwood) teamed up to form the Adelaide Crows to prevent Port Adelaide entering the AFL in 1991. In my opinion, I think the more likely 20th AFL team would be Darwin (Crocodiles?) or the Canberra (Cobras?). Although, we are probably a long way off that happening. It is worth mentioning that Canberra, and the ACT in general, actually has a deep and rich history of Australian Rules Football as can be read about via this link here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_rules_football_in_the_Australian_Capital_Territory
  11. I would like to know more about Selwyn Griffith as well. Where is he from originally? I know he worked previously with the Brisbane Lions I think? Did he play Aussie Rules Football growing up? Who did he barrack for as a kid? What have been the main differences he has noticed between the Melbourne Demons and his time previously at the Brisbane Lions?
  12. I still don't believe we actually "tanked" in 2008 and 2009. We were just absolutely terrible and uncompetitive. We really went through some dark times from 2007 until 2017 (and 2019). Leaving games at 3 Quarter Time became a regular occurrence for us as Melbourne supporters. I remember how terrible 1997 was. Especially in the shadow of the failed merger attempt with Hawthorn in 1996. I remember the only positive was that at the end of the year we recruited Jeff White (almost snatched Peter Matera) and we got the number 1# draft pick in Travis Johnstone. But the 1970s and early 1980s are either before my time or when I was far too young to remember. I am assuming that from 1965 until 1986 it was just as horrible and bleak? The only shining light being the mercurial and sublime Robbie Flower in the 1970s and 1980s. Back in those days then you didn't even have a draft with top talent to choose from at the end of the year. It was all structured around a flawed zoning system. So therefore finishing on the bottom of the ladder with the 'Wooden Spoon' was the only prize you got besides being laughed at by opposition supporters. Ending our 57 year Premiership drought in 2021 was glorious though and it has definitely healed those deep psychological scars. Nevertheless, we should never forget those tough times and make sure we don't have to endure something so horrific ever again.
  13. An excellent podcast as always! Thank you for answering my questions @Demonland. Hopefully the match committee gives in to the "pressure" from all of us here at Demonland and selects Jacob van Rooyen in the Melbourne side against Sydney. Time to unleash the Rooster! GO DEMONS!!! 🔴🔵👹
  14. Please come up with some new material.
  15. Absolutely! A big THANK YOU to Jason Taylor our National Recruiting Officer. He really is a brilliant recruiter. Clayton Oliver has been a star since his debut game for the Demons! Here is a great video clip of his debut game in Round 1 back in 2016 against GWS to bring back some fond memories. And once again, well done on 150 games Clarrie! Let's hope you play at least 200 more (so over 350 AFL games) for the Demons! 🔴🔵👹
  16. Just glad big Maxy Gawn will be alright in a few weeks time. He is the heart and soul of the Melbourne Football Club and I hope Jack Viney steps up to the plate as Captain. Additionally, let's hope Jacob van Rooyen gets his chance to debut for the Demons against the Swans.
  17. Just thought this deserved a separate thread on Demonland. As mentioned by @WalkingCivilWarin another thread, it will be Clayton Oliver's 150th game for the Melbourne Football Club. Clayton Oliver, only one third of the way through his career, at 25 years of age has to be one of the greatest Demons players in the modern era. You gotta love Clarrie. I hope he wins more Premierships for the Demons and also grabs that elusive Brownlow Medal one day. Clayton Oliver is a Champion for the Melbourne Football Club. I hope he goes on to play at least 350 or even 400 games for the Demons. I encourage as many Melbourne supporters as possible to attend the match against the Swans on Sunday at the MCG to say a massive THANK YOU to Clarrie in his 150th game for the Demons! His "bang, bang bang!" goal late in the 3rd Quarter of the 2021 AFL Grand Final will never be forgotten! Fingers crossed Clayton Oliver plays, many, many more magnificent games for the Melbourne Football Club! Congratulations on 150 games for the Demons Clarrie! 🔴🔵👹
  18. The big issue is the entire system is flawed and needs to be overhauled. It needs to be a much fairer system. The fact that that the Western Bulldogs got their NGA product with the number #1 pick in Jamarra Ugle-Hagan in the 2020 AFL Draft and we could not even bid on Mac Andrew who went to Gold Coast with the number #5 pick in the 2021 AFL Draft was grossly unfair. Personally, I think the Melbourne Football Club should of made a bigger stink about this matter, but it may have been seen as "over the top" due to the fact we were 2021 AFL Premiers at the time. But still, an official complaint to the AFL should of been made. Unfortunately, we sadly "rolled over" and should have fought the AFL more on the unfair changing of the rules. Especially when teams like Sydney, GWS and Gold Coast have a distinct advantage with their own Interstate Academies. If this serious problem is not resolved it makes the NGA Academies almost pointless for Victorian AFL Clubs, in particular, to bother to financially support. Clubs want to see reward for effort and if you don't allow this then the whole idea of having an NGA Academy is a waste of time.
  19. Hawthorn smashed by 81 points today up against Sydney. If we can have that happen ×1000 times over 57 years they will know what we as Melbourne supporters have endured.
  20. Here are my questions for the Demonland podcasters. Is it time to finally debut Jacob van Rooyen? Who do we play on Tom Papley? Judd McVee? Unless we bring back Michael Hibberd? Who played an excellent game for the Casey Demons in the VFL. After such a poor performance in the midfield do we bring in James Jordon or even Luke Dunstan? Lastly, what do we need to do to actually beat the Swans?
  21. It will definitely be interesting if we play Judd McVee on Tom Papley. Hope the Demons come out "breathing fire" against the Swans for two reasons. Firstly, to respond to the disappointing loss to the Lions. Secondly, as a bit of "pay back" for losing to the Swans in the finals last season.
  22. Hahahahahaha! Kangaroos by 1 point! Alistair Clarkson doing a pretty good job as coach so far. Let's hope Fremantle finish in the bottom 4 of the ladder so we can get that top draft pick we should have received for Luke Jackson. Fair is fair.
  23. Good question. I didn't see Daniel "Disco" Turner out there today? Was pleased with the performances of many of our players. Thought Matthew Jefferson did alright with a few good marks. Just gotta learn to kick straight.
  24. Phew! What a sigh of relief! However, 4 to 6 weeks is still a fair chunk of footy to miss for Max Gawn. Note to Jack Viney, from now on, please accidentally injure opposition players and not your teammates!
  25. Not a fan of this kind of "journalism". Let's wait until we hear from the medical experts and get all the facts on Max Gawn's knee scan first.
